Samsung Odyssey G9 Monitor (49", 5120x1440 VA 240HZ) $1888 Delivered (Box slightly damaged) @ Online Computer

700

Saw this deal on their Facebook page running from today and expiring tomorrow. I clicked on the URL to see that it includes slightly box damaged version for this price (add an extra $111 for a non-box damaged one which is still a deal in itself).

I have had this monitor for over a year now and its been fantastic - just update the firmware to the latest version. This monitor has been superceded by the Odyssey Neo although I have read there are many issues with that model at the moment.

The store is also pretty good, i had previously bought a 3090 on launch day and received it that next day.

Not sure how much stock they have.

If only it was the Neo 🥲

    • +1

Wasn't the Neo model still plagued with issues. This non-Neo model is at least usable now (if the scan line issue is acceptable).

I have been using one since launch & HDR issues I had were fixed with combination of monitor firmware update & clean upgrade to Windows 11. Personally if I knew the HDR in neo wasn't close to mind blowing as my LG C1, I would have skip it but atleast I have games that I regularly play now that takes a huge advantage of that wide aspect ratio. But at that non neo price its okay but I have I feeling samsung education store would be cheaper than that as Neo dropped hard when it pop up on that education store early after launch

        • OK fair enough then. For the price I think the non-Neo is still a good monitor (in the ultra high-end scale of course lol) and I really love mine. Have they fix the auto source detect? I still have to manually switch between between my PC and work laptop.

          • @Davesday: I just realised that feature recently and kinda of, basing of what you saying. It would only do auto source detect while the monitor is on.

            • @Rage Roze: But you do need to physically connect the video source plug in order to trigger it right? Because mine does not change to the active video channel unless I unplug the video and plug it in again or I just change it via OSD.

              • @Davesday: Well pretty much if it the same as turn on the console while the monitor is turn on to get it to switch to hdmi. Personally I have turned off cuz how finicky it is, automatically switches to hdmi when the console was already on previously etc.

    Neo is the one.

  • No, you want the ark!

    Waiting on the Trinity version

Hold out for the Quantum Dot OLEDs!!

    • +2

Agree, from whats been shown so far they look great.

      • How much are you guys gonna spend though? I bought a G9 with a line through it and that was $1K and its amazing (I dont notice the line, bought for work but I use it for gaming now)

    • Got a link?

    • Cheaper?

    • That’s a fair point actually, the extra vertically space on the 38” is definitely something to consider

We have different interpretations of the word scam

    • +1

Are you talking about the 21:9? If so, that's hardly the same thing.

  • 120hz? Do you mean 240?

    • Yeah someone else added those specs to the title. Have updated it now

  • Got one from Sammy a few months ago. Dont really see any issues. Few tweaks needed with the resolution etc and cabling, but it really is a good bit of gear.
I use mine for gaming, large work sheets (excel etc), multiple windows, PiP, Photoshop, etc… blah blah and no real issues that cause me to want to send it sailing off the balcony. It also have the latest FW from the Sammy website, and latest drivers running on the PC for the screen, GPU etc.

Yet to see what all the problems are, and hopefully never will… Worse case, buy, dont like? send it back!
    I'm happy enough!

BTW - if its the G9 Odyssey then its a 240Hz monitor when driven correctly and has G-Sync.

Tempted to buy a second, but after Christmas and NY… I'll need to wait, bills to pay!!! Damn it!

    • I wouldn’t recommend two. Unless it’s going on a separate pc (sore neck experience wfh).

      • Stacked, vertically. :)
I run way to many apps at once.. one is already crammed!

        w@n4er i know…

    • Does your support automatic source selection? I have to manually switch between PC and work laptop every morning.

  • +1

Perfect, needed a new monitor for my Excel spreadsheets.

    • +1

Not sure if it's sarcasm but wide screens are great for it. However the curve on this one kinda screws with it.

I use a 21:9 with minimal curve and it's great, goes all the way to column AC

  • Is the resolution tolerable?

I had the 32 inch G7 and couldn't stand the resolution. Made everything look like rubbish. But that was 1440p on a 32 inch.

    • I have a 4k 27 inch ips monitor that does look more crisp with the pixel density. This is probably a bit better than the g7 though

    • +1

      Yep! i think its great.
Have occasional issue with some app toolbars etc, but you can force the app to run in High DPI mode if needed (W10)

  • +2

No buy at this price unless it's a QD Oled monitor.

  • +1

have had this monitor for months now its flawless

running at 240hz with no issues with my 3080

no idea what the hate is, if you dont own it then dont knock it.

I have duel LG 5k 27 inch ultra fine displays both displays do full 5k resolution 5120x2880 at 60hz IPS with a P3 colour gamma of 98% a single one of these monitors is 2 grand and has real 5k resolution. all this monitor is in general is dual 2560x1440p displays combine its not 5k. there marketing is a load of BS. People would be stupid enought to think this is 5k when it isn't

    • +2

Their* marketing never claimed this is a 5k monitor, even their product description says dual qhd

      • +1

agree, have never seen anyone refer to it or think its a 5k monitor

    • +7

Probably just a subtle flex from kungfuman who wants us all to know that he has 'duel' 5k monitors at 2 grand each…

    • +1

      "I have duel"

      username checks out…

  • Using Neo Ver since day 1, and I do love this monitor!

  • -4

I will pass and stick with my Alienware monitor. This monitor is not IPS and only looks good in certain games. However if you really need that 49inch to look at 6 x deformed Excel spreadsheets at a time in the name of productivity…

    • +2

The VA in this is better than the IPS in the Alienware for sure

    • +6

If you enjoy your Alienware monitor so much, you could probably put it to better use than being weirdly salty about a different monitor.

      • its almost like hes trying to justify his purchase and not regret seeing this one.

does this vendor accepts kidney ? 🤔

If you own one of these, you're 100% a virgin neckbeard.

    • So you're safe if you own two of themđź‘Ś

    • +3

I have it on good authority that calling someone a virgin neckbeard actually means it's more likely that you are the virgin neckbeard, rather than them.

Just had to take a laugh at your comment, cheers mate, so true!

The rest of us pop in for deals and get back to renovating the bathroom.

  • Should I buy this or CRG9 for $1299?
