I saw the deal posted for a 3080 HP Omen and saw on the same website that there was a decent deal on a 3050Ti model, specifically with a Ryzen 7 5800H. Seems like a good all rounder machine if you want to use it for day to day tasks.

Reviews say that this has almost 9 hour battery life. Seems like a good deal since it has a beefy processor with some gaming if you need.

There's also a version with a 3060 for 180 dollars extra, but has a i7 11800H, which is a processor with terrible battery life.

I have the QHD i7-11800H 3060 model and the battery life is awful :( wish I had the Ryzen version

    • +1

Worth noting that the Ryzen version is the same price

    HP Victus 16.1" Gaming Laptop

    Highly recommended for Minesweeper…

    • Minesweeper is serious business

      • It is if you've turned pro

      • Yeh… Employee retention is a bit of a bitch in that industry…

    • What do you do?

    • Will this zoom so I can see Sandra?

        what's new

        Russia has entered the Ukraine…

        • yeah the fokkers are asking for trouble

          peacemakers alright

lying in front of the whole world!

          bastards

          • @shabaka: China and USA are doing this for a long time

            • @ntt: but China and USA aren't invading my homeland

if Putin entered this room right now I swear his secretary won't recognise his remains when I am done with him

even though I know he's just a puppet, the people who call the shots are never in the spotlight, he's just the hate magnet

              fkin bastards

              • @shabaka: sorry for your country but really, that's what big countries are doing to any weak and small country since day 1. They're all ahole

                • @ntt: at least Australia is different, it's not invading New Zealand, my other homeland

                  thanks for that, I guess

                  • @shabaka: ffs how many homelands you have? Australia and NZ are allied countries. Australian still put her hand on other small countries but not too bad like US and A, Russia and China.

                    • @ntt: well see Russia and Ukraine were sort of like allied countries too, and here we go

I am citizen of the world!

                      • @shabaka: Australia has higher ethic than those countries. Look at China and Vietnam situation, they're both commies but China always tries to eat Vietnam, for thousand years. But hey! we're talking about laptop and ozbaragain right?

                        • @ntt: Lol ask an indigenous Australian if they agree

pay attention that i7-11800h comes with a crap 45% NTSC panel:

    40.9 cm (16.1") diagonal, FHD (1920 x 1080), 144 Hz, IPS, micro-edge, anti-glare, 250 nits, 45% NTSC

Ryzen option with 3050Ti has a better panel:

    40.9 cm (16.1") diagonal, FHD (1920 x 1080), 144 Hz, 7 ms response time, IPS, micro-edge, anti-glare, Low Blue Light, 300 nits, 100% sRGB

Choose carefully, HP just randomly puts good and crap panels in Victus. Occasionally there is even an OMEN model with one. bastards

    • +1

Thank you! Ordered before I saw this, glad I cancelled.

    • Where did you see the details? Couldn't find it on their page

      • Specifications -> See more specs

      • another way to get display details easy is to add 2+ models to compare function on HP website and run the comparison, it shows detailed specs

  • IMO looks cheap. price and chassis wise

    • business laptop with gaming guts
      lower TGP's compared to OMEN
      not business laptop kind reliability
      meh keyboards

par for the course really. poor man's OMEN but not really close.

      • +1

i know asus is better than hp omen quality

        • to be honest I am not convinced OMEN has any quality in it after a recent experience

I never really touched asus, you think they're good? I've been through every other manufacturer in the past few months

          • +3

@shabaka: from my motherboard experience and other people s laptop i believe asus is top quailty from taiwan

            • +1

@ilove: These days Asus has the worst support out of all the brands I've seen, they often just return a faulty product without doing anything to it and claims it is fixed.

  • How's this HP quality compare the last cheap deal on that Acer Nitro?

    • Same Sh!t

    • worse…..

    • Depends on your use case. If we're talking gaming, then the Acer Nitro (with 3060) would be much better; around 50% better on average for the same price. The 3050 Ti struggles in some games due to its 4GB VRAM.

  • Does anyone happen to know the TGP of the 3050ti in this model?

  • +2

For those looking for a gaming laptop to buy right now, I can really recommend the nuc x15 laptops from this previous post:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/682825

Mine came the other day and I can vouch for the quality. Although it uses intel instead of ryzen, it has a large 94Wh battery which can get you some decent battery life.

    • How much battery are you actually getting?

      • -1

Depends what you're using for. If you turn to battery saver mode and just watching vids it's probs around 5hrs

        • +3

If you turn to battery saver mode and just watching vids it's probs around 5hrs

?? That's terrible battery life. I would expect 20 hours of battery life from a 94Wh battery playing videos in battery saver mode.

Heck, my 4 year old lenovo with a 45Wh battery does better than that.

    • Only trade-offs are that you'll need to buy an extra stick of RAM for Max performance, and doesn't have a mux switch.

    • +2

      It's nearly 30-40% more

      • it's also 3x faster in terms of GPU performance

        • +3

          it's definitely not x3 faster.
the difference would be barely noticeable

        • Where do you see 3x ? Which website did you use?

I saw on Techspot, it's only +20FPS increase from 60 to 80 on HZD, and +30fps from 35 to 65 on Cyberpunk

          • @Blitzfx: from techpowerup, a laptop 3070 is roughly equivalent to a desktop 3060ti

            • @jonahmvp: No, this is incorrect. It is around the same as a desktop 2070s, I own both a Kraken 3070 laptop and a 2070s, benchmarks within 5% of eachother.

