I got around 60 hue items and lifx strips as well as some cheapies. The cheapies usually have a hard time doing both colour AND white. After playing with a few cheap LED strips like meross, govee, kogan and kmart ones, I settled on the kogan ones however have had to get 2 replaced under warranty upon opening as they seem to have a loose connection and any bending will result in a portion turning off. The govee immersion for the tv is also great but can't to white either. I assume their normal strips would be good too. If you just want pure white (warm and cool) without wifi, they get a lot cheaper too.

I have no doubt the hues would be great but when you need 5m lengths and 4 locations it becomes expensive. The lifx was really good as well.

    • Where did you get the Govee lights from? What do you think of them?

      • Thanks for the useful feedback @jasontworld.

      • I have the Govee TV light strip. It's awesome. Far cheaper than the Philips option and works great.
        I grabbed it on Amazon

        • Govee on Amazon
Last I checked the immersions were out of stock

    • Have you tried any of the individually addressable light strips on Amazon? Also how does the Kogan strips handle light and colour compared to the rest?

      • I found the meross on Amazon too weak. This was a RGB.

Kogan beats it easy for brightness and includes RGBW so you get warm white. They run on Tuya so it's nice and easy.

Returned my meross, threw away my kmarts. Kmart beats meross for brightness, but again can't do white as RGB only.

The govee tv strips are bright but again don't do white but are individually addressable as they're like the hue tv unit but uses a camera instead. Works well for movies and games and don't need to worry about some DRM protected content not feeding through my the hdmi box

Lifx is the best ones I have and have RGBW and reliable app etc.

  • Does this come with multiple power adapters or just a UK or Euro one? How easy is it to get an Australian adapter if it isn't in the box?

  • Will the UK ones come with an AU plug adapter? It's not the end of the world if it doesn't, but obviously a lot neater if there's one in there.

    Edit: @lint - snap!

  • Is this not the same but ships from Aus and cheaper? - https://www.amazon.com.au/Philips-Hue-LightStrip-Dimmable-Sm…

The UK one is gradient, meaning it can do multiple colours at the same time. The one you linked can only do a single colour at a time.

      • ah ok..thanks for the clarification

    • Gradient has more LEDs per inch and is frosted so it’s more pleasant to look at directly. With previous generation Lightstrip in your link, you’d want to hide it so that you can only see reflection off the wall, which would make light seem more uniform.

The 'regular' lightstrip has also been reduced.

$97 w/prime. It's been a bit cheaper from Amazon AU in the past, but not often.
