BeyerDynamic DT 990 Edition 250ohm Hi-Fi Headphones $199 + Shipping @ PC Case Gear

250

Another good price on Beyerdynamic headphones! I pulled the trigger this time - standard shipping to my address near Sydney was $16 and express $21

As mentioned in the comments of the last deal I posted, you’re going to want a DAC/amp for these.

  • How is this compared to Sennheiser MassDrop HD6XX? I know its a bit dearer after conversion plus assuming no warranty since its from overseas?

    • +1

Not much difference. HD6XX is better at some things, these are better at others. Generally they are pretty much the same.

The one main bonus the HD6XX has over these is the detachable cable. These have a fixed coiled cable that's fairly long, but it's coiled and heavy.

      • +1

Just of note, this version comes with a straight cable rather than a coiled cable.

Pro has a coiled cable, more clamping force and the headband uses buttons.

    • +1

Your ears will bleed if you're used to senheisser sound.

    • +1

HD6xx sounds more neutral to me. Between DT880 and HD6xx I would call them even, DT880 may be more neutral and more transparent when properly amplified, and more comfortable to wear, but some may prefer HD6XX for being more ‘musical’ while DT880 more ‘analytical’. HD may also have a better resale value as they are more popular.

DT990 is more v-shaped, not to my taste but may please some.

  • i bought one of these about 6 years ago and can't use it. The headband doesn't extend all that far. It's not good if you have a long head.

    • Does that mean youre in the market to sell the old ones?

    • +6

      Why the long face?

      • i didn't think I had a long face. When I see myself in the mirror, to me I look average. But BD thinks my head is too long.

My Sennheisers can fit me with a few clicks to spare.

  • These or the senheisser hd 560s? Will be using for office and gaming plus some music listening.

    • +1

I’d get the 560s to be honest, I find the Sennheisers pads a bit more comfortable for longer use. Also dt990 (and other Beyerdynamic cans) can sound a bit fatiguing due to the brighter signature. 560s is quite detailed too but not as tiring I reckon..

  • These headphones are pretty strong on the treble but it's worth noting that many people do like that kind of sound.
The best way is to just try a pair out, but if you've committed to a purchase there's always EQ software to turn to.

Many devices these days have powerful enough audio outputs (e.g. a decent motherboard or anything Apple makes), so you may not actually need a dedicated amp for these - especially if you don't listen at louder volumes.

If in doubt you can try it without an amp and buy one later if needed.

  • These are pretty good still got the normal dt990 pros Sitting around. Don't tend to use them since getting the DT1990 Pro but the 990s are still more comfortable.

  • +1

FYI you can get the standard DT990 PRO Open Studio Headphones (250ohms) at Store DJ for about $230 normally so I wouldn't jump on this unless you want it to be silver. Also may need a headphone preamp to run these puppies depending on your audio interface setup etc.

    • Yeah I prefer the look of the standard ones
$30 off should be achievable from time to time, I've seen them for 179$ (or if Manny's does the $50 off coupons)

      • Yup same here. I have had my pair for about 5-7 years. They are perfect for audio engineering and have replaceable pads. I love them!

  • OP you might wanna hit them up for a refund given the price just dropped.

    • It’s still showing $199 for me

  • Other than the colour, is this different from these?
    https://www.amazon.com.au/Beyerdynamic-990-Pro-Studio-Headph…

(I prefer to buy from Amazon where possible)

    • Nar it's the same. Hit me with any Q's I've been using them for a lifetime.

      • How does it compare with the DT880 600 Ohm and the DT770 250 ohm? (That's what I have now).

I probably won't end up buying it because I don't need another head set, 50-50 about it.

        • Depends on your needs, the dt770 and 880 are both closes headphones. I prefer opens for home, bit wider sound stage, generally bit cooler. Opens may not be suitable for work- can leak sound, don't block much outside sound (can be good or bad depending what plonkers you work with).

The sound style would still be a bit similar, either way I still like having a pair of open and closed (still got a pair of dt250 pros).

  • Anyone can recommend between dt990 pro or this?

    • or what sorry?

      • DT990 pro or this as in the deal DT990

        • Oh, scroll up, i think they are exactly the same, but one is silver

  • If I enjoy the sound of HyperX Cloud Alpha's, would this be a good upgrade?

  • They hurt my ears after wearing for a while(idk what but they said treble?), I then returned it :(. However they felt pretty comfy on my head.

  • There is a bit of a 10k kHz spike, otherwise pretty good

  • What’s the bass like on these? I’ve heard these are treble heavy.

    • +1

maybe get the 770 or 880 if you are a basshead
it's true they wouldn't have as much but just look at a few reviews etc.
They do have a Beyer type of sound in the high end, not quite as balanced as I'd like but fun.

  • I wanted to love these, and they sound and feel great, but they get so fatiguing to listen to after a while. That treble spike is just too much for me and my ears. Same goes for the DT880s. These Beyers are so freaking comfortable to wear but just too tiring for me.

    • I know it's not ideal but can do some mild EQ with a windows interface (look up peace EQ or something).
I found changing to the DT1990 pros fixed it :P

      • Yeah, I've been using Realphones by dSoniq for a nice system-wide custom EQ, and it definitely helps, but they're still noticeably tiring. But yeah the DT1990s look nice. Also the new DT900 Pro X! And.. Andd… :)

  • Had a pair for 4 years.. build to last, harsh on the treble, otherwise not bad sound. Worth the price but I’d never go back.
