Bought one in the last deal - really enjoying it. Gets a bit pricey after you spend another $150 on switches and keycaps, but an incredibly satisfying typing experience.

    • +2

Same. Got the white ice version during last deal. Combined with your favourite switches and keycaps and coiled cables. U r an enthusiast now

Is there any reason you'd buy this over whatever normal keyboard comes with the switches you like?

      • +1

        Extra customization pretty much.

      • +1

Super heavy duty build, can fix the keyboard easily if one switch breaks, has a unique-ish layout that you won't find in a normal keyboard (75% exploded), working with QMK

    • +5

haha $150 is still considered budget in the custom mech community

The glorious panda switches are the best tactile by far and I've tried heaps. Has the zealios purples but they were too tactile despite the same 67g springs which made it really tiring to type on

  • I too have Bought this keyboard from the last deal and have settled on Gateron Browns lubed + Glorious Aura v2 Switches and I love the board although it does get quite pricey real quick especially when you want to start testing out a variety of different switches.

I have this, and I can't recommend this keyboard. it is "gasket mount" but doesn't flex. epic fail. this performs like a case mounted keyboard. if you never had a real gasket mounted keyboard that flexes, then you would probably think this is amazing. Once you get the typing experience from a real gasket mounted keyboard that flexes, you will know this is absolutely awful. this keyboard is always on sale, no one wants it.

the only thing this has going for itself is that it has a knob and side firing led. typing experience is absolutely awful.

    • That sounds like it'll be more like a dome cap, where it's a bit mushy than a clean "click"? Is there a reason you prefer the softer/more flexible mounting? (over say a linear switch or dome)

I don't think I've ever used a mechanical that hasn't been very firm.

I agree with this comment but still would recommend it as the overall build quality and the software is easy to use. Very user friendly especially for the first time user who wants to play around a little. I mod mine slightly by removing some of the screws to allow it to flex a bit more during typing.

You haven't mentioned any negs other than flex. If you like typing on a trampoline, then look elsewhere. Other than that, at this price point, it's a well built entry keyboard. Flex is purely subjective.

      • -7

lmao, trampoline. i don't think you have any good boards. fyi i have a few keyboards including jelly and mr suit keyboard. and those keyboards not only are gasket mounted, but also has flex cuts on the pcb. you must think these keyboards have jet propulsion, lol.

a gasket mount should flex. i was expecting this to be a budget jelly since it is a "gasket mount."

that is like you buying a ferrari expecting to go 200km/h, but it can only do 1km/h. i think you would be very upset.
just like i was when i purchased this "gasket mount" keyboard and expecting flex. no one buys a gasket mount keyboard and wishes that it is stiff as hell, lol.

I think I remember a sentence that fits.

Thank you for gatekeeping what I enjoy. Thank you for telling me that I should not be enjoying something that I am enjoying.

          • -3

@iridiumstem: you can enjoy dog food if that is all you have and know. i'm trying to open your eyes and introduce you to wagyu steak. it's your money, buy whatever you like. people in the keyboard hobby like me own more then 1 keyboard. i am sharing my experience with you. do with it as you like, but i am talking from personal experience from owning this and other "gasket mount" keyboards, and what "gasket mount" keyboards should do and feel like. its like you buying a car, but have to push it. lol

        • You're still on about flex. Which part didn't you understand? I absolutely hate flex on keyboards. Like I said, it's subjective. So go bounce on that Jelly trampoline if that's going to make you feel better about overpaying for a keyboard.

          • -7

@NixMo1: overpaying? lol. i got my jelly for like $400 and its selling for over $1000 now a days.

i see that i am on a different level and no of you understands me. but hoping one day you can experience and afford luxury items. no flex keyboards can be found for free when you buy a keyboard, lol.

your comparison is you driving the cheapest toyota, and me driving the most expensive lexus. both do the same thing and both made by toyota, so you prefer that base model because because it fits your need and you don't know anything else.
or even you drinking instant coffee, while i drink freshly roasted on the day whole beans and use my bellezza espresso machine. coffee is coffee right? subjective right?

            • @Hugh G Rection: Lol don't flatter yourself because you own an overpriced Jelly!

I honestly believe you don't understand the meaning of subjective. Coffee is subjective. It comes down to taste which is 100% subjective. Just because something is perceived as being better quality doesn't mean someone will like the taste. The build quality of your coffee machine compared to another of similar price isn't.

I don't like flex, you do. There is no right or wrong. It's personal preference.
So if you went on to say an item has issues, defects, overall build quality compared to a similarly priced item, then go ahead.

            • @Hugh G Rection: I don't come to OzBargain for cringe but this is gold

              • -2

@Diji: lol, you are welcome. little late to the party, but better late then never. funny thing is, this garbage is still on sale. they can't get rid of them, no one wants them. this was a "limited edition boxing day sale," but still on sale. lol

                • @Hugh G Rection: Only plebs use traditional staggered boards anyway. Ascend to patrician ortho split status

One downside is that the stabs are overlubed and sticky and mushy but can be fixed by opening it up and removing some of those extra lube

    • -4

not only that, replacing the stabs with some durock or everglides are an absolute pain in the butt.

  • I ordered this (in White Ice) a couple weeks ago. Glorious has apparently fixed the overlubbed stabs + 3rd party stab compatibility in a V2 revision, but for what it's worth, PCCG are still clearly holding onto V1 inventory as the stabs on my model were unusably sticky out of the box. Easy enough to fix though.

    • I got one from the last deal and I didn't think the stabs were that bad, a little bit scratchy if anything, but they bounced back up okay. I've got some Durock V2 stabs though, so I guess I'll find out next week whether they fit or not without a bit of filing… :D

      • Mine were silly bad, they literally took a couple seconds to pop back up.

Good luck with the Durock! I'm thinking of ordering the C3 stabs as they apparently have no issues with the GMMK Pro.

        • Yeah, the quick look I had for C3s at the time only returned OOS for local places, so I gambled with the Durocks seeing as how the stabs were okay. Although it seems like the C3s are a good upgrade as well.
