    Buy or skip?

    • Yer I’m wanting to know too

    • +9

Skip because game backlog is too long. Buy because it's cheap… well not as expensive as RRP….

    • +7

Haven't played it but from reviews it seems like a typical half assed Nintendo game.

      • +1

They have added a bit more since launch, however its no GBC/GBA Mario Golf

      • +4

The original GBC game was the absolute ducks nuts, as was the original GBC Mario Tennis. Everything that they did back then was AAA quality. They've been rolling their arm over ever since.

Its a bit concerning really, Nintendo are selling kebabloads of Switches, but a lot of it is trading on nostalgia. There have been hardly any original IPs this generation. Or even a new twist on an old franchise.

        • True, most of their best selling games have been remastered old games or ‘Deluxe Editions’

            • @dano: 2 of the top 3 ;)

              • @[Deactivated]: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, definitely, but I wouldn't put Smash Ultimate in that same category.

                • @dano: Smash added a sky high pile of content but it’s built onto the WiiU game. In my opinion it’s another Deluxe but I understand your opinion.

                  • @[Deactivated]: But it's not built on to the Wii U game

Digital Foundry debunked that soon after release.

Skip. Pretty average as a couch multiplayer game. Wouldn't pay more than $20 if we were to buy it again.

      • +1

Thank you for saving my empty wallet :)

    • +1

Skip. Mario Golf 64 is tonnes better if you have the switch online

    • +2

      It depends. I’d say skip.

Im a massive fan of nintendos golf and tennis games, but I’m also in the awkward position of buying these like some sort of hopeless automaton and then not playing them much because I think their N64 versions are better.

I found this game fun for a quick party with mates, and we all agree their new golf modes are fun and innovative for a silly afternoon but then we just never played it again. As usual Nintendo let gimmicks sit in the way of a more genuine, straight faced virtual sporting experience
I love Mario golf on game boy most. So if you’re like me, my advice is to get Golf Story on switch store and just play the Mario Golf 64 on their n64 emulator until you get bored and you save a few bucks.

    • yeah is this worth it? I have been playing a golf game in VR and love it but I can't seem me playing with with out a VR headset.

Come on Amazon, price match Kirby too 🤞🤞

    • Seems unlikely unfortunately, now that it’s out of stock

    • +1

Keen for Kirby too. Out of stock at HN so unlikely

If you were hoping for a game like Mario Golf on the Game Boy Color with some RPG elements then you will be disappointed. Go for Golf Story instead which I liked a lot more than this. But, it's rare for games like this to drop in price so it might be worth it!

To counteract the negative opinions that aren't from experience, I've put in about 30 hours.

In that time I've finished the 'story', played offline split screen and stroke play and played a lot of online rounds.

This game is super accessible and fun to play without having all the technical parts of more modern golf games or classic Mario golf titles. This put me off at first, but made the game WAY more enjoyable in the long run as I was able to play it and enjoy it with my girlfriend and other people who would otherwise never play a golf game. The only person, funny enough, who refused to play it with me was someone who was adamant and attached to the old style of gameplay associated with the older Mario Golf and Everybody's Golf games.

    In sum:
If you're wanting a technical golf game (which you probably already have as a reference point anyway), this ain't for you.

If you want a fun and accessible golf game you can play casually with kids or partners, this will more than fill your needs.

      Bought for this reason. Thanks.

    • Bought thanks to you ;)

    • Like Mario Tennis Aces level effort but Golf.

      • I didn’t mind that game, I preferred the n64 version back in the day but I understand that this version is miles ahead of that and I’m looking back to my childhood with rose tinted glasses. Aces has a steep learning curve but it’s a decent game.

  • Imagine golf story with the production value of Nintendo.

A shame the switch sports games have been so eh at launch, fearing for wii sports and soccer

  • Boring after the first play through zzz

    • +2

That’s all I’m after. I’ll pass it onto the kids. If we all get a play through and enjoy it that’s $40 well spent.

      • I can appreciate that. You're a good parent.

        • +3

Yeah I only charge them what I pay for the game so after they all get a play through I end up with $80 profit for beer and they have less kidneys or something. Everyone wins.

          • +4

@[Deactivated]: After I finish a game I force my kids to sell the game to someone at school at RRP. If they don't, they have to work off twice the RRP value in chores, works out to be 6 months worth a game.

Played an hour in adventure mode so far and it’s a good game imo

  • +1

It's a good game, but really lacking compared to the other Mario Golf games. Motion is fun. It's worth it.

  • Not sure why there's so much hate of this game. I'e played about 2h so far and its been pretty fun
