Xiaomi Viomi Smart Heater Pro 2 2200W & Humidifier $129 @ Aldi

270

Good price on this smart heater from Viomi that's currently selling for $155 from Kogan. The Aldi listing doesn't really show much information so there's more on Viomi's website and this video from 12:30 shows it in action.

This 2200W power heater can heat up in 5 seconds, can be controlled via the remote or with the Mi Home app, supports functions like running on a timer, adjustable temperature range from 5-35°C and has an integrated 350ml humidifier. It comes with an AU Plug, IPX4 rated and has a HD LED display on the front.

      Is that you scumdog scomo?

that must be your dad lmao

        • -2

          nah ur not my dad

  • Aren't these crazy power inefficient?

    • +14

Heaters are just about 100% efficient. A device that's inefficient wastes energy by converting it to heat. In this case that's exactly what you want.

Different designs heat differently, but at the end of the day all that energy is being converted to heat that is put into the room.

      • Agree. Just heard of people running these things in winter and coming out with a $1000 bill. From memory split systems were far better for heating an entire space.

        • Split systems are far more $ efficient to run. All these pieces of crap that plug into a socket have high running costs yet provide quite limited heating coverage. Fine if you just need it for a short time but you dont want to be running them for hours daily.

        • From memory split systems were far better for heating an entire space.

Yup, heat pumps are more efficient than heaters. They do cost quite a bit more although if you're putting in air conditioning you'd get a reverse cycle one. You wouldn't install an AC in e.g. a bathroom or a small room though.

      • True of any electrical device contained within the room that isn't storing energy (like a battery charger).

2200W of bitcoin miners produce exactly the same heat output as this heater so perhaps that would be a better contender for a 'Smart Heater'.

Although really the only smart option is a reverse cycle air conditioner since heat pumps 'break' the whole x joules of electrical energy to x joules a heat energy thing and are typically provide around 4.5x as much heating per Watt as any resistance based heater.

        • +1

2200W of bitcoin miners cost a bit more in capital. The argument is always whether to get an air con installed vs a space heater. Adding the mining complicates things but hey, if thats your goal - mining only when you're cold - then maybe its a plan.

          • @ATangk: Heaters don't generate capital though…

Really depends on the use case. I use heat blanket if I am just sitting on my chair or laying down on the couch, and I can just set it 200w. Coz it is only heating me up without getting the environment warm resulting in very efficient energy useage.

I use a $25 heated vest from eBay that is powered by a 5v phone power bank. I've been using it for 5 years and wear it inside and out. I've got a couple of power banks and just charge one while using the other.

        • +2

Please share the link to the heated vest you bought?

        • damn wearing a heat-powered vest outside! this is knowledge i needed when i lived in Canada!

    • Yes they are inefficient as a heat pump heater (like a reverse cycle heater) is 600% efficient in turning electricity to heat.

      This is only 100% efficient.

Odd concept but worth a read

yo. We ozbargain. +1 to all you homies rocking the hot water bottles. Represent.

  • Cheers looks decent

    • It goes down to 5 if you get too warm in that.

      • Unzip the feet and open the leg vents ;-)
I actually saw one in local Aldi yesterday, didn't believe at first what it was until some guy opened one up instore to try on LOL.

    • it needs a pee hole though :(

Cheap fan heaters are 2200-2400W on high. I bought one from ColesWorths for $5 several months ago when appliances were being cleared for new stock. Hopefully this shifts a greater volume of air, or $124 of that will be wasted.

    • +1

would be less likely to catch fire, maybe

Fan heaters use a noisy fan. This heater is 100% silent as it uses convection to circulate the air. It can also humidify the room.

Hopefully this shifts a greater volume of air, or $124 of that will be wasted.

The fan heater probably moves more air, but is infinitely louder.

"Wasted" is subjective. To some people, $124 could be worth it for the design, the silence, the smart features, or the integrated humidifier.

It's the same reason why not everybody buys clothes from Kmart - plenty of people are happy to pay extra at other stores for different designs or materials.

One could even say your $5 heater and electricity costs is a waste as you could just put on a jacket.

