  • Nothing about how accurate it is. Seems like another way to piss money up the wall

    • +2

It lists this one on the TGA website that this is "Very high sensitivity - clinical sensitivity greater than 95% PPA"

      • -7

Search shows Product name Severe acute respiratory syndrome-associated coronavirus IVDs
        Active ingredients
        Sponsor name Cole Workwear PL
ARTG entry for Medical Device Included - IVD Class 3

        Pdf link broken

No idea how you know it's 95% accurate

        • +9

Use the second link in the description and it lists all the TGA approved rapid antigen self-tests that are approved in Australia and their categorised accuracies as below.

Acceptable sensitivity - clinical sensitivity greater than 80% PPA
High sensitivity - clinical sensitivity greater than 90% PPA
Very high sensitivity - clinical sensitivity greater than 95% PPA

Even on Kogan's "Specifications" section is says it's 95.65% sensitive - whatever that means

I don't know how you're not seeing it..

    • +3

if you need a test for work, would have thought work would supply so that they can check that you aren’t just using the one test and show it at work over and over as negative …… the certificate on the phone app doesn’t even check if you have booster.

if you don’t need it for work, and are feeling ok why would you bother unless you have kids under 5 , i think the govt has opened pandora’s box and and it will just spread based on the numbers …. and with no PCR tests the govt doesn’t have to worry about stats / numbers in the media anymore, RAT positive stats aren’t centrally recorded

if they wanted people to test it would be free … for some people a box of tests is difference between your kids eating or going hungry …..

and close contact SMS …. nobody follows up to see if you have gone for a test ….. just an automated mass send out ……

      • I agree with what you've said but the situation is a bit different in reality.

Low income healthcare card holders are eligible for free test kits subsidised 50/50 by federal and state gov. Hopefully that's sorted in days, not weeks.

Bulk deals like this are probably most valuable for employers. A neighbour owns a bar and has just had to shut down until staff get out of isolation. If he wasn't an online luddite this post could keep him trading. You're right the RAT process can be totally gamed unless employers issue them.

In my view, RAT gives responsibility back to the population rather than gov enforcement. I far prefer that to gov control. I just hope people own that responsibility by taking actions to reduce transmissions.

Even my toddler understands how to wash hands, cover coughs, wear a mask, and that we test after contact risks (several).

I see no excuse for grown-ups to put others at risk now it's not monitored. Just get it done the best we can

    • It is another way to piss money up the wall. lol.
People don't understand what PPA really means and confuses "Accuracy" with "Detection Rate".

Also RAT's are most accurate when you are symptomatic.

      • Feel free to line up for 4h instead, that's the other option. Apparently there are a couple of drive in testing that may be 40 mins but most have long waits too.

Depends what your time is worth. At least they are clamping down on price gouging but personally not worth more than a 10er each (if you can find stock)

  • +5

Kogan!! near 3 weeks before sends and cost=wow! I would say SEMI-USELESS GOUGE but I STRESS I have no medical knowledge,

  • +1

Ah yes, can I also purchase hand sanitiser for $50/100mL?

  • +1

There is going to be millions coming into the system before this ships

  • +6

(profanity) Kogan price gouging these to make profit off of death.

    • Yes, Kogan should start in the coffin and funeral business

Us shareholders thank him for being a go-getter, being super active and having a crack at everything

      A Elsternwick lad!

      • +1

Yes, Kogan should start in the coffin and funeral business

Costco sell coffins. I don't hear whinging about them?

        • Haha, I thought they stopped selling Coffins, i don't see them instore anymore, and i think it was replaced by a Spa or Solar Retailer booth….

    • +4

It works out to be $12.5 each. I'm no fan of Kogan but this is the cheapest I've seen lately

      • +1

Any more than $10/test is a piss take..
The main problem is finding stock anywhere

  • +9

Enter code PENSIONER for a $249 discount.

    • Sadly they wont be able to claim that code on this item. Haha.
Max 10 RATs over 3 months and max 5 per month.

So technically speaking only $62.25 discount. :)

  • +2

Kogan is a joke. Dont order from there.

    • +2

Agree, had enough with their customer service team.

    • How can I order anything from Kogan when their places are an absolute rip off. Been spamming me for a laptop on Sale I can get for $899 [usual price $1199], yet their price for the exact same product, $1300. GTFO

      • Been spamming me for a laptop on Sale

        Know what things are worth.

Unsubscribe or filter emails to junk.

  • Is this within 10% of the wholesale price as Saint Scotty now requires? (or is that requirement "voluntary"?)

  • +6

Given their history of predatory price gouging, zero customer service, and questionable supply practices, I declare this not a deal!

  • Has OZB turned to "Post any RAT" regardless of deal or not?

