What is Ethanol
Ethanol is a clear, colourless, flammable liquid. Ethanol and ethanol blends are used in a variety of applications including automotive power, transport, aviation and of course, heating. Ethanol is widely used in the manufacture of perfumes and varnishes; in the preparation of many flavourings and essences and in the production of many medicines and drugs.

Why Ethanol
Ethanol is a clean, convenient, safe and easy to use fuel, suitable for use in today’s modern ethanol fireplaces. Ethanol’s stable burning characteristics, heat output, and low odour make it a great fuel for use in ethanol fires; where both heat and a real flame are desired to create the look and feel of a real fire without the mess or hassle of traditional forms of fireplaces.

Why Viofuel
VioFuel Ethanol Fire Fuel is designed and recommended for use in most Ethanol fireplaces. It burns with a beautiful yellow flame and is scented with a gentle aromatic fragrance.

Warning
Never use any other type of fuel or blended Ethanol in an Ethanol fireplace. Only use fuels recommended for use by the manufacturer and never, ever use petrol, kerosene, turpentine.

Remember, these other fuels are highly volatile and are not suitable for use in an ethanol fireplace. Use of these fuels in an ethanol fireplace is extremely dangerous.

Read the appliance manufacturer’s instructions before filling or using.

Always provide adequate ventilation where the appliance is used.

Time to make my own e10?!

  • Really?

  • +5

You know the world it's fked when OZB'ers are making fuel at home.

  • +2

How does this taste with lemon cordial? er asking for a friend.

  • Be cheaper to suck the ethanol out of e10 and make regular petrol for profit.

  • Is this 100% ethanol? Can you use it to make spirits?

    • While ethanol is consumed when drinking alcoholic beverages, consuming ethanol alone can cause coma and death. Ethanol may also be a carcinogenic; studies are still being done to determine this. However, ethanol is a toxic chemical and should be treated and handled as such, whether at work or in the home.

      • Ethanol may also be a carcinogenic

Does that mean the fumes given off a fancy flicker-flame fire may also be sus?

      • +3

You can just water 100% ethanol down 2:1. The issue here is that it'll have a denaturing agent in it.

    • Seem they don't want you to drink it. I know some people drink it, but better make sure it is pure ethanol.

From the Black and Stone website

    What is a Denaturant
Ethanol is a pure alcohol. A denaturant is added to prevent the liquid being used in beverages for human consumption.

Any ehtanol sold to a person not having a license to buy untaxed ethanol will either be taxed or have a denaturing agent added.

    • I do wonder if something like an air still could strip the denaturant out - if so, potentially a ripper deal.

      • +1

You'd need to water it down to about 20% to avoid fumes building up, and then distill 100L of the stuff. Seems to me anyone with a still can just get some turboyeast, potatoes and sugar and DIY even cheaper.

          Thanks for the reply!

6 kilos of sugar, 250 grams tomato paste, 70 grams of yeast, 25 liters of water is cheaper though.

    • +1

That might yield 2.5 litres if you are lucky.

      • 4.

        • Of 100%? No way

          • @Buyingcrap: Nah, But still burnable … Cant get 100%. Ever.!

I love that we now have experts in home ethanol production debating yields 🤣

They don't call us professionals for nothing!

  • They need a shipping calculator to make this a worthwhile deal for anyone who isn't picking up.

Or pay $3 more to Sydney Solvents and use their shipping calculator ($15 most places I tried) or pick up in Penrith.

Also glad this is cheaper than Isopropyl. Going to buy one of these 20 litre jugs next for cleaning up resin prints.

    • Hi @Abaddon, shipping to NSW is $24.94 (incl gst) for 1 container. Call us at 03 8566 7660 when you want to place the order. Thank you.
