If you need CPU power for video editing or as such, it's worth the extra $103 for this one op posted.
Bought this 3 weeks ago for $1087 not happy Jan. It's a good laptop though I think for the price
I'm busy organizing for family coming over today (just the in-laws) but am in the market for something like this. I hadn't considered Acer and is certainly prefer not to purchase from HN.
Looking through quickly the HN website there "seems" to be some decent sized discounts being applied to this laptop range.
Can anyone with some knowledge in this area pass judgement on if any of these discounts appear "genuine" or of they are just typical HN pricing system that "looks" like a discount?
The laptops with rtx3050 and rtx3060 are good value. Anything higher or lower than that seems bad
These 2 models in particular are good value:https://www.harveynorman.com.au/acer-nitro-5-15-6-inch-i5-11…
https://www.harveynorman.com.au/acer-nitro-5-15-6-inch-i5-11…Bearing in mind that they are budget laptops and aren't known for their high quality. Extended warranty might not be a bad idea if the price seems reasonable (although I've not yet dealt with HN for extended warranty, unsure how good their provider is)
I've dealt with them for normal warranty for a Sony amplifier that developed a loud transformer hum after 2 months. The local HN I'd bought it from offered me the address of the local Sony repairer.
After establishing that they weren't interested in paying my mileage to take it down there, I was able to successfully convince them that it wasn't worth their time and money pissing me about.
"Extended warranties" aren't usually worth the time it takes to sign them.
@terrys: Agree to disagree about extended warranty, my several year stint working with goodguys saw pretty good responsiveness when it came to dealing with these. Although, this was many years ago.
Personally I wouldn't buy acer laptops without it, return rate was way too high for my liking.
@misunderstood98: Australia Consumer Law should cover you anyway so extended warranties are useless.
@misunderstood98: The Goodguys, although a phoenix [ in SA at least] are a different kettle of fish to Hardly Normal tho! I usually check stuff out in the HN - then pop 40 meters along the block and chat to the local GGs to purchase. The Goodguys don't bump their prices by ~ 20% a week before a 10% off sale as some nearby do.
In 2017 the ACCC ordered the extended warranty provider Yoogalu (owned by Harvey Norman) to update their brochures to include remedies available under the ACL and provide retail staff with compliance training.
The ACCC has been concerned with the conduct of some retailers overstating the benefits of buying an extended warranty, when consumers have the free protection of consumer guarantees under the Australian Consumer Law (ACL).
Is anybody really surprised?
Aus Consumer law is pretty toothless. All the conditions are vague.
Theres no incentive for the retailer not to fight you and drag the whole process out as long as possible in the hope you’ll just give up and pay for the repair.Yes you might get it fixed/replaced by the retailer… eventually. Just hope it’s an item that you don’t actually need to use for a few weeks/months.
I suspect half the people that say extended warranty is useless due to “ consumer law” have never actually had to to try and get those laws enforced.
I think the ACCC knows what it's talking about.
I must be in the other half. Spitting the dummy never helps, but a clear concise statement of what you want, why you want it, and and assurance that you are determined to get it can work wonders.
I don't need to purchase in any particular store. The store, OTOH, does want the particular currency I have decided is available for any purchase.
Hi, I have been starting to look at entry level gaming laptops. Play a lot of Dota 2 and would like something that could mostly max that out and handle some more recent games when the itch strikes.
Was thinking upto $1,500 and had been told from a few mates that their Metabox laptops have been great for quite a few years.
Comparing specs with the Alpha S range (https://www.metabox.com.au/store/Alpha-S-Range/Buy) 3050 11800H build is $1,499 but doesn't include Windows.
Is the Ram easily expandable?
Outside of the apparent screen quality and general build, is there a better value for money laptop at the 1K range for my gaming requirements?
Secondly, for gaming performance is the 10300H OR 11400H paired with the 3060 better than the 11800H with the 3050? (Both Nitro options on HN)
Yes for sure
11400H/8GB/512GB SSD/RTX3050
For $893 seems better value
