Will 4G Mobile Be Able to Handle Zoom Video Calls?

Hi all, I'll be in Aus for 3 weeks and will continue to work remotely. Will 4G mobile data be good enough to handle zoom meetings, both video and voice only? Or should I be buying a 5G phone and hotspotting a 5G prepaid plan?

Comments

  • Depends on how much you zoom I guess

  • If you live right next to 4g tower then 4g is more than capable of handling zoom call as long as the link being used is not congested.

  • I sometimes 4g zoom when im out for a walk. It works fine.

    Its really going to depend on how good the signal is where you are staying. Where are you staying? A lot of places will include wifi.

    Generally Telstra network is fastest but if its 4g you can just buy boost prepaid I think as its the same 4g network.

  • I used to use this 4G Optus internet:

    I don't remember the download speed but when everything's all good its worked great and never had a problem with video calls (Zoom/Teams/Skype) though I never did much cams myself.
    When I did have an issue was when congestion was too much (bigger issue before covid) or they're working on the mobile tower knocking internet out for a while and dropping me to 3G. Also got to confirm you get good coverage as well, as it can change internet speed quite a bit.

    4G will be fast enough for zoom calls. In fact 4G is comparable or faster than the average home internet plan

    Depends on your network coverage. 4G itself is capable enough to run zoom videos, infact 4G is capable of doing Netflix FHD too, so why not zoom.

  • Zoom on a 4G phone is good so long as you have good reception, but if you do not then it will stutter and drop.

    Nothing wrong with 4G for this purpose.

    4G is fine but depends on the coverage/congestion.

  • Summarising the other comments: it depends (location and chosen provider's network)

    And the same caveats apply to 5G, so unfortunately for you there is no certain answer.

  • Just did a test. I live in south Canberra.

    The house is relatively small, has a mesh setup and where I tested was about 4m from the modem. The broadband is well and truly up to video conferencing.

    Broadband;
    21.3gb down.
    12.7 up.

    4G on Amaysim;
    30.6 down.
    15.4 up.

    Hope this is of some use to you.
