Free Mulch with Free Delivery

Just received 2x truckloads of good mulch (~30m3), delivered for free. Thought I'd share about this awesome service, as it doesn't seem well advertised. I wasn't sure it would be acceptable to post as a deal seeing as there is no time limit and you may or may not receive any (as it depends on the contractors in your area).

Basically you just register your name, area and phone number on this website:
http://mulchnet.com/

It then lets local tree loppers know you are willing to accept free mulch at your address. The contractor calls you and confirms if they are bringing you some.

The only catch is you agree to take whatever is on the truck, which could be a full load eg 15m3 (a bit more than 15 trailer loads). You need space for the truck to dump this on your front garden/verge/whatever. You can always do what we are & offer what you don't want to neighbors, friends or freecycle/sell it on.

The service is Australia wide. I have no affiliation with them, just a VERY happy user of the service - it saved me the cost of trailer hire/mulch purchase.

Edit: 15m3 not 15m2!

  • Much better than just tipping it, as long as it's organic and compostable - it decomposes. And great habitat for the bugs and fungi that keep the earth cycles cycling. :)

Great idea. And no doubt works for the tree loppers and landscapers.

I'll keep that link for if I even have the space.

    • It's a great idea, helps both homeowners AND the tree loppers. Better for the planet when we're mulching and the tree loppers aren't driving far to dump the load so helping the planet a bit there too.

Obviously the quality of mulch would depend on the contractor, ours was very good, 75% dry wood chip, 25% green leaves, branches etc. A very small amount of rubbish in it (plastic food wrappers, a piece of plyboard) which I just pick out as I go. Considering we were paying $40-60 a trailer load without delivery, it's a sweet deal.

  • how long did you have to wait for a delivery after signing up?

    • About 2 weeks. I wasn't expecting to ever get any, sounded a bit too good to be true..

  • +5

Nice share - thanks for the "tip"

  • Hey if you can get free mulch in this way is there any reason you should really buy mulch if you can just get it for free in this way? I'm as far from an expert as possible, I just wanted to do something with my backyard. I called these guys about it and they seemed real nice (https://jackstrees.com.au/tree-services/mulch-sales/) but I can't make heads or tales about what the specifics of mulch selling are. I've barely wrapped my head around why you would buy it in the first place so any help would be appreciated.