              • @BigRiggs24: It all depends on the TDP, you can get shitty 80w ones or a much better 140w ones.

                • @raptormesh: I'm comparing to a 145w TDP 3070 mobile.

                  • -1

@BigRiggs24: Lol. There are a lot of factors: RAM, TDP etc. Point is 3070 mobile, 3060ti and 2070s are all in a similar ballpark. 3050ti is not. And I'd argue that the better screen, GPU, storage and overall build quality is worth the $700 premium, especially for gaming.

                    • @jonahmvp: According to userbenchmarks a 3080 laptop is about the same as a 3060ti, so a 3070 laptop will be about 15% behind.

                      • @raptormesh: Never use userbenchmarks, ever. They admitted they're biased and doubled down on it.
                        https://ownsnap.com/userbenchmark-is-not-trusted-by-tech-ent…

                        • -1

@Blitzfx: Won't be a popular comment here, but I don't get all the hate. It's not all about gaming. If you've used computers long enough you will know that single and quad core are at the moment the most important numbers for general usage. And if you do care about stuff that uses all cores no one is stopping you from checking those numbers. Sure it's far from perfect but for many things I find the tool invaluable

                          • +1

@digitizer: If they're reporting false numbers and using wrong testing methodology, like weighing 2-cores over 4 cores, they're going to come to wrong conclusions.
If every other credible tech site is saying a component is outputting a score of 80% or something, but for some reason userbenchmark is giving 95%, and you're using them as a gauge of value, then how will you compare against another component which is marginally better, say 10%?

Userbenchmark's variance is deliberately and ignorantly massive, and as a proven outlier in datapoints, should be thrown out

Besides, using them is implicitly supporting them and validating their objectively wrong testing results, and there are a lot of people who would incorrectly think they are reputable because they spent more time and money on SEO than learning the basics.

    • Sure, go Intel if you really don't care about portability. Makes a good desktop alternative.

  • any good for visual studio 2019 usage?

  • I'm tempted to buy it, I'm chewing through controllers and I only play Warzone.

I could probably get $700 for my ps5? I only paid $608 with GC

I buy heaps of games but never play anything but COD. Just seems like a waste when every 6 months one of the thumb sticks is screwed

I gather this GPU is weak? What fsp for cold? 60-90fps?

    • tbh i think you could probably get more than RRP for your ps5….

      • I'm not interested in making a profit, I already got it cheaper via Gift Cards.

I guess it depends if I'll be happy gaming on a laptop, vs the current 65" TV 😬

    • +1

$608, i would gladly pay that for a second hand PS5
but you could easily get RRP for it or even a bit more…

GPU is a Bit weak, i would aim for a 3060 for play Warzone at a decent performance & Also aim to have 32GB of ram instead of 16GB
from my findings, it can eat up to about 14gb for the game

    • You can plug a keyboard and mouse into the PS5 if you're want.. no need to spend $1000 on a laptop

      • I play via TV tho, I would have to buy a monitor.

I would like to try it tho, see if I enjoy it better via keyboard/mouse.

    • How are your controllers breaking every 6 months? Can't you just get it replaced/repaired under warranty?

  • +1

Obviously Acer nitro with 3060 was a better choice for gaming and $100 less. But this comes with double the RAM and much better CPU.
    2.5 kg as expected.

    • Nitro is 15", this is 16" :-)

    • The reason why I prefer a much better CPU, is because I could probably use the laptop to do music production as well

It would just be nice if I could play warzone on the same laptop.

I'll probably be getting a new controller from Sony, because it's under warranty but I feel like I'll be constantly following for warranty every 6 months until they say no more.

  • Does anyone know if it's pre calibrated? Need it to edit photos and print

    • i guess you will need to calibrate it in regards to your printer + screen.
how it could be calibrated without both of them?

    • +1

only hp zbooks come pre calibrated afaik

  • 4gb vram is chat

    • +2

      Chat?

      • total chat

  • That's a very good price for such a complete laptop. Any HP bloatware on there?

  • Does anyone know if you could run dual screens on this, either directly or via a USB-C dock such as this?

As an aside, it might be because I don't know exactly what to look for, but I always find it really to figure out if a particular laptop can do dual screens over USB-C or not :(

    • If you use a USB3 dock you can get dual displays, but the limited bandwidth means you will only get up to HDMI 1.4 resolutions for two displays (4k @ 30Hz).

If you want dual 4K60 from a USBC dock I think you need a thunderbolt 4 dock, and the Intel version of this laptop

      • Where does it say this in the specs? There is no mention of display out over usb on the page?

        • Sorry I stand corrected, from the specs section

1 SuperSpeed USB Type-C® 5Gbps signaling rate (DisplayPort™ 1.4, HP Sleep and Charge)

          • @TheAccountant: So for my knowledge, what is it from the above that tells you that it can do dual screen?

Is it just that any USB-C port that supports DP 1.4 automatically means that it can also do dual display over a suitable USB-C hub with dual display outputs?

            • @GreenGuava: I wasn't referring to driving 2 outputs, I was asking about driving a single monitor over usb c.

            • +1

@GreenGuava: You need a few things to do multiple displays over a single USB-C - the port has to have both Alt Mode and DisplayPort, and then either monitors that support MST (daisy-chaining), or an MST hub

    • +1

If you check the List of ports it has :
      * 1 SuperSpeed USB Type-C® 5Gbps signaling rate (DisplayPort™ 1.4, HP Sleep and Charge);
      * 1 HDMI 2.1;

So you should be able to display 2 external monitors