  • Not a deal. Can we PLEASE ban these price gouging RAT posts? There are other places, away from OzBargain, where people can find stock drop information. I hate that we're sending clicks to these people.

    • I take it they're RAT's in every sense ?? Kogan that is.

      • +2

Rats are quite friendly and social animals that feel compassion for others. These guys are more like river mud. Thick, toxic and full of shit.

    • I'm impressed with www.findarat.com.au as a quick hack a Melbourne developer made, but it's been totally inaccurate for every stock listing I've chased in QLD.

OzBargain posts for test kits are a bit like GPU posts. We know it's a ripoff, but for those who need it there's value. RAT posts could save lives, and at minimum will reduce spreading and unnecessary isolations, so I'd like them to keep coming until the shortage is over.

  • At work and can't find the link but pretty sure there were very high sensitivity ones posted for 10 a pop?

  • -4

LOL, mods hard at work deleting negative votes. Remember, posts count, who cares if they're bargains or not. ENGAGEMENT.

  • Disgusting.

  • Daylight robbery price! 👎

    • +1

Maybe, but if the alternative is no test, no work, no income them the cost is much higher.

  • +1

gougers on a health device in a pandemic

lower than a footprint Kogan, well done

    • I reckon give it a month and there will be an oversupply. They're probably profiting now to cover future losses

  • Omg why do anyone need to buy these? Can’t you go to a testing centre and get tested for free? I mean even if you test positive don’t you have to do a pcr test to confirm?

    • +2

Well, your complete obliviousness to the situation on the ground is impressive given the coverage it has received.

      • What happened? Sorry I have never been to a test centre nor have I taken a test or a swab, can’t you get it done at a test centre? Do you have to wait for hours or something?whats the rush to buy these? Reminds me of hand sanitizer craze.

        • +1

Read the news. All of the above.

Hand sanitizer wasnt a craze, there was a real fear that Covid may be transferred via fomites and people bought it all out as we didnt have that much supplies

    • +1

Most PCR stations in NSW will only test if you already have a positive RAT. This is why thousands of symptomatic people have been turned away and made to go driving around chemist to chemist looking for RATS and infecting unsuspecting customers for the last few days.

      • QLD only PCR test with symptoms, and can now give out RAT tests free to reduce queues. Impossible to find RAT retail stock in Gold Coast.

Getting a QLD PCR triggers a 72h iso on record, and staff told me I had to isolate for 7-days even though I didn't quality as a close contact under new rules.

Got a negative result PCR in 48-hours which was decent vs 5 days NSW (last Friday 5pm test, yesterday Sunday 5pm result text, from Robina Health Precinct testing site). Note if you do a PCR they won't give you a free RAT.

Having done tests in both states in the past fortnight, it's admin chaos in QLD compared to NSW testing. If going for tests, I highly recommend doing a RAT first (free or paid) to avoid issues both for yourself and the collapsing system.

  • +3

Not a deal, but I'm more disappointed due to the fact that I still seriously considered ordering it!!

    • +1

If it wasn't for the 3 week wait, I would. After my quick research I decided this is the best test kit TGA has approved so far. Worth OP posting now, but in 3 weeks it will definitely be a bad deal

  • Honestly I'd rather wait in line with a backpack full of drinks and a nintendo switch. Too expensive.

  • Can I still enter hospital emergency without a test result? Don't want to deal with this situation, the process of getting tested, this shortage and expensive price.

    • I'd prefer dealing with this frustrating situation, process, shortage and price to needing ER hospitalisation.

Up to you if you want to queue for hours for free tests, or pay for them. Iso inconvenience and income loss costs me more than tests do.

Kogan is fleecing with these, but of the 15 test brands TGA approved this is my preferred product (easy for kids, and accurate). I'm grateful OP posted it.

To answer your question, we're lucky to live in Australia where ER's provide free medical emergency treatment. Just don't clog up the system for those who need it if you get a runny nose.

      • of course, i'd only go if I am about to die.

        • Truly hope that is never the case.

If it helps, I know 10 friends/families who caught COVID over past two weeks. One unvaxxed mate was very crook, as was one vaxxed. The rest all said it started with sore throat and headache, turned into similar to a sinus cold, and was quite manageable with ibuprofen. Very lucky omicron is mild

          • +1

@TheLurker: Well WHO did say "We underestimate this virus at our peril".
Many reports have said omicron might be quite mild, however there has also been reports of it being quite severe.
Not to mention omicron can also cause "Long COVID".

Not the time to be complacent just because it may seem mild, still be diligent and do as much as we can to contain it.

  • First time trying to buy from kogan even after seeing all the negative reviews because not many options out there with stock (or potential stock), waited few weeks and just got an email saying they couldn't secure the stock so either they replace the order with a different brand with nasal swap or refund.. such a waste of time
