I bought these after they got huge props in Wirecutter. Hate em. Replaced them like a week later.

    • ohh thats unlucky, at this price im still giving it a go.you can buy a really expensive one and it may still break down in a week.
not going to spend more than this on a scale really.

    • +3

Any reasons for hating it or, idk, just its looks?

      • +1

It's just cheap and plasticky, lightweight, fake chrome, annoying buttons.

If you don't cook much or don't care, it's accurate and super cheap. I paid $23 according to amazon.

    • Why did you hate the kitchen scales?

  • +2

got one of these, does what I need it to do

    • seems good, has good reviews.not a bad price at all.

  • +24

Just remember kids. An ounce is 28 grams.

    • What would you by in ounces?

      • +30

        Nothing at all, officer.

      • +2

        Texas Elk blood

    • +1

      you can change between oz,g,lb

    • +15

Why does it have small ziplock bags in the "customers also bought" section though? Asking for the kids.

  • +5

Would this weigh something like flour, or laundy detergent?

    • yup it would do just fine it can measure from 1g to 5100g

    • +2

It would but because it's display is only down to the gram it would not be appropriate for more expensive powders unless you're weighing up criminally large amounts.

It does have a TARE function which is essential for something like flour where you need to measure it in a separate container

Seems like these scales are on sale too, can anyone speak to their experience in weighing crushed vitamins and sugar? https://www.amazon.com.au/deal/08d4d879?ref=dlx_deals_gd_dcl…

  • Still using the one from this deal
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/674987

    • How come I missed that.. :(( It is much cheaper than this one at $6 and easier to clean because of the design.

      • :(

        I’d have gotten one too…

"Runs on 2 AAA batteries" This is good.

    • +8

      The batteries are cursed

      • +3

        That's bad.

        • +1

Amazon replaced the batteries free of charge. This is good

        • +1

But you get your own choice of topping

          • +3

@ozy: The toppings contain potassium benzoate

            ……..

            ……..

            THATS BAD!!!

  • +1

Reviews say it's made entirely of plastic.

    • +3

It is. The plastic is painted chrome to look like a metal plate, but it aint

    • it says material is chrome under product specs

      • +5

        Chrome is a coating…

        • +3

          Or a good night out

  • +9

I'm genuinely curious how this is any different to the ones from kmart?

    • Brand, shape & price

    • I've used the kmart ones. weight changes depending where you place the object. can be accurate but not consistent.

    • I've been on the hunt for decent cheap scales for years, the Kmart ones were no good, i don't remember why though…

      • oh no :( i just bought one today. Working pretty well for me so far

        • I bought this one

I think my issue was it didn't stay turned on for long enough, you'd be adding ingredients and all of a sudden it would turn off and you'd have to re-measure

  • +2

I bought one in June 2020, used it fairly regularly and it has been fine - nothing fancy. The raised platform beats the perfectly flat scales because the display doesn't get covered up by whatever you're weighing

  • My mate wants to know if these weigh baking soda?

    • +7

any white substances can be weighed

  • 😵‍💫

  • +1
  • +3

    Just legalise it

    • +4

Maybe you should just grow up and do coke like an adult.

      • +6

        The bubbles hurt my nose….

I’ve had a scale of exactly the same design for 10 years now, which I bought off eBay or DX for about half the price. It’s fairly accurate and is handy being able to go up to 5Kg. It’s great for when you’re doing a cook baking. The plate is rather small, though, so if you’re weighing something larger than small ziplock bags a dish or measuring cups it may cover the display - all you need to do is put an upside down bowl on it, press Tare to zero the display, then put whatever merchandise ingredient you’re weighing on top of that.

  • Got the Ozeri ZK14-S for $21.36 last year to replace some branded weighing scale.
Very happy with it, and it does everything that we need it to do without fuss
