Clean and Fresh Disinfectant Wipes 100 Pack 0.47% Benzalkonium Chloride $4.00 @ The Reject Shop

150

I dropped by the reject shop today after yesterday's Dettol 50% off Multi-Purpose Disinfectant Wipes deal. As the Dettol sold out quickly (clearly demand for benzalkonium Chloride wipes) and I couldn't find these on The Reject Shop's website, I went into the store and purchased another to upload the docket.

Prices work out similar now that the reject shop have increased their price from $2 to $4, but this is still a good deal consider they contain 0.47% Benzalkonium Chloride compared to Dettol's 0.38% Benzalkonium Chloride, hence are a lot stronger.

These are also super moist, and I can disinfect all the benchtops in the kitchen with a single wipe. They also smell nice for budget wipes.

They also have Antibacterial Household Wipes 85 pack for $2.00, but contain only 0.2% Benzalkonium Chloride

Features

  • Kills 99.9% of germs (E.coli, Salmonella, S.aureus.)
  • Cuts through grease and grime
  • Suitable for hard surfaces (benchtops, toilets etc)

Other Store Options

Big thanks to ZoldyckR for pointing out Woolworths have a similar product Strike Disinfectant Wipes Lemon 100 Pack $3.50, which is a better option if you are able to get stock at your local store. These also contain 0.47% Benzalkonium Chloride

It's those 0.01% of viruses that the wipes don't kill that you gotta worry about! 🤣

Does anyone find these wipes leave a residue?

  • I think I saw the Aldi brand the other day on special for $1.99 but not sure the concentration of the benzalkonium HCL

What is the significance of Benzalkonium Chloride? I feel like I missed something

There are various types of antibacterial wipes

Wipes with this ingredient (benzalkonium chloride) is recommended and best used for skin prep (eg for catheter insertion or basic first aid), wound prep / wound care etc due to less irritability/sting and they will not dry out your skin as much as alcohol wipes. I also think of it as an alternative to betadine (which also come in wipes) without the mess! It can also be used for household cleaning and are very effective in a domestic environment.

Alcohol wipes are best used to clean around a wound only (if possible) and cleaning equipment or utensils to assist with keeping them as sterile as possible - eg are used to clean hospital grade beds / mattresses / other surfaces regularly touched by a patient. They can be quite harsh and completely overkill for general household cleaning particularly on domestic products and surfaces.

I'm not sure if there has been some recent media etc promoting benzalkonium chloride but always important to understand the appropriate use and to remember us Aussies are very lucky to have such a good range of products available to us!

    Does this kill Omicron?

  • Dettol wipes now back at 0.47%. new stock anyway.

    • Maybe these 0.38% are old stock, but they were only listed 2 months ago

      • Got a box about a month ago, all 0.47%,, I see pics not updated Amazon is typically slow at that. Manufactured date was newer than the old stock I had. Probably changed back on account of covid.

        • Possibly you got old stock at 0.47%. Even Dettol's website states Benzalkonium Chloride 0.38% w/w (Halfway down the page in an area with both blue and green background under "ingredients".

Chemist Warehouse also state Benzalkonium Chloride 0.38% w/w.

MSDS May 2020 Issued Also supports 0.38% is current, as it contains 0.40g of Benzalkonium Chloride in 100g Liquid (That's the maximum average). If you calculate density weights (especially EtOH), it's ~38%w/w

Not sure what you got, or if it was a grey import

          • @Froot Loops: Well, now I look, the pack that expires on 02/03/2023, was made in china. The older pack, that expires just plainly on the 06/2022, was made in Poland. Nonetheless both ordered from Amazon. The Polish box came from prime day, maylast year, and the Chinese box from black friday in November last year. Notably the Chinese ones seem thinner, but are certainly stronger.

I've often found the Dettol wipes to still be quite moist towards the end of the pack, unlike a few others. When I have purchased a box with subscribe and save, price drops to about $4 for a pack of 120 in a box of 6.

Nonetheless, a good buy when not available.

  • I got these for $2 a pack of 90 wipes the other day at Reject Shop in Willetton WA.
