      Those prices are rip offs

      MEL - SYD = 60,000 points = $1,404

      • +3

Sure, however when you can purchase 250,000 points for $4095 (~1.6c per point) - that's a pretty good deal

Most recent discounted offers on point purchases (source) have been for 15%-20% off (this one is up to 30% off)

      • How does Mel - Syd cost 60,000 points?

        • -2

Via search on their website for a flight this weekend.

          • +2

@jv: I see. That would be for an 'Any Seat' fare. An Economy Reward seat from Sydney to Melbourne is usually 13,700 points all-inclusive.

            • -2

@shake: The fares for the flight I searched for were 60,000 points. No other fares were available…

$1,404 Mel to Syd one way is no bargain…

              • +1

                @jv: I don't disagree, that's insanely expensive.

But it's pretty obvious that this would be a very poor use of your Velocity points, and it doesn't necessarily make this post a bad deal.

                • @shake:

and it doesn't necessarily make this post a bad deal.

I can't find any examples where this would be a bargain.

How much would the cheapest MEL to SYD cost in points? and compare that to cheap fares you can pay with cash.

                  • @jv: I can't find any examples where this would be a bargain.

Perhaps a Business class seat, around-the-world type ticket?
You can purchase 250,000 points at 30% off rather than churning credit cards/buying from others (against T&Cs)

  • expensive! not reasonable but….some may save a little

    • some may save a little

or more likely to end up paying a lot more for the same ticket…
