Anyone Else Having Trouble with Kayo on Samsung Smart TV?

I have 2 TVs - a Sony Android TV and a Samsung. Kayo works perfectly on the Sony using the Android app and on computers and phones.

On the Samsung however it works 20% of the time - menus etc always work fine but when starting to stream it gives "media playback error". Occasionally it works. This only started a few months ago - I have had the TV for a few years and before that it was fine

It is not my network - I have tried wireless + wired. I have also uninstalled and reinstalled the app, left TV powered off etc. etc. And it works perfectly on the Sony TV and other devices in the house. Other streaming apps on the Samsung seem to work fine.

Anyone else see similar?

Thanks

  • I've only used it for the women's world cup because I'm too cheap to buy a subscription but I haven't had any issues.

I had a 2016 KS8000 series Samsung do that with half my apps all the time and the only way was holding the power button until it did a soft reboot that fixed it some of the times, there's not much you can do as the app developers blame Samsung and vice versa

I moved to an LG OLED and never had an issue

    Hey,

Yeah I've been having this issue too.

The only sort of work around I've been able to do is if the media playback error pops up I alternate between playing from live and playing from start quickly. Like I'll press play from live then play from start.

After about 5-6 tries this seems to start the stream.

    Hope this helps.

  • Paying for software that doesn't work.

Just look at that innovation go. We are so much better off.

What are you talking about lol

Try factory reset. But my friends also had issues with their Kayo on Samsung.

I have a Samsung 2021 50" and it has so many software glitches, it's unbearable.
Definitely looking to get a Sony or LG next time.

  • Thanks for the replies, seems like I am not alone.
My current workaround is chromecast, which I guess I will have to stick with

Since I have had the Sony I have decided I will never buy another TV again that doesn't run Android - it is so good having access to so many apps for everything

  • Yep, same issue. Factory resets don't work, the only workaround is what hussey25 described above.

The issue isn't with Samsung, it is Kayo and their shitty app.

  • I had this issue on my Samsung MU7000. In the end I gave up with the crappy Samsung Kayo app and bought a Shield TV Pro. Kayo runs without issue on that.

  • Same issue. Used to be fine.
My solution is to turn the TV off at the wall for 5 seconds, then back on again. Fixes it every time. Must be an app caching problem.

  • I had this issue, then it morphed into Netflix not working either. If I hot spotted my phone to the Samsung, everything worked, so it made me think it's an Internet NBN issue talking to the Samsung. After a plethora of research on Samsung Smart TV issues with apps from users all over the world, and trying all their fixes, and none working, I changed my NBN provider from Mate to Superloop and boom, fixed straight away.

Have had endless problems with trying to get Kayo to play on my Samsung TV. Yet my son has no problems AT ALL on his cheaper Kogan TV. Not buying a Samsung TV again. They need to fix whatever is causing the problem. It is definitely not my internet connection or Kayo.

According to Kayo it is Samsung's problem. Can't say I've had this issue on any other device either. So annoying!

  • I had this same issue for the last 3 days, Kayo even told me my TV wasnt available for Kayo, even though my TV comes with Kayo as a preloaded app.
Long story short, I spent the last hour on chat with Samsung support, and they were able to fix.

They had me go to IP settings on TV, and changed my DNS setting to 8.8.8.8

Restarted my router, and presto, its working again.

Hopefully this may be able to help someone else, as well.

    • Great find… Had issues for months finally tried this and seems much better. Even the UI works quicker

  • I've had a lot of trouble and tried the suggestions above without success. Then I tried changing the DNS setting and resetting the router, as per what Ambi said - and it worked!

  • Check your 5G connection is not on the 2.4Ghz band. Change it to 5Ghz and it will be fine. You may have to select a different channel. Il.had this problem for nearly 12 months when i changed mine from 5 to 2 4 to get the chromecast working in another room. Changed it back a couple of weeks ago and Kayo works fine on my Samsung tv now
