I think this is a pretty good deal for an driver bit set with a few masonry drill bits thrown in.
Have not used it yet but I expect it to hit above its price point.

    They're bold statements..

"…but I expect it to hit above its price point".

It won't, it's a $27 set. The masonry bits are not tungsten carbide - they are plain steel. That's ok for the occasional DIY job, but will wear off quickly if you use them often.

I got a set of Bosch driver bits for a low price recently (Amazon too) and they are wearing out way faster than the regular Irwin you get at Bunnings. They are made of poor quality material.

It's a shame when brands release low quality tools banking on their good reputation, without clear difference between their "good tools" and their "crap tools". It makes it hard to identify when those good tools we like are offered at bargain prices.

Horses for courses. There are many people out there who just want to get a set for one job. These people may use their tools once and may not touch it again for months or years. Not everyone wants to pay 60-100 dollars for a starter drill/driver set so this is a good deal in my book and will last long enough for occasional DIYers. Obviously don't expect to build a full timber deck using this set. Don't think a 35pcs set is available at this price point anywhere. I think you're expecting too much from this price point. How much is a Irwin bit set from Bunnings?

It's easy to watch channels like Project Farm and focus too much on minor quality variances and overspend which may not matter too much to DIYers at the end of the day. Different story if you are intending on using them as a trade professional.

        That's correct.
It also means this is not "hitting above is price point" - saying that may mislead others.

        • +1

I still think it is. You can't get a 35pcs driver bit set for 27 bucks anywhere else.
If it's not hitting above its price point, then are you suggesting this is worth 27 bucks or less?
This is the lowest price it has ever been according to camelcamelcamel and ebay listings selling for $60

Just out of curiosity, which Bosch driver bit set did you buy from Amazon?
I think these will be a cut above the ever popular X-line or V-line, which doesn't even state what material the driver bits are made from.

Think people in that boat are far better off getting those Bosch combo kits that are popular here during the sales.

Heck literal once-off users are better off just buying a Craftright or Workzone kit.

I like how they include the PH2/PZ2 double-ended driver bit though. I've got a stash of PZ2 screws and the builders used a lot through the house like on all the door hinges.

    • Could you recommend a better set? I'm deliberating whether to get this or put in the extra $30-40 for my at-home DIY set.

      • Makita XPS range is regarded well

For DIY I'd get a cheap set from Bunnings. They are about $10 and get you covered.

Many many sets don't die because of poor quality, they die because you lose pieces. So a cheap set is better on that side too.

If you start wearing them off, you can start looking at more expensive stuff

The Drill bits are round not Hex, therefore not suitable for an Impact Driver?

    Hammer Drill - Yes.

    • you are right. I have edited the listing to remove the reference to "impact driver"
      These aren't impact rated.

      • The Amazon Description is a bit misleading as well. I may have accidentally bought it myself after a few beers.

        • The colour coded bits add to the confusion also.

      • Why would they sell bits that fit into an impact driver and have them not rated to be used in an impact driver? Are you saying I shouldn't get these if I am screwing into hardwood?

        • It will most likely be fine but they will be more prone to breaking if you are applying a huge amount of torque

          • @dji1111111: Yeah ok, I'll stick to the Irwin's and Sutton.
I've sheared through Ryobi impact bits with the wood in my house, I need the good stuff to survive

  • Not bad for an impact driver bit set, the 5 'masonry' bits will most likely be a pos though.

Great price for something with a case. Replace them 5 bits with something better or you'll most likely just waste a heap of time trying with those.

These don't look magnetic, annoying if not. I've got these bits and separate masonry bits.

Nothing wrong with the price. But extra hard concrete will be extra slow. If you have ever worked with sds there is no going back!

Can confirm any Bosch drill bit/driver kit will NOT hit above it price point. Expect to be disappointed, they are on point with Bunnings home brand.
