Waiting for the clueless comments on how this is overpriced and they can get a message gun 1/4 of the price.

Theragun really is a class of its own, I got the G3 from the Kogan deal and it's was one of the best purchase I made in the pass few years. This one if not mistaken falls between the G3 and G4, reasonable price IMO.

Note the so call quiet motor is really not so quiet, you need such a strong motor to delivery the kind of power from a Theragun. A quiet and powerful massage gun doesn't exist!

    • I tried a friends cheapie generic Thera+ ($100). I thought the impact and power was decent for the price. It felt great on muscles. It needed me to apply pressure, and it would regularly stop (as I presume the pressure got too high).

I did some review research and saw similar views to yours, that the generics don’t have anywhere near the impact as the Theragyn, plus I’ve seen the same comment here on ozbargain for 2 years. People saying “the cheap ones feel like cheap toys”.

I’m tempted on this. I’ve had an ozbargain alert on.

My only hesitation, is I started searching for the scientific research on benefits of impact massagers like the theragun. I couldn’t find a lot.

But, boy did that cheap one feel good regardless.

The two most important things you need to consider in a percussive massager is Amplitude and Stall Force.

Amplitude is how far the head travels, these theraguns for example move 16mm, most cheap massagers are only 8-10. The higher amplitude means each impact has more wind up and can impart more force per stroke.

Stall force is how hard you can press on to the head before the motor stalls, the higher the stall force the harder you can push into the muscle, the deeper you can massage. This theragun has 40 pounds, the theragun pro has 60 pounds, most Amazon specials have 30-ish pounds.

Combine a low stall force with a low amplitude, and you end up with something that basically just vibrates the muscle; not a bad thing if you want a low-impact muscle relaxer, but not even a tenth as effective as a proper percussion massager for muscle recovery.

You'll notice a lot of the cheap massagers put huge emphasis on RPM, which is actually the least important metric compared to the other two I've described. Think about this; a good masseuse's hands have an rpm of what, maybe 30 if they're using your muscle like a speed bag, practically zero if they're giving you a deep pressure recovery massage. A good percussive massager should act like a more effecient version of that masseuse, so speed is the least important aspect.

I will say this though, get one of each. Buy a cheap, quiet, vibration massager for when you're zoned out on the couch and just wanna relax your muscles while watching TV, then get a more expensive and higher quality percussive massager for pre and post workout massages, or if you have a particularly problematic area that needs massaging. I currently have an injury in my ankle tendons that require daily stretching and massaging of the calf muscles, and I find that if I hit it hard with the theragun right in the morning and after I get home from work, then just before bed give it a gentle going-over with the cheapo massager, it seems to work better than using only one or the other. For instance; I bought the cheap gun first, and I found that using it alone actually caused more issues for me because of the low amplitude, I was having to press it deeper into the muscles of my leg, which being so close to the bone meant it was bruising much more than "floating" a high-amp theragun over it; its what prompted me to actually do my research into percussive guns and the difference between cheap and expensive. But your mileage may vary, and the best thing if you're worried is speak to a professional to get a proper plan of attack for any problematic areas. For instance I bought the cheap gun first, and I found that using it alone actually caused more issues for me because of the low amplitude, I was having to press it deeper into the muscles of my leg, which being so close to the bone meant it was bruising much more than "floating" a high-amp theragun over it; its what prompted me to actually do my research

        • Interesting. Thanks for the detailed response.

I think with the cheap Thera+ one I was trying, I was pushing it pretty hard at times. Which might have been similar to what you said with bruising. It felt nice, but there was a residual discomfort.

I might try buy a more expensive Theragun for the quality Amplitude and Stall Force and see how I go.

I agree its a great gun but it isn't really in a class of its own. The Achedaway Pro is better in every category

      80lbs stall force
      16mm amplitude
      Cheaper and quieter

You can get it here for $329+ shipping atm, not sure of its regular price

Here's a half decent review of the Theragun vs Achedaway Pro from a couple that has them both
      https://youtu.be/2lCNRS4DND8

      • Interesting. This sounds compelling. Especially being quieter.

        • Yes definitely, am going to purchase one when I have the funds

      • Thanks for commenting and suggesting the achedaway. The quietness sold me.

I just ordered on Amazon for $369. The seller said I can do 2 weeks change of mind return (used) at no cost. After that (for unknown period, I presume 1 month). It’s a $50 restocking fee.

        • +1

No worries mate, let me know how it goes and what you think of it, im not surprised the seller would offer that as it seems to be a great machine and if its in good working order i doubt you'll be returning it. Careful of Amazon delivery drivers though, I just bought the headrush mx5 guitar module of there and it came today, the guy pretty much launched it at the door. Seems to be OK though

          • @coldpiee: Yeah sure, feel free to ping me if I don’t remember.

