  • I need something for the driveway at my new house. I don't have a caravan, just a small car. Can anyone recommend a product?

  • As car ramps for the home mechanic, that's a bargain!

    • +2

Aldi had similar ramps that I purchased with the same intention

The Aldi item have a warning on the packaging to never get under a vehicle raised with these ramps. So I ended up returning them.

      • +13

You want to still put stands under the vehicle, Even collect 2 old car rims from curbside pickup can be helpful.
Anything under the car that will clear your body is the best incase the vehicle does fall you can get out.

You never go under a car with only 1 point of failure.

    • +9

Im not sure if i trust this while im under the car . I would also put some stands under it.

      • Absolutely, you always want a backup.

    • -1

They can only raise it 4 inches, would that be enough?

      • +4

For a medium sized SUV it's enough. But if the ramps are not designed for this use.. please don't do it, or proceed with caution.

        • +1

Thanks, have just removed from cart.

      • +2

They are good for lower cars that struggle to fit a trolley jack underneath

  • Lol! at a quick glance, I thought it was a Tech deck ramp!hahaha

    Can I use this for RAV4 ???

    • +5

Does it have roof racks that can carry a Kayak?

      • Does it have a bullbar to move pedestrians out of the way?

        • +1

You can put bullbars on any car, you however cannot but roof racks on any Rav4

    • +2

To make it higher like a real 4WD? Certainly!

    • Not all all. Different purpose

      • Don’t these slide forward as the car drives up it on a concrete surface?

        • I never had that problem, just make sure you drive up in one motion with your other foot on the brake ready to stop once it's in position

          • @[Deactivated]: Nice to know. It looks like the Autobarn one is rated for more kg? Also do you still need jack as backup for these?

            • +1

@MuddyClear: Yes looks like the Autobarn is rated for 2.4T vs 1T for Repco but not sure if that's an issue for most cars as you're not lifting the weight of whole car. I use them to change the oil which doesn't take long. Didn't use a jack. I think jacks are more unsafe, they're not designed to rest the weight of the car, only to lift it up then put jack stands underneath
              https://www.repco.com.au/en/search/?text=Car+ramp

              • @[Deactivated]: Just wondering is it good using ramps to change engine oil? Because when you drive your car onto it, there will be a certain incline to the rear, which I doubt would prevent the oil from a clean release out of the oil pan. Newbie question bear with me.

                • @WayneOZ: I know what you're saying but don't think it's a problem because the sump bolt is attached to the bottom of the sump which is under the engine at the front end

                  • @[Deactivated]: Am I right abou it? Pic

                  • @[Deactivated]: Sump bolt is underneath but your pic shows it located on the side, plus that angle is too extreme. Maybe there is a small amount left (less than 50ml) but it will mix with the new oil and won't affect your engine. You will never get every single drop of the old oil out.

I have these and I find the flat spots really short so the car wheel tends to roll back off if you don't apply brakes quickly. Does the job as a ramp and seems quite strong, but not a proper car ramp.

Ensure you chock the wheels on the ground before getting under it!!

    • Yes, these aren't very big. They should specify the max tyre diameter that would fit.

  • +1

Don't forget - only useful for single axle caravans.

    • Why not useful for tandem caravans?

      • +1

        Physics

      • You need the ones that split in 2 so you can get it in between the 2 wheels. Personally I use these but not cheap - https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/-/265264980635

I didn't pay that much though - got them for about $80 the pair with chocks & bag.

  • +7

Please don't use these to raise and get under your car.

They are not designed for this. Ignore the Muppets in the reviews.

    • Levelling ramp: not meant to replace a jack.

    • Then what is it for? Just wondering.

      • +2

Leveling your single axle caravan if the ground is uneven.

  • whats the dimensions on these?

    • Per comment, ~4 inches, which seems to be highest point. Similar product 21cm wide, 12.5cm tall.

  • -2

An average of 160 injuries are associated with vehicle jacks each year, including death, amputation to fractures and crush injuries

    As per productsafety.gov.au

    Be careful guys

    • +6

      Thank God these aren't jacks.

  • anyone can comment on how these would go with trying to get a lowered car up a standard driveway with no kerb cutout?

    • I would say it wouldn't be fit for purpose. The end of the ramp has a sloped design meaning there would be a gap between the gutter edge and the ramp.

    • Depends on the vehicle. I have the fit for purpose repco plastic ramps and even my standard VF SS is too low for those by about 3mm. Too steep. I have to rely on a 5mm drop on my drive to use the ramps.

    • The end is raised, it's not designed to be driven over, especially if you're coming over it backwards to get back out.

You want something more like these but depends on the curb, where the contact point is, if you want it permanent or portable

      • do i need council approval?

        • Given it's on the council's land, yes you would. Would be considered part of the crossover.

    • Nope, the tall end is sloped back. If you take the car all the way to the end, there's a chance the ramp will slip from under the wheel and 'drop' your car onto the edge of the gutter. Don't do it. You'd be far better off getting gutter bumpers specifically designed for that purpose. They are solid rubber, don't slip, and are angled to fit the gutter shape perfectly. Clearly not as cheap as these ramps, but think about the damage if your car doesn't get up the gutter properly. Not worth it man.

Just look at the picture FFS.

I own two of these, also purchased for $15 about 2 years ago. They go on sale on a regular basis.

I own a low profile car and it's hard to get enough clearance under the car to get the jack to the sub frame.
These have a low enough clearance for the car to not get caught on the slope (like other vehicle ramps).

I also use them to level out the car when doing oil changes (we have a slight slope to our driveway).

Once you do the service and drop the car back on the ground with 3/4 filled oil, leveling it out on these ramps to get the perfect amount of oil into it is handy.

    • do i need 2 for service, or one is enough?

      • +9

If you need to ask this question, it's probably best you dont service your car.

Also refer to above comments about how this is not rated to get under the car, so please take precautions.

        • They're designed to hold 5,000kgs for long periods of time as when caravans are parked they're probably there for a while. Perfectly fine to use for servicing, no need to fear monger. Just make sure to use jack stands under the car & chalk the rear wheels, as you would with any car ramp that would be rated less at 2,000kgs.

    • I have been using a paver next to a brick

After thinking about it I dont want to find a place to store these for marginal convenience

  • can anyone let me know the height at the last step and also the width? There's ones below for 10cm and 20cm wide.

    https://www.campsmart.net.au/yellow-3-step-levelling-ramps-p…

    • +1

Same dimensions as this one. I measured mine.

  • Serious question, given these are levellers do you really need two (single axle camper-trailer) or is there some sort of advantage to using two at different levels that I haven't considered?

    • I think you're right. Would only need to buy 1.

    • 2 seems useful for leveling a motorhome/van

  • Slightly off topic but I need to get under my 4wd to install bash plates. Should I buy something like this and add car stands for contingency, or would I be better getting 2x front wheel metal car ramps and that’s enough (no contingency needed)?

    • Just get some ramps. Often avail second hand, cant go wrong.

  • Good price for a pair, grabbed some. Thanks OP for sharing.
