Sorry if this is a dumb question, so I just pour tap water in this and it basically boils my water like a kettle in 8 seconds?

    • +2

Think of a coffee pod machine that does not brew cofffee.

    • Yeah, very quick, so good value there, but if there was some way to plumb it in, that’d be amazing value.

      • +1

You could get a small plastic drink safe hose, and an adapter that screws onto your tap with a small diverter that allows you to direct water down the hose and then stick it in to a hole you drill in the top of the container. Not seamless but functional

  • Get hot water in just 8 seconds - no pre-heating needed!

Is it 8 seconds with a full tank?

    • It is not a kettle. It dispenses hot water.

      • whats the difference?

        • +1

Think of a coffee pod machine that does not brew cofffee, but only dispenses hot water.

          • +2

@Neoika: Coffee pod machines doesn't boil water but. It doesn't Goto 100c

        • +3

From what I understand, it only heats the water as it is releasing it, I.e it boils 1 cup gradually over 8 secs. A kettle has to boil the whole volume in the tank before it is ready.

          • +1

            @Batz: I don’t think that’s it.

The breville coffee machines have a similar function, it takes 8 seconds to heat the element, then trickles hot water out.

The breville would take about 40-60 seconds to get a cup and i don’t think the breville makes it 100 deg

So based on that, which seems similar to this, you don’t get a whole cup in 8 seconds

  • Thanks for the slow cooker link, got one!

Thanks been meaning to try one of these things to hear less boiling kettles noises. Also picked up the $3.60 hair dryer but I'm bald

I have bought this previously for about $40-50. After about 1 year they will start to slowly dispense water at a slower rate until it died. Then I bought the kmart version https://www.kmart.com.au/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/SearchDis…

Now that is doing the same thing. So I bought this again for when the Kmart one will die too.
They are great for cups of tea.

    • You might have hard water. Should run a descaler through it a few times a year

      • -1

Water wouldn't be hard in Sydney would it?

      • I have tried descaling it did not help.

        • Bad internals then. I've been using th westinghouse ones. Actually had the new model arrive today and it looks and works well for $150 its a good price

    • We have the kmart one at work, main issue is the temps are all -20c less then it should be.
65c is Luke warm, 98c you can put your fingers and not be burnt

      • You mean to say when set to 98C its more like 98C-20C= 78C? @78C you can still burn your hands!!!

  • does anyone know when the catch boxing day sales end?

  • Wondering if safe for boiling water for infant formula.
Is it definitely boiling the water to 100 degrees

    • +1

Check out the westinghouse ones. They have a baby formula function

      • +1

I have a Westinghouse one, and technically the baby formula function is for reheating bottles and not for making formula itself.
"Milk Button: The milk button is for warming milk bottles only and will heat the water to a temperature of approximately 40 degrees celcius. Do not dispense water directly into a baby bottle and always ensure temperature is tested prior to offering to an infant/toddler."
In saying that, I bought it for making formula…
        - The machine only heats the water to 40 degrees on this function so it does not make the water safe for baby; I fill the tank with boiled and cooled water (from a kettle).
        - I have checked the temperature and it really is "approximately" 40 degrees, it is sometimes less and sometimes more so it is vital to check the temperature is right before making the formula.

The machine also has 45 degrees, 55, 65, 75, 85 and 100 too so it's more flexible for making tea at lower temperatures too but it is a lot pricier than one that only dispenses hot water.

I got mine and have been using it for a week, the water is very hot, hotter than I usually boil my water (which is after it whistles) and also hotter than nay work zip/Billy tap I have used. I would say it would definitely enough to sterilise something

  • Thanks OP. I was looking for a new kettle, but this is a better option.

  • Just got it setup, press the "one cup" and "continue" buttons. Nothing happen. Led works as expected. Anyone had similar experiences? Thanks

    • Nothing happen.

I filled up with water and it dispensed hot water as normal.

      • Mine is a dud. Thanks for reply

  • +1

I got this and it's working OK, esp for the price. The 1 cup button puts out a tea cup and I usually have a mug, which is typically 2 presses for me. Does anyone know if there's a way to adjust the amount it puts out at a single press? There's a continuous button but because it takes a while to fill a mug the chance of getting distracted is quite high

Aside from that the unit is decent, water is very hot, potentially hotter than necessary for a cup of tea. Also the tank is only 1.8L or so, so I feel like I have to refill it quite often. I am thinking of setting up a small hose that I can divert water from my tap to it to save me having to remove it and refill it

    • thinking of setting up a small hose

Yes, it is a good idea but it cancels warranty for sure. However, almost no one cares about warranty for a $20- thing.

      • -1

Was only going to drill a small hole on the top and feed a hose in so I can have water straight in there when I turn the tap on, wasn't expecting it to hold water pressure full time, don't know why that would void the warranty as I am not even opening it up

  • Anyone know if you open one of these up of there an adjuster for how much it will let out in 1 cup mode?