            • @CafeNervosa: Whats the verdict mate? Looks like this is the cheaper option as well

              • @R-Man: I haven’t got it yet. It might arrive Friday or next week.

              • @R-Man: I’m quite happy with the Achedaway Pro.

Quiet powerful, it has met my expectations.

YouTube has a few good reviews for more details.

I bought a theragun elite from the last sale posted on here.

Arrived dead in the box ane wouldn't charge at all. The store refunded me and said they had many people also return them due to the same.

Seems to be a common problem, with many people reporting the same issue online and other saying their batteries die within a year.

For a product that is supposed to be the flagship brand on the market - that is abysmal QC. How do you let so many slip through that don't even turn on?

The specs on the theragun might be better, and perhaps they do feel better (I didn't get to find out). However, they're clearly overpriced and you're paying for their marketing. The quality isn't there to justify the price they ask.

  • Damn, just bought one from Bing Lee for 448

    Is this Australian stock?
What’s Theragun like with warranty here in Australia?

    • +1

      Hmm good point, holding fire

    • Service and warranty doesn’t look a strong point for Theragun. Not great reviews on the Amazon USA or AU for when people have issues. Great reviews for when it works.

      Theragun Elite Amazon AU
      Theragun Elite Amazon USA

People saying they’re glad they purchased from Amazon for an easy return. Issues with charging, and others.
This retail company Style Runner doesn’t have brilliant reviews. Probably fine, but maybe not for a product like Theragun.

$400-$600 for a product like this I expect pretty great service and quality.
I think I’m going to wait until Amazon or a decent retailer has the prime or elite on sale.

    • Theragun Prime on Amazon AU for $399

3rd party seller, Amazon managed. This listing came up through google for me, but when searching Amazon.com.au. The listing on Amazon.com.au was $560 odd

    • +2

It does look like AU stock going off the SKU
      ELITE-PKG-WHT-AU-WHITE

I ordered a white a month ago and lodged a warranty claim on a Dead on Arrival Elite (Battery) , the process in itself was simple. Log a claim with Therabody directly, wait for approval and then receive a return postage label.

The only issue I had was the 2nd white replacement unit was also D.O.A. Now they didn't have any white replacement units available until after May so they sent me a Black replacement instead, but onto the 3rd its actually working and I have no issues now.

You'll have to wait for the customer service team to start at BST time, so the end of our day here.

I have one of these. Used Qantas points when they had a 40% off sale a while ago. :) Wife and I really like it. $400 seems decent.

    Pros:
Warms up the area really well before exercise, so you don't need to use stinky deep heat stuff.
    Easy to use, ergonomic.
Helps with restless legs before bed.
    Seems well built.
    Good power.

    Cons:
Still makes noise, but not deafening. Wouldn't use it if there was someone trying to sleep in next room though.
I don't get anywhere near 120 mins of use. Maybe half that or less. Still no problem for us though.
Battery indicator makes it hard to tell just how close it is to empty. You can connect to your phone with Bluetooth and open the app for an actual % remaining, but I'm too lazy for that! Also shows exact % when you plug it in to the AC charger.

    Tip:
Work out what head attachment you like best for big areas (back, legs), then buy the double head attachment, and then another one of the head you like. It makes things a lot quicker. Works great if you have someone to run up and down your spine (the attachment sits nicely either side of the spine). But yes, it costs $ (around $70 for both I think). The double head wobbles a tad, so it makes it noisier.

  • I have a cheaper ($50) massage gun and no idea what a $400 one could do differently.

    • Hit you harder, faster.

  • OOS?

  • Unfortunately mine arrived DOA. Doesn't charge > 0%

  • So my Stylerunner one also came DoA and they kindly gave me a refund.
I have subsequently attempted to buy 2 more on Amazon which both came DoA… I'm starting to think they don't have any version of the Theragun that actually works…

    • In addition to my update above, I noticed the transaction was pending but after a while never showed up on my CC. Looks like they had issues with their merchant. Anyway, after the refund was sorted I thought they'd never bother debit/credit. However, after two weeks they just charged & sent me an email to justify it due to "system error". Even after all the other emails where I'd receive a full refund due it being DOA. Shambles…. Person following the process that sent me the email is a bit of a system error itself.

yeah after I saw mine was DOA, I saw a lot on reddit. It's a bit odd though, battery degradation while in inventory? Known DOA units that were returned, poorly/not repaired and sent back out to retailers for a quick dollar? Ha

    • I went through the DOA process with Therabody rather than getting a refund from Stylerunner. Just received my replacement unit this week and it’s working fine now. Came out of the box with 33% charge.
