COTD - Onitsuka Tigers possible fakes.

Hi All,

I brought a pair of the Onitsuka Tigers last week from Catch Of The Day. They have arrived today and I'm not sure they are the real deal. I own a genuine pair of mexico 66's and these new ones feel a lot cheaper. Had a bit of a google to see the characteristics of fake tigers and looks like all the signs to watch out for are present on the COTD ones.

This is the link http://vdemidov01.blogspot.com.au/

Should I take this up with COTD to get an explanation or I have no leg to stand on?

Cheers

  • That is quite interesting considering the possible monster beats fakes they have been shifting aswell

  • can u post up some pictures of your shoes?

  • I dont buy anything from COTD. Poor service and too many bad reports. For shoes you should go to david jones, I got diesels for $44 down from $180

Yeah that does look fake according to that blog that you posted…Definitely get a refund (without returning it) or threaten to 'Blow the lid' with today tonight! Although I'm pretty sure TT are getting paid money by COTD to advertise (I'm sorry, I mean do exclusive interviews with the company that is revolutionising the way we shop!)

  • damn, just found out my midrunners I had for 2 years were fake (although it does explain a lot of things)

  • i could be wrong but they look fake to me sorry

Interesting, if the user observations in the blogs are correct, then I would say (from the picture) the pair you got matches a fake one.

Perhaps contact onitsuka/Asics AU first to confirm if those blogs are reliable in identifying fakes, then bring it up COTD once you have concrete advice from the distributor in Australia?

Would be great if you could update us with any progress so other members who bought the same range of shoes could check their too. I believe this was the deal?

    • Yep that was the deal. I posted this over on Whirlpool and got this reply from a COTD member over on WP.

I escalated this matter with the Catch Buying team overnight and can confirm that:
      1. The Asics Onitsuka Tiger shoes were supplied to us by an authorised distributor of Asics footwear;
      2. The stock was inspected pre-sale by a third-party agency for authenticity; and
      3. We possess a sanitised copy of the Invoice generated by Asics for this stock.

I trust this addresses any question in relation to the authenticity of the stock sold by Catch. That said, and as with any stock sold by Catch, if you are disappointed in relation to the quality, size, etc. of your shoes, please submit a Return/RMA Request on the Catch website.

Good idea you suggesting to contact Asics direct to see what they say, I'll do that today if I get time.
Please do not hesitate to email me if you have any further concerns (email address is listed in profile).

      • "if I get time"

        hmmmmmmm…..

        • Oh I just re-read my post above that, shouldnt read like that. The "if I get time" line was one that I added in. Should have been the last line. I'll fix it up.

EDIT: Seems I can't fix it up so it should read as follows:

  • i bought a pair from COTD, California 78's. Ive compared them with my other pair in another colour and can say that these are not fake..

I've emailed Asics this morning, waiting for a reply, will post it up here when/if i get one.

  • I've bought some Victorinox from them before and yep, it was fake as hell. Luckily it's only $30 so I'll chalk that up as a lessons learned than pursue it further. Similar my experience with Scoopon of course given they're owned by the same bunch.

  • Just wanted to provide an update. I have been in correspondence with Asics through the week and they have confirmed that they are authentic yet the pair I received were not of the best quality. Spoke to COTD and they were happy to send me another pair which are of better quality.

I'd like to make a special mention to Seamus from COTD who was very good to deal with and sorted this out promptly.

    • Thanks. Would it be possible to tell us how they are not best quality? Just curious what was wrong enough to tip you off, but good enough to (presumably) pass some sort QA test.

      • I got a reply from Asics with what to look for in terms of fakes and these shoes seemed to fit some characteristics but not others. I just compared them against my other Tigers I bought in store and they are definitely not as good quality.

Asics said that sometimes shoes slip through QA and seemed like thats what happened to me in this case.

        • It'll be interesting to see some side by side snaps of these and the replacement shoes.

  • Hi,

I just saw this posting and can confirm all COTD stuffs are 100% Authentic.

The shoes that oxblodd8 bought was last year limited edition for OT Bike Edition only SOLD in America

    http://counterkicks.com/2011/07/06/onitsuka-tiger-mexico-66-…

    Link above might help you

The shoes that oxblood8 bought actually premium grade on Onitsuka tiger, RRP if they sold in Australia should be around $200 and pretty good bargain provided the price that COTD offer.

Please check link below from HYPE on this $200 range( they are have logo on outer sole)and they called it LAUTA edition

    http://www.hypedc.com/catalog/product/view/id/18798/s/mexico…

I did not know this was on I would buy them :), they used 3M system on their lace and X mark on the back heel and outer sole also different.

I have the black color version on this shoes but not the yellow and they were prepared for TDF (Tour De France)

In regard the blog that you has put which is correct that OT Mexico 66 should not have logo emblem on outer sole but not PREMIUM edition on Onitsuka Tiger. if you

I found this blog that might interest you guys with side by side snaps fake and authentic Onitsuka Tiger shoes

Next time if this on again please let me know I want one the Yellow Tiger :)

    Cheers
