Aah I remember the days when scalpers are flogging these for $800+ - hope some got stuck with them.

  • +3

Pm JB I think. if I were In the market, I'd either buy oled, or second hand unpatched launch model.

    • Why unpatched? Have seen people say that but don't get it.

      • +5

        So they can hack it.

      • So you can mod it for homebrew and such.

      • Unpatched so you can run unofficial software (i.e. homebrew) on the Switch.
You can backup your cartridges, overclock the CPU/GPU/Memory and install emulators as a short list of possible things you can do with a software modded Switch

        • Can the current firmware on OLED do that too ?

          • +1

@ThePasserby: No, the firmware was patched several years ago now.

          • +1

            @ThePasserby: Only with hard mod

          • +1

@ThePasserby: No, it’s only the original model and even then only the earlier models which have an unpatchable hardware exploit. Later revisions (including the lite and oled models) don’t have the hardware exploit

        • Can play pirated switch games downloaded from internet (if it's a thing) too?

  • +10

Makes very little sense why they just don't bundle the game with it and charge a bit more.

    • +2

Yeah, I really don't understand the idea of not bundling the game and charging $100 more, even though the game is usually only like $70.

      • +4

        Yeah… Cough gamesman cough

        • Lol A multinational thats more consumer friendly than a one shop small business.

      • +1

It's probably because Nintendo is not competent enough to do that with their eShop system.

        • They did it with the 3DS.

Sure, they were incompetent and used the same license key across all special edition systems of each game, but they did it.

    • +2

It's so the console can come from the same factory batch but released in multiple regions without localisation.

    • +1

Disagree. Some people might want the limited edition for the ecstatic but no interest in the game.

Or someone might prefer physical/digital. Instead of selling different versions of it, just leave it to the consumer to get their own game whether digital or physical or neither

      • +3

I'd say if someone pays $100 more just for an Animal Crossing themed console - they are interested in that game.

        • +1

… and probably already own it, at this point.

i am still kicking myself… during boxing day 2019 (or 2018 ?) amazon sold for $329 i was like hummm hammm deciding for 1 hour and then sold out…..

    • +1

That's weak man, you should just buy it.

    • +4

Are you kicking yourself for two years for $90 saving?

    • +1

      Time to move on mate.

    • Plenty on the fb marketplace…

    • +1

You should have just…made the switch

  • +8

Honestly if you play it docked like I do, the OLED version doesn't really give you any benefits.

  • How is still a thing?
    Oh it’s Nintendo.

They know an OLED version will sell like RATs.

  • Animal Crossing (Game Not Included)

  • Bought one different version on 30 Dec, still waiting. Not shipped yet 😂
