Is this watch worth it at this price? Just going to be using it for everyday exercise, sleep tracking and as a normal watch.

Interested in what owners of this watch have to say.

    • +2

I have a galaxy watch 3 which is just this with a physical bezel. for what you need it for, I think it's more than sufficient. it'll also have blood pressure and egg measurement and constant heart monitoring with the new update in Nov. battery life may be a little on the short side with the 40mm variant so you may have to be careful of that. otherwise I 199 is a great price

      • +16

I thought egg measurement refers to menstrual cycle monitoring but realised you probably meant ecg

        • +4

yep, stupid autocorrect, but actually it does also have menstrual monitoring although I have no use for it

      • +1

how dafuq does a watch measure your blood pressure?

    • +1

I've got the galaxy watch active 1 and does the job for me. I use it mostly for exercise, steps, find my phone and changing music. $199 is a pretty good price, I'd recommend it!

    • +3

I have this exact one, and I'd say YES.
Answering calls while at the Gym without needing to go back to my bag (assuming BT range) is wonderful, so is replying to txts.
Heartrate is close enough, and the EKG and Blood Pressure monitoring is neat too.

I also use the Translate app quite often when buying things from international shops where lanuguage becomes a barrier.
3 days battery life, assuming no GPS, and no 'always on' heartrate (only on for workouts).

I'd say it's good at this price.

    • Cheers everyone for the helpful insight! Planning to have a look at my local JB later.

Also, it sounds like I wouldn't massively benefit from spending extra money for the Watch 4.

  • Harvey Norman selling for $25 more but with option to ship Samsung Galaxy Watch Active2 40mm Aluminum Bluetooth - Rose Gold/Violet

    • So? Jb offers shipping too

      • Probably should of mentioned, JBHIFI ones shows not available for shipping (Gold/Violet one atleast) for me.

  • Description mentions phoneless pay, but doesn't mention LTE anywhere else? Is it LTE for $200?

    • Try searching JB. The Active2 LTE models are $400-800. You can get the new model LTE for less.

    • +2

Don't think it comes with LTE (Bluetooth only), but your phone doesn't need a data connection for Apple/Google Pay so I imagine it's the same principle with the watch

      • Have this watch and use Samsung Pay from my watch. Can confirm you do not need you phone anywhere near you. As you can load music on the watch and connect your wireless headphones directly to the watch, I often run without my phone and have never had an issue making payments.

    • mine is a Bluetooth version and comes with Samsung pay. I'm sure you can pay with your phone in your pocket but not sure if it'll pay without your phone. although I have paid with google pay when there is no reception so maybe it also works.

      • Is Samsung pay basically the same as Google Pay? You just have to register the cards?

I Don't use Samsung but like the pay option.

        • yep, but it depends on the card supporting it. for example my Macquarie card only supports Google pay but my coles mastercard only supports samsung pay

@Spec: Ahh of course the banks wouldn't make it easy by following some kind of standard. Then again, neither do these tech companies.

For people with big wrists get a bigger strap. Had to replace mine with one from Amazon (about $10). It's magnetic as well which I prefer.

    SOLD! Thanks OP!

This is much better than the new 4 series by far…

    • Rather ignorant here. I thought the 4 series is better? Why is this much better?

      • I personally prefer the Samsung watchOS more than the Google WearOS. I had this watch and loved it.

      • The Tizen OS Samsung watches (i.e pre galaxy watch 4) have longer battery life, the downside is they have less app support than wear OS (GW4 onwards) and the OS is basically redundant now as Samsung appear to have moved onto wear OS going forward, so don't expect much software support except for the basics after the next 12 months or so.

Still a decent deal, though the 40mm galaxy watch 4 has been as cheap as $275ish already, so only a $75 saving off the latest model really.

      • As someone said, the battery life is much more important to me and this beats the GW4 by at least 20 hours easily. For what I need it to do, the Tizen variant does everything well. Mainly:

        • Receive and answer calls with the watch
        • Find my phone function
        • View text messages/emails/hangouts and other notifications
        • Torch function
        • Hundreds of free watch faces

I already have the 46mm Classic version and it has never let me down. In a full day with active screen always on, my average is a battery with 75% left. My partner wants the same functionality, so for $199 this was an absolute steal.

This basically sums it up for me: https://www.tomsguide.com/face-off/samsung-galaxy-watch-4-vs…

  • Heard they enabled BP on the Australian model recently

    • Correct, and EKG

      • Do you know if it can measure BP if you have an Iphone?

        • Sorry never been quite well off enough to afford an Apple product.
I don't see why not though; its a watch feature, why should the phone matter?

          • +1

@MasterScythe: They can't, Samsung is pulling an apple and restricting functions to Samsung phones

        • Not out of the box but there's workarounds to get it working

Bought wifey the same galaxy active 2 from Amazon for the same price. She is loving the watch so far. Great price this is.

  • is 40mm the bigger size or smaller? a couple of years ago I was in the market for the smaller size but it was more expensive than the bigger because it was LTE only. It didn't come in a BT model. The bigger model had BT or LTE, with BT being cheaper.

    • 40mm is the smaller one

  • really great watch, been using mine for 2 yrs+ and still works amazing.

  • Can this answer calls? Can't find any specific mention of this feature

    • +1

Yes, if you're within Bluetooth range of your phone.

      • Thanks for your reply. Bought for this feature and loving it.

  • Looking to purchase this for my wife but will it work with an iPhone? Recently purchased Galaxy 4 but had to return as it doesn’t support iPhones.

This watch is 2 years old.

  • How does it compare to Fossil Gen 6? I already got Fossil Gen 5, Wonder should I upgrade to Fossil Gen 6 or this.

  • Rose gold sold out :(

  • +1

went in at 9am and was sold out everywhere in wa the rose/gold. but harvey norman had plenty of stock and got them to price match after a bit of back and forward as the jb hifi site took the rose gold offline. But said well would you price match the black as its the exact same thing lol

  • +1

    Thanks OP, got one.

Was skeptical about whether I needed a smart watch but at this price I was willing to give it a go, and glad I did. Been using this thing for the last two days and it's been awesome. Even downloaded and offline maps app called Here WeGo, this watch now does everything I need.

  • Ordered one
