Transfer Files/Data from Win 7 32 Bit to Win 10 64bit

hi,
could some one assist in providing OS updating advice please?

my dads pc is a 7th gen i5 .with 16gb ram
current OS is win 7 32 bit

yeah 16gb installed AND running 32bit. the dude who set up the PC should be shot.

anywho.

it has all my dads video editing programs, interweb bookmarks, photos, files, etc.

OS is on a 256gb SSD.
there are some 2 Tb HDD installed for backing up files.

I want to install win 10 64 bit. to: (a) take advantage of 16gb ram, (b) bring it in to the "modern" age, (c) win 7 security updates stopped years ago, (d) because.

so, my question is - how do I easily "transfer" the desktop/files/ current programs, (i.e. everything) to a win 10 64 environment?

get another SSD and install win 10 64bit on it and "magic -transfer" everything over? what is the simpliest way?

is it as simple as "upgrade win 10 64bit" via install USB and keep files, settings and applications? -I'm worried that files might get lost.

thank you.

PS - I've googled a lot of information and there is a lot of contradictory information and double talk.

Move all the files you want to save to the 2TB HDD.

Make sure you note down the applications your dad use and still have licensing details for anything paid.

Clean install win10 64bit on the SSD.

There is no simple way of upgrading your 32-bit window to 64-bit windows without a clean install.

A clean install will not erase your data, but you will need to reinstall the same programs.

Bookmark can be preserved by syncing to his Google account or something.

    Not an option.

? If you find two links which are telling you contradicting information, post them here.

Often computers/laptops will come with 2 drives, if not just create a separate new partition on the same Disk 0 (So that there's 2 drives OS installed drive, and another data storage drive). Then just move your data from to the other newly created drive, whenever you do OS change the data on this drive shall not be impacted unless you yourself choose to install other OS on this drive (its not easy to mess up, you'll know how many GB is in what drive) - This is assuming you have enough space on disk 0 to begin with (very likely the case if you got HDD on laptop/computer)

Otherwise if the above option sounds too hard, then buy a portable storage disk and move all data there (like on a portable USB/SSD/HDD/MicroSD etc.)
