Verbatim DVD-R and +R Printable 50 Pack - $11.20 on Clearance at Woolworths
This was posted 1 year 24 days ago, and might be an out-dated deal
I picked these up on the 24th April at a Victorian Woolworths store.
I cannot confirm if this is nationwide and I couldn't get a photo of the clearance tag.
The DVD-R (http://www.verbatim.com.au/en_AU/products/bluray-dvd-cd--dvd...) are MCC 03RG20 (http://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia/verbatim-dvd-r-mcc-03rg20-...).
The DVD+R (http://www.verbatim.com.au/en_AU/products/bluray-dvd-cd--dvd...) are MCC…..004 (http://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia/verbatim-dvd-r-mcc-004-16/...).
For those who don't know what this means, it describes the manufacturer and media production method (Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation), and these are very good!
MSY have these for $18, and the cheapest on staticice is $16.

bargainjargon on 25/04/2012 - 11:45 ¶I love the Verbatim DVD+R discs, very reliable. I gotta get me some of this. Hopefully the local Woolies has it. THANKS! :)

+3 voteshttp://www.jpldisplays.com.au/catalog/index.php?cPath=23 is where I used to buy mine…..
There are a lot of TY fakes about…. so be careful

I never heard of this brand Taiyo Yuden. But they do appear to have the best quality for archives,so will get some…
I now mainly use hard drives for my storage, especially for photos/home video as dvd's are just not big enough.
BUT Should I go back to dvd's for backup as they may be better? (just time consuming and inconvenient…?
+1 voteThe difference between MCC and TYG is as near as makes no difference. Often it's simply the drive that will favour one media over another in jitter tests, access times and burst rates.
See this in-depth review: http://www.cdrinfo.com/sections/reviews/Print.aspx?ArticleId...
One drive has Taiyo Yuden decisively besting MCC, another drive has it completely the opposite.
The only really noticeable trend is that TYG is still stable and offers good burn quality even when pushed beyond 16x (but anyone who actually writes to media at above 16x is rather ill-informed to begin with).Certain stand-alone players can be slightly finicky about accepting TYG as well.
The only real difference between TYG and MCC (as long they're genuine) is that MCC can come from 4 different plants so you are slightly more predisposed to getting a bad batch as opposed to TYG which should be Japanese or Taiwanese, but that's offset by the ridiculously low price and widespread availability of Verbatim media these days.
+2 votesRitek? Come back in 1-2 years and see how much of your data is still readable. It's the worst brand you could possibly buy. Well, there is always Princo and other cheapies which are way worse.
Sony are hit n miss. Some batches are great. Some not.
Verbatims are my number 2 choice. Like others have said, Taiyo Yuden's are the best you can get, but only if you get authentic ones. So, if you can't get TY's, Verbatims are the next best thing.

The fact that you're asking if Verbatim are a reputable optical media brand suggest you don't really know enough to distinguish the differences in quality.
This might be a handy guide: http://www.digitalfaq.com/reviews/dvd-media.htm
Sony stopped making their own media in 2010 and have since gone downhill in reliability.

greenpossum on 26/04/2012 - 20:08 ¶Maybe you need a different sharpie? My green one works fine, although not as pretty, as you say, due to the surface.
greenpossum on 26/04/2012 - 22:05 ¶Maybe the store marked down wrongly in your favour or they keyed in the discount rather than the price?

Photo of the disks and clearance tags.
Looks like an error has been made because the 25 pack DVD+R are $10.19, save $6.80, whereas the 25 pack DVD-R are $6.80, save $10.19…
