Driver seat Lexus RX 2012

I purchased a 2012 Lexus last year, the car is in a good condition, however the driver seat has lost all padding and i tried a few different cushions and not comfortable at all. What options are there
1. Re upholster?
2. Aftermarket seat? Is it possible anyone know a place in Brisbane?
3. Wreckers?

    1. Reupholster - yes, need to get a quote in person since you are probably looking at replacing both cushioning and covering

    2. Aftermarket - no, usually only for track or drift cars. Even if you find a nice Recaro for your RX, you still need to consider custom seat rails, air bags and engineering

    3. Wreckers - yes, hit the web and phone to find seats for your exact year and model number. Not sure if the RX 2012 seat has overly complex memory, airbag and electrics so you may need to factor in installation as well. Ask the reupholstery shop if they can source replacement seats and/or install a like-for-like OEM seat if you can provide it

Either 1 or 3….. But 3 runs the same risk as the seat you have unless you can try it out first :)

Guess I will need to shop around option 1

A 2012 Lexus driver's seat is destroyed? What condition was the rest of the car? Sounds like one of SlavOz's overweight friends was driving this car a lot. My daughter drives a 2012 Ford with 220k on it and the seats are still awesome.

    • Agreed! Rest of the car totally fine. Nothing to complain.

    • Toyota quality lol.

Small people sliding in and out of a high 4x4 will wreck the side bolster.

I have a 2005 prado, with lift kit and higher profile tyres. The bottom bolster side on the seat is stuffed.

the driver seat has lost all padding

    Oh, what a feeling.

  • This shouldn't be happening with 2012 RX, unless it has some astronomical mileage or a driver was over 200kg…

I'd search wreckers for a replacement seat, just need to make sure that the airbag and electronics are there.

  • DIY isn't so bad: Remove the seat, de-clip the base cover, inspect the foam, cut some new from an old couch cushion. Good seats use horse hair- but very few of those around now but good things do turn up at the scrappers and horse hair lasts forever under old leather. If that bad, remake or repair the cover using your choice of material, clip in and re-install in the car.

It's a good idea to use a covers as this saves them from sun and wear which in high vehicles and grippy/bolstered performance seats can be quite high.
