Kickstarter eufy Video Doorbell Lock

Hello everyone,

Never used kickstarter before but interested in this deal. Any thoughts if it's real or scam?

Why would such a big company needs crowd funding?

  • It's always better to use someone else's money.

    • So not a scam? Crowd funding is Just for minimising the risk I guess.

      • If they fail to deliver a product there's no promise you get any of your money back, just keep that in mind.

I've backed several kickstarters and completely lost my money on one. Plus they tend to all be so late on delivery that someone else has a better product out on the market before them. I find it's only useful to be first in line for a branded product (i.e. the Witcher board game, definitely going to be hard to get on release but will have a high likelihood of delivery)

If it's legit Eufy then no, it's not a scam. Anything on Kickstarter though isn't a purchase. You're backing the development of a product and typically rewarded with that product. If something happens and it doesn't go ahead or fails for any reason you don't get your money back. I stopped using Kickstarter as there were too many projects that were scams. They'd release highly polished videos and info, collect the money then disappear but established companies should be much risk (though also go against the spirit of crowdfunding IMO).

  • Just like everything on Kickstarter… Use your money expecting it to be lost, but hopeful that a package might turn up on your door one day

  • Issue with this would be some delivery ppl wouldn't know it's a door bell. They probably think it just a another electronic door lock.

The official Eufy app has a link to this and their kickstarter page. I don’t think it would be a scam.

Basically just an easy way for a company to get forward orders without having to take out a loan w/interest in order to raise capital.

With someone like EUFY you'd expect them to deliver.

  • The battery in this unit looks to be the same as the one in the current Eufy smart lock. We have both the wireless video doorbell and smart lock as 2 separate devices with 2 batteries. Trying to run both functions off one battery may seem like a good idea until you realise you have to charge the battery twice as often?

I'd rather just use my key and save my money for something useful…

Let other people take the risk, buy it when it shows up in your local electronics store.

Not a fan of large companies using Kickstarter to fund product R&D, but if people are willing to put their money in, that's up to them.

  • They haven't charged you anything until the product will be introduced so don't say that they used someone 's money

  • Having the normal Eufy wireless video door bell & cameras, I hope it has a better battery/life than those.

Having said that they are real as they did this with their security cameras before they came to JB and the likes. Being a now built company an a part of Anker I don't know why they need money.
