    …Crossley Cruiser vinyl cutting lathe…

Almost spat coffee on my keyboard

I too am now looking for a keybaord deal

Deliberate misspelling of keyboard to emphasise possible beverage damage - love it!

Looks like the same mechanism as the Crosley though! Reviews say it doesn't keep speed either.

Oh, found bigger pics and it looks closer to the Audio Technica LP60. Those are pretty well reviewed but seem stupidly expensive right now. Almost what a LP120 used to be worth.

This comes with a decent cartridge & stylus that doesn't require the heavy tracking force that stuff like the Crosley would. It still doesn't have the adjustability of antiskate or tonearm weight (but if that's calibrated properly it's not a problem). The speed wobbles would be the only huge negative at this price

  • Anyone have thoughts on this turntable? I just inherited my parents vinyls and turntable, but unfortunately the turntable doesn't seem to work. Looking for a good, reasonably priced replacement.

    • +8

if your parents turntable is an original (60s-70s-80s) and a decent name. You are way bettr off getting it fixed. Youll get a better product and prob a lower price :)

      • Agree, get your parent's turntable fixed, as it would likely be far better than anything on the current market. I have a japan 70's Onkyo ep700m and have hooked it up to a preamp and Sonos five, runs amazingly - definitely recommend fixing your old one.

        • Can you please recommend a pre-amp?

Ideally an "ozbargain" type one….. i.e. cheap but good quality.

          thanks!

            @clandestino: Hey,

no complaints with my Behringer PP400, which you should be able to pick up new for about $40.

I got mine second hand for $10, so look around your area and you might have some luck!

@clandestino: I bought a Pro-Ject Phono Box E from JB - Works fine, picked up for about $100.

      • It’s a CEC BA-300 I think (judging by Google pics).

        Is this a good brand?

It did work at their place but when I plugged it in, there was no power. They’ve had it fixed multiple times, so I thought it might just have finally run it’s life.

        • The Japanese electronics company CEC - founded in 1954 - is not a household name. And yet this manufacturer produced high quality turntables for the world's biggest audio brands in the 70's and 80's. But once you open up the hood on many excellent 70's decks from Marantz, Yamaha, Pioneer, Kenwood, Toshiba, Hitachi, to name a few, it quickly becomes clear to the trained eye that they are CEC builds.

CEC teamed up with distributors and tried to launch their own line of turntables in North America but poor marketing made it a fairly short-lived project. The company had more success in Canada than in the US so here it's still possible to find many CEC branded gems, including the model up for sale, the BA-300.

One recently sold on etsy for AUD 287.42

    • If you can afford it and it's a good collection buy a Thorens

You're going to have so much fun slowly degrading your disc that wasn't as good as CD at the start.

    • +1

The way they compress cds today is not pleasant to ears. Not the support's fault but they way they use it

I hate seeing this cliche… but you must be fun at parties.

  • i always wanted to be a DJ, they seem to have an amazing life. are these good enough to be a dj with?

    • The best DJs use macbooks … 🤭

You will get all the girls, money, and dope with these for sure. A life of travel and excitement awaits you!

It's Technics or nothing for djs

      • that is what i thought too, that is what i always see. will i be laughed at with these denon turntables?

        • Similar to the comment below, these are belt drive not direct drive, you'll be forever adjusting try to beat match, there is far too much lag as they're not really strong enough to hold at a cue, then get to speed when released.
You can do it, but you'll be frustrated AF and more than likely hate the experience.

If you want technics you'll be looking Sl1200/1210 mk11 or mk5, and you'll be paying anywhere from 1-3k second hand

Check out some Stanton direct drives if you want to learn or have a go, you'll find these second hand for a $100-$300.you might be able to find a setup on Gumtree or marketplace for quite cheap with a 2x
          Ch mixer.

          • @mrwindow: awesome, thank you for sharing your knowledge. 1-3k is out of my budget, so i will try to find some stantons.
            thank you so much

    • +2

If the turntable is not direct drive (IE uses a belt), it's not suitable for DJ'ing. You won't be able to scrub back and forwards to make the scratchy sound.

  • Im in the market for a turntable, also looking on fb marketplace and gumtree. Any recommendations for something to match up with some old passive pioneer monitors (both turntable and reciever?) Cheers!
