Click and Collect Coles Direct to Boot without a Car

Planning to do my first click and collect at my local coles. Is it possible to collect through direct to boot without a car? My local coles offers direct to boot. Can I collect it at the service desk instead? Or do I need to wait at the designated parking bays?

Also how would I let them know I am already there? Thanks

    Lol…

  • The whole point of direct to boot is that there is minimal contact.
I have seen my local Coles has a sign saying a car is required.

They just bring a trolley to you.

Do you walk up to McDonald's drive thru too without a car?

    • +3

lol I tried that when I was 12, they refused to serve me..

Different situation as a Drive Thru requires you to walk down a driving lane, I think the answer to this question is going to depend on the individual store setup and whether you can get to the direct to boot location.

Why not try find out, usually at back dock, there is a number to call or button to press. Tell them your car is too big for coles driveway.

      That's right. My humvee won't fit….

Why not spend 5 minutes in the store LoL

That's just called click and collect if you're just going into coles service desk to pickup. Select click and collect not direct to boot

Don't select direct to boot, unless you expect to stand at the bay and call them to come out to give it to u I suppose

I have actually done this few years back (before pandemic) as my local Coles only had Click & collect to car boot, not at service desk. I didn't know that I need a car so went there with a shopping trolley like this and parked it in a parking bay. There was a number on the wall to call after arriving and someone from Coles came outside with a trolley full of my items so I filled my trolley with them. It was kinda funny though.

No car, so pick up in a trolley.

Where did you leave the trolley after use?

Back at the Shop,? Car Park? or Street?

It was a shopping buggy, not a coles branded metal trolley.

The best thing you can do is to call your local store. With my local Woolworths, there wasn't an option to do click and collect strangely. I called up my store and they said that just do direct to boot and collect your items from the service desk.

Coles has a click and collect service last time I checked……

  • Or do I need to wait at the designated parking bays?

Yes. You can wait by standing still at that spot.

Build a car with cardboard boxes

Click n Collect is the least of your problems with both Coles and Woolworths low on product and few pick-up slots free.

Or do I need to wait at the designated parking bays?

Do this…. I assume its only a few items as you ummm don't have a car :)

But its kinda like why!? Either get it delivered or walk into the store yourself and buy it.

So you can spend less time in the store but more of a problem when things are OOS as you have to rely on someone else's substitution choices.

      • Then go for delivery if you don't want to be in the store……. Either option you are at the whim of someone else's substitution choices, unless you enter the store yourself.

I mean the OP doesn't have a car, so it's not like they can click/collect too much as they have to carry it home.

For a definitive answer simply ask at the service desk of your store

What did Coles say when you called them?

    • +4

"Hello, Thank you for calling Coles!" lol

      • +1

Oooh that's a difficult one, I wouldn't know how to respond to that.

    I've done it. No problems.

    Was with this deal

Online Only so just waited out the front.

Depends on your definition of a "car".

  • They will still hand you your trolley with your order at the front desk

  • Tried online shopping for the first time with a recent promo of 2k flybuys for min $100 spend online. Not only did I waited for 30 min at the Carlingford Coles service counter to collect my groceries they also deleted so many items that were not available instore that I ended up with less than the min spend. So I wasted my time and lost the bonus points. Will never shop online with Coles again.

    • If you rang customer service they would give you the points

Click and Collect Coles Direct to Boot

I'm sure they call it "direct to boot" for a reason! Unless you have some kind of other "boot" they can put your items in?

No love for those with VW Bug with no "boot"

Isn't that a just a preference of the… umm.. front or back? 😊

When you do it they just bring a shopping trolley to the marked car park space and leave the trolley with you (they don't actually put it in the boot in my experience). When you arrive in the carpark space you have to call the mobile phone number on the sign to tell them you are there.
My store doesn't do in store collection and only offers direct to boot - but based on what they do I don't think they would have an issue with you not having a car as in my experience it would make absolutely no difference (you just go, stand in the space in the carpark, call them, they bring trolley and walk away - still no contact. Only difference is your car is invisible!
But, I would say you should go to the place and call them from the number on the sign as that goes direct to the people that bring it and ask them. There may be some safety rule saying officially they shouldn't do it as its encouraging you to stand in a carpark or some nonsense (in which case they should offer the option to collect in store at all stores!). The service desk are not, in my case, the people who bring the shopping - I guess it depends on the store, layout and numbers.
I'm guessing you want to do it for the offers (its crazy they offer it so much cheaper given it must cost them a lot in staffing to do all this) or just want to minimise your contact in busy places. One thing you need to get used to is they will pick weird substitutes that you wouldn't have picked, and they won't substitute some stuff that you need and would have wanted, plus check what they bring you as there is frequently stuff missing (EG all the frozen is missing because they forgot to go to the freezer and grab those bags so check it before you walk away otherwise you have to go back!).
