Foxtel Now Ultimate $49/Month (Normally $104) for 12 Months @ Foxtel | Foxtel Now Box $30 + Shipping (Free with First) @ Kogan

350

Toofa on currently, not sure if it's just Foxtel in it's death throws but currently really good value (for Foxtel at least)

For me I've missed the History channel bad since I kicked Foxtel to the curb years ago, plus it's Footy season!!!!

Foxtel Go streaming Ultimate package (every channel) is currently $49 a month for 12 months, they have some other package specials on but none are worth getting

Im getting a Foxtel Go login error on my Nvidia shield because I've had a Go trial account registered on the shield before when I had Foxtel previously. Can't use a box you have used before on the same Foxtel account (oh Foxtel) so I started looking around for alternative's.

Koogan and Dick Smith curreltly have the Foxtel Now Box (Netflix Compatible) (C027) for $29.99 plus shipping

https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/foxtel-now-box-netflix-compatib…
$29.99

I had a dig online and this box is remarkable value @ $29

It's Android TV OS with Play store not cheapie Android box, also has a built in DVB tuner for free to Air stations

You need a Foxtel go account (and a google account) to setup but after this can be used as a Android TV/DVBtuner box without foxtel account

Foxtel Go allows up to 2 simultaneous devices (so I bought 2 of the Go boxes)

Foxtel fine print: Foxtel Now standard monthly pricing applies at the end of the 12 month offer period (currently: $55/mth for Movies Plus; $64/mth for Sports Plus; $84/mth for Sports + Movies; $104/mth for Ultimate) unless you change your pack or cancel before the end of the offer period.

$104 a month? I see Foxtel haven't changed at all.

    • +8

Amazon Prime free 12 months via optus, then 12 months via agl.

Binge free on OzB using code last week.

Amount of money paid to Rupert Murdoch = $0. Happy OzBargainer!

(Closest I get to a flex, I skip chest leg and back day!)

On the plus side, your abs are huge!

      • Look, I got Amazon but on their Prime there is not much to watch. If not for the free shipping….

5 devices kills it. (and certainly doesn't fulfill any definition of 'ultimate')
Assuming you don't mind throwing money at the world's most evil person, most households these days have a couple of smart TVs at least, maybe 3 or 4 devices like FireSticks/Chromecasts, quite probably a couple of Blurays or PVRs with streaming clients, plus the apps on every household member's phones.

I remember going through this BS with Presto. They counted the phone and the chromecast as two devices.

      • +2

Maybe it is 5 actively streaming services? That seems more than enough for a household.

        • +1

Not if it's the way Foxtel usually enumerate them.
Plenty of households have 4 kids or more. It's not that hard to have more than 5 active sessions. And how sessions are determined can vary.

        • Nah, only 2 actively streaming.

      • -1

        The world's most evil person?
I imagine there are a few challengers for that title - and would depend quite a bit on where you live.
For Ukrainians right now I could hazard a guess at their pick.
        Uighurs someone else.
        Palestinians someone else again.
In fact, I seriously doubt an Australian/American would even make the top ten for most of the world - but most of the world actually have real issues to confront.

        • -1

The death of our media and the subsequent disadvantage and corruption it has brought aren't 'real issues' to you?

          • -1

@arcticmonkey: Firstly, the 'death' of our media? Hyperbole much? How many media outlets have died? I read at least three each day - only one of which is connected with Murdoch.
Secondly, even if there is such a thing, it is not nearly as 'real' as being massacred.

            • @Almost Banned: You only need to control the most influential outlets. Doesn't matter if there a million others around. Around five people control media across the globe and they are all in the same country with the same political leaning. Murdoch is one of the most influential of that group.

              • @[Deactivated]: Same political leaning?
                Have you read news.com.au?
Do you genuinely think it has the same editorial slant as Fox News?

Out of interest for my parents who insist on keeping a Foxtel subscription, if they switched over to this:

      • Is there any cheap device that can give them a similar experience to a Foxtel box? ie connects to a dumb TV, uses a IR/RF remote not a touch screen to change channels.

      • I assume there's no way to record anything, so everything has to be watched live, including ads? Nothing can be time shifted.

      • Chromecast with Google TV. The Foxtel app looks great and works well on mine. No recording or downloading unfortunately https://store.google.com/au/product/chromecast_google_tv?hl=… $89

        • Chromecast with Google TV.

Do Chromecasts come with remotes now?

        • But would I be correct most, if not all, shows can be watched on demand?

Ie. this allows you to stream the live channels, but also watch any content you want at anytime, Netflix style?

Edit: Pilchard beat me to it.

          • +2

@tomsco: They generally go though the planner for the night at around 5pm and record everything they want for the night. They hate the ads and can't stand watching them.

So while the remotes on the new gen of Chromecast should be workable, I think they'll still have an issue with recording FTA and fast forwarding ads on non-movie Foxtel channels.

Like I said, they are in their late 70s and not really up to learning apps on a new smart TV (theirs is circa 2004), tablet, or phone. So their current Foxtel box (a series 2 btw) looks like it'll have to stick around.

I appreciate the suggestions WrightRightWriteRite, tomsco and pilchard.

I assume there's no way to record anything, so everything has to be watched live, including ads? Nothing can be time shifted.

Everything is also available on demand. For sports, it varies how long after a live event ends before they add it on demand though (but usually within a few hours).

Your parents can probably try it out now, as it's most likely already included as part of their current subscription.

        • Everything is also available on demand

They watch FTA recorded on their Foxtel box so they can FF the ads. They don't have a seperate FTA box that records FTA.

Your parents can probably try it out now

Nope. They don't have smartphone or tablets so I'd have to get them a new media device. They have PCs, but not in the same room as the TVs.

      • The Foxtel now box integrates FTA and Foxtel channels nicely.

      • +1

Foxtel Now Box comes with a Bluetooth remote and works nicely with the live channels which can be paused. It's the only way to watch without ads, and if you miss anything everything is on demand anyway. The box also has Chromecast built in.

Otherwise you get bombarded with 30 sec unskippable ads before each stream using the Foxtel Go app or via Chromecast - yes, even if you cast to the Foxtel Now Box using the app.

Plus the Foxtel Now Box is the only way to get surround sound, Foxtel only outputs stereo through the Go app or via Chromecast.

Highly recommended if you're locked into Foxtel. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/689758

Hey Mods, I'm not associated with Foxtel

      • +8

That's exactly what Rupert would have said.

      • +1

It’s not like the associated box would tick itself.

        • Looks like it unticked itself

    • +1

Still can’t record live tv? IPTV providers in the US allow recording. Foxtel so backwards.

    • Pass.

    • +3

Each to there own, but imagine paying $45/month and still getting ads.

    • Just had 3 months for $25pm, would rather it at that price

    • No box needed, stream everything

How do you record anything the avoid the ads?

    • Couldn’t you get Netflix, kayo, prime, stan and binge for less? Practically the same stuff maybe a bit extra for paramount and Disney but with offers and gift card boners you can surely get more for less than this Foxtel “deal”

      • +1

        Gift card boners ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

    • I watch docos and that's why I got the fetch box.

The second-hand/refurbished device cost me $200 but it seems it pays itself off for the long run compared to this. I am now paying $6 for docos.

I wonder how many spend $1000 monthly for cigarettes without whinging so much about tv costs

    • I am still wondering, how foxtel survives with such a high subscription fees!

    • $49/mth and still a rip off :(

      • Sounds like you can't afford it. That's different to something being a rip-off

    • Boy i hope the AFL signs with 10/paramount or another OTT service. cannot wait to tell them to stick it.