      • tbf convection is not some fancy technology. It's just what happens if a warm body is in a fluid. Every heater that doesn't have a fan is a convection heater by default.

        • No one said it was some fancy technology. This is a convection heater, OP put forward a fan heater as an alternative. I pointed out the biggest difference between the two - noise.

  • looks huge and bulky from the video

    • That's a good thing.

  • Is this good?

  • your housemates hate you

    • What housemates

  • anyone have opinions or reviews of this heater???

ps I don't want to take about alternatives and cost savings as it gets discussed every autumn/ winter.

  • Thanks Op. got one. No stock at ultimo aldi

  • Plenty of stock at Ashfield Aldi if people are searching.

  • Got one today, went without a hitch until I turned it off at power point then back on again, now wont connect to mi home app even after wifi reset and removing device from app and re-adding it. However my router app lists it as connected!? Unless anyone here has got a fix taking it back tommorow.

    • Maybe double-check if you connected the device to a 2.4 GHz WiFi network? It can't connect to a 5GHz WiFi network

Please refer to the connection Instruction video HERE

If the above didn't help. Can you please contact Panmi technical support via [email protected] ?

  • This product should be sold at Singapore. You cannot connect MI home app unless you are changing MI home app server connection to Singapore location. The distributor of this product is PANMI that is doggy company in Oz. Purchased MI speaker sold by PANMI before, open stock sold as brand new item. My water tank of this heater looks like used before, water mark around the container.

    • Panmi will switch the plugs with AU ones. I'm sure you'd be losing your shit if there was an EU Plug.

    • I'm on AU Mi home server, and connected no probs first time. Won't connect after turning off and on at power however.

      • +1

I've forwarded your comment to Panmi to see what they can do.

        • You can add if not too late that when you scan the QR code under 'Connect to a Wi-Fi network" in the provided instructions it directs the app to begin a connection to a Viomi robot vacuum. lol

      • Mine one works well after turning off and on. Can you please shoot a video to [email protected] or PM me? Sorry for the inconvenience caused.

        • Hi @HanaLF, how is the heater overall?

    • The device connects to Mi Home App under both Singapore and Australia locations.

Panmi doesn't sell open stock as brand new item. Panmi reworkss Xiaomi products to switch EU plug to AU version, add local warranty sticker, and do AU standard compliance.

This product should be sold at Singapore.

I don't think they would sell very well there. :)

  • It says adjustable temperature range from 5-35 degrees, does that mean this can cool as well during summer months?

    • Yep pretty much. Someone with one can test I'm sure.

    • Unfortunately it can't cool.

Just test it again. Yes, it can't.

For anyone looking for stock you can use Aldi special buys stock checker. https://www.stockcheck.aldi.com.au/

  • Got one yesterday

2 left in Eastgardens ALDI Sydney

Great build quality and completely silent except some ticking noises maybe from heated alumniun expanding and contracting

However would be nice to have some timer options to auto turn on and off.. not sure if can link to Alexa to do this

    • Can't do it in the app?

      • Got one from Eastgardens ALDi too, and yes it has the timer function in app also in remote, but havent tested with voice assistant.
P.S. It takes a lot of time to heat , dont know to keep it or to return it.

        • Why it takes lots of time to heat? It only takes seconds to heat up, im using it, its great beside it is quite big

Anyone got this to work with Google home? Not coming up in my devices after linking with mi home.

    • i have the same issue. Is your mi home region setting as China region?

  • anyone managed to add this to MiHome app that has set to Chinese region? i have many other devices that only works under Chinese region.

    • +1

I have the same issue and the only solution is to flip the regions back and forth. It does not lose devices paired to the other region so it's not a big deal to flip but agree it would be nice to have it in one. Also it does not ask to re-login so it's probably like 3 taps.

Other option is to manage the devices from region A using google assistant and region B via mi home app but I have not tried this option.

  • Does any one tried the humidifier ? i cant see the water vapor coming out from the unit

    • I bought 2. 1 worked and 1 didn’t, I’m going to return the one that doesn’t work tomorrow.

      • thanks, i had to return too, there wasnt stock nearby
