Amazon Echo Show 8 2nd Gen $149 @ Lakemba Shop (Price Beat $141.55 @ Officeworks)

110

Used this to pick one up from OW today.

They took a while looking at the website. It is a bit dodgy looking I guess. I’m sure they’re legit though and it worked none the less.

  • The very top of the site:
    "This is header widget area"
    "Super fast shippimg"
"Welcome to free Envo Shop Theme"

No idea how you got them to price beat that.

Maybe I should make my own clearly fake online stores to price match with…

    • Lmao yeah I had like 3 different people look at it to decide whether they were going to do it. Was def lookin shaky but they came through in the end.

And yes. I was daydreaming about doing something like that while I watched them deliberate. It doesn’t even sound illegal tbh. I’m on board.

Just sold my gen 1 today. One of the most useless things I've ever owned.

    • The news was from the UK because my Amazon account was opened in the UK and no one could work out how to switch it to Australia despite every address on Amazon being Australian.
    • The weather was never as accurate as any app that uses the forecasts from the BOM.
    • Alexa constantly failed to play music on other devices when I asked her even though I set it up
    • Alexa is useless at providing general facts on things you ask about.

It's one real use was as a timer. So it was a very expensive timer!

    • You movin to google instead?

Tbh I only bought this because I just got a Ring doorbell.
I only just got into video doorbells and went through trying to get an Arlo and Eufy to work reliably with a Google Nest Hub and the whole thing just sucked. Extreme lag and didn’t work half the time. I was over here thinking it’s going to be seamless because it’s 2022, but no.

Happy to report the Echo works great with the Ring. Live view pops up straight away and there’s minimal lag with the 2-way chat.

The speakers are pretty decent too.

  • I bought one of these for $99 in December to upgrade from a gen 1. Doesn't appear to be that different by having the faster processor but the video quality apparently looks better an the other end when I call people on it.

    I use mine to:
    - video call family who have one too
    - control smart devices eg open blinds, toggle lights, change input on tv/turn tv off, play white noise for puppy at night. Acts as an aggregator for multiple services and makes it easy to simulate being home when I'm not as a security measure.
    - set timers
    - check weather
    - occasionally for recipes

Probably wouldn't have got one for $150 but happy with it at sub $100

If its the same shop from Amazon, be aware . This guy used to sell phone cobers. He's dodgy as. He also ignores your messages and at the end he blames you saying he didn't receive a returned package when au post provided a photo for the delivery. Stay away
