Laser Printer for Small Business

Hi,

I was just looking for a laser printer that is ~$400 with duplex scanning for a small business setup. Don't really mind whether it is colour or mono - colour would be a big plus though. Keen to see what you guys think!

  • A4 or A3?

    • A4 :)

    Epson ET 4750

    • I think that's inkjet - I'd prefer laser because of the faster speed :)

3770CDW is the one to get - as this one does the duplex scanning on both sides. I believe it's exclusive to Officeworks - but if you don't need that feature you could opt for the 3750CDW which is a bit cheaper. Then it gets even cheaper if you don't need colour.

Edit: looks like 3770cdw is no longer exclusive to officeworks but most places sold out. You might need to stretch your budget a bit

    • Thanks, I'll have a look into that model!

I got the 3750CDW for printing study notes. Overall pretty decent print quality, has high yield compatible toners which works beautifully (i got mine from Aussie Toners on Ebay, cost about $60 for the full set). But the only issue i would complain is the misleading print speed. It advertises for 24ppm black and lesser for color. However my real world test from a normal quality print is about 15 ppm black and about 8-10 ppm color (5 ppm or less for duplex color). You can probably achieve the stated ppm by reducing the print quality but it is so fuzzy i couldnt see legend on charts clearly on a 2 slide per page print out.

        • have u had any issues with Aussie Toner toners since your post here?

I just ask because seems a few people on here have said they're decent but they're much cheaper than even the other companies selling non-OEM like Inkstation.

          AussieToner for $57

          Inkstation for $167

seems too good to be true if they're good. At the same time, don't wanna wreck my printer if they're not.

@witsa: Hi Witsa, my post was made in Jan 22. At that time, I was using toners from AussieToner. The print quality was actually decent. However, around May 22 or so, I accidentally updated my drivers (itchy hands!) and all my toners were disabled completely. The printer kept saying "No toners found" which made the printer unable to print even mono. As such, I wouldnt recommend using them unless you can confirm with the seller that their new batch works with the latest drivers.

Now Im using Inkstation toners (about $120 after discount). My printer would say "Non Genuine Toners" but it still allows me to print. However, I found that print quality is lower than expected. The Blue Magenta Yellow colors are not vibrant and somewhat light which results in very color inaccurate print out. So now I just try to print in black which looks ok.

Honestly, Im still looking out in the forum for someone else to recommend another reliable seller.

            • @KaTst3R: thanks, yeah i've been told the updating of the firmware can mess up any non-OEM toners. I've had my printer for about a year now though and haven't updated the firmware so hopefully, it should be fine.

Sounds like I might give aussietoner a shot then.

@witsa: If you have issues, just give them a message. Aussietoner is pretty responsive. But unfortunately, they cant help my situation as the toners i have is an older batch which is probably black listed.

    • The thing is, I already have a MFC-9330CDW for printing and the only thing that it's missing is the duplex scanning. I did look into getting a dedicated scanner, but those are around the same price as an MFD

    I'd recommend a Brother laser.

Officeworks have a Brother Wireless Colour Laser Printer HL-L8260CDW for $449 with automatic duplexing.

    https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/brother-wi…

    • I don't think this model would fit OP's duplex scanning requirement

    • That might not suit due to: "Attn: please note that this printer does not have automatic double sided scanning"

      • Good call.

Kyocera Ecosys M5526cdn + Generic Toner Set then. The toner's more expensive vs the other model, but is higher yield.

        • Ecotech seem to have some great pricing on their printers.

          • @Heaps for Cheaps: What would be the difference between an M5526cdn and the brother 3770cdw?

            • @jwu56: tbh I have no experience with the Kyocera…

            • +2

@jwu56: A couple of things I can think of off the bat.

Brother 3770cdw - Colour touch display, wireless, lower yield (however the generic toner sets are cheaper vs the Kyocera)

Kyocera M5526cdn - No colour touch display or wireless (however you can resolve the absence of wireless by purchasing the M5526cdw instead), higher yield

              Based on my own observations:

              • I've seen a similar Brother multifunction written off & replaced with the same model after 18-24 months (fuser unit failure), because it made more financial sense to purchase a brand new one, as the fuser replacement almost cost as much as buying an entire unit brand new.
              • I've recommended several Kyocera M5521's, and haven't heard of a failure from any of them yet.

              YMMV however.

              • @ozwog05: Thanks so much for the advice!
Do you have any recommendations for a mono kyocera?

                • @jwu56: No worries.

Unfortunately, the two A4 Mono Multifunction models that Kyocera offer are single-sided scan & copy, so in that instance, you're probably better off going for a Brother MFC-L2750DW.
