inb4 AGL is a scummy company, expensive etc. Rates are pretty standard across gas retailers, and I'm just after the cheapest price.

  • Please add name of company in title. Thanks.

    • Oops lol I keep doing that

  • What…
Account Service Fee of 7.21 (incl. GST) cents per day

    • +1

What's wrong with that? I'm currently with Kleenheat and it is the same.

    • +3

Yeah that's standard with all the other gas retailers

      • I think origin is the only one that doesn't charge it.

    • Must be what they call the daily supply charge in WA.

      • No. That's separate charge

  • +2

I changed to AGL after the previous post of this deal. So far so good…I'm down to about $30 a month for gas (a saving of about $5 a month). I did it online and Amazon code was sent via email after the switch over from previous gas provider. Amazon Prime code stacks with current subscription so I'm paid up till June 2023.

    • Same with my prime
Previous deal also included the discount for all charges, not just gas usage

  • -1

does this mean that AGL get details of what is bought with amazon I wonder….?

  • I am already with AGL. I guess its time to switch.

  • +3

I've been with AGL on various 50%+ offers for a couple years, I found them the cheapest in WA.
Wish I could get on that sweet Amazon membership, might try calling their retention team

    • +1

Let us know if you're successful as a existing AGL customer

      • +1

We can change our plan to 56% online however we cant get amazon membership as it is for only new customers switching over.

        • Did you ask, or do you assume? When they had a flybuys deal a while ago I got both, the reduced price and the bonus points.

          • @team teri: I did ask live chat when I posted the previous deal and they said for new customers only.

          • +1

@team teri: I have asked and they said that it is for new customers only. Amazon membership is directly linked in their system for new customers only (when you sign up).

    • Could I just get my wife to signup or is it done via address?

      • I was wondering the same hahaha

        • I only got the 56% off.

Spoke to chat, only new accounts will receive the 12 months Amazon Prime voucher. So might work if your spouse creates a new account. I still have 9 months of free Amazon via Optus so not sure if I could even use the voucher.

  • Shifted from AGL after a good decade or so. SA user.

Went to Globird who came up cheapest on the every comparison site.

Dislike monthly billing and gas estimates but seems cheaper.

Got peeved they didn't notify me of the latest plummet in Feed In rates. Instead got an email saying it'll be retrospective.

SA had this promo too recently, may still be.

    • I'm going to agree, seems like my globird charges are better still, without including Amazon Prime, that'll just make me sound more money….

      Daily charge : 0.85800
      Unit charge : 0.01760

Edit: apologies my prices are for Vic, so not a fair comparison

    • Location definitely plays a big part in electricity price, I'm assuming due to infrastructure. I have been with Globird for like 10 months, cheaper than any other retailer etc, then moved house 5 minutes down the road and rates went up 10-30%.
They have a good referral bonus that has done me well on here ;) but sadly I don't know anything about Amazon promos…

  • Just swiched away from them yesterday. I was two days late and asked to have it waved as a once off but they said "no" . Nothing else and it was a $81.70 late fee

    • Sounds odd, they display their late fees on their site. Does you ask them why it's so much?

      Late payment fee
      $12.73

      • +1

$12 for an automated reminder email?

Surely that would be an illegal penalty charge in Australia?

      • Total due

        $104.82
$186.52 if paid after due date

        Due date

        11 Apr 2022

        • Oh I remember now, if payment is late they take away the "discount" so you pay the full price of your bill, for my situation at the time anyway.

  • Does anyone know, if I switch will I be charged the "Special Read Fee" by my current supplier, AGL or both?

    • Never happened to me. Changeover was done at the next scheduled meter reading.

      • Perfect thanks!

  • +1

Is this available for existing customers? If so, how do you change to this plan?
I'm currently on 51% off Gas Usage and Supply Charges, and when I logged in to my account and clicked on "Change energy plan", I can only change to 56% off Gas Usage Charges (so no discount on the Supply Charges).

    • Yes, I switched my whole family to 56% off gas and supply. If the option isnt showing up for you, get onto live chat and they can do it. Just say you saw the ad on Facebook or something.

    • Yep, I nearly missed that little detail. Very naughty of them. No problem getting it via chat though.

  • I wonder if this is 56% off the price that the majority are paying, or 56% off the price that nobody is paying?

    Either way, it’s an insult

    • It's 56% off the price set by the state government. Before we had a choice in gas suppliers, just a few years ago, we paid that full price to Alinta.

People who never bothered to shop around and just stayed on their old contracts still pay that. Seeing how complacent and ignorant many of us West Aussies tend to be, I reckon that may well be the majority (just going by the election polls on that assessment).

      • People who never bothered to shop around

And there’s my problem — why must the default be to rip the consumer off?

Some people bother, others wonder why so much of life is sucked away by trivial matters…

        • +1

That's life for you. It gets sucked up by something, people can choose by what, but in the end, it will end ;-)

      • Definitely lots of people paying the lazy tax. I asked around my workmates back in the day, most of them weren't even aware that gas had discounts. I referred them, and when I asked them later, 'nah cbf'. I even told my close workmate that I'd fill in the form for her and she's like naaah. Very strange.

  • generally their daily charges are more then others, so need to work it out based on your usage if better off.

    • Supply charge is discounted with AGL, I just checked Alinta (who offers 35% off usage only) and it's still at 22.23, cbb checking others but probably the same

  • Should I tick the add carbon neutral gas?

    • I didn't and still got it, I think it's free? Or 50c if it makes you feel better about it lol

      • Thanks for replying, 👍

  • I am existing customer, wish I can get this deal as I only am paying around $40-$50 every 3 months.

    • You can get the 56%, but not the free Prime membership.

  • +1

As a word of caution, I moved house at the start of March and contacted AGL to take up this offer at the new place.

Got all the emails from them saying they will take over gas supply from the next meter read, and thought nothing more of it.

Friday a letter turns up from Kleenheat addressed to the occupier saying they noticed gas was being used at the premises without an active account, and I will be billed at their standard rates.

Phoned up AGL and it turns out the changeover silently failed in the background because a direct debit arrangement is required for this plan, and they didn't have direct debit details on file from me. No attempt to contact me or anything. Now they have my details I am scheduled to switch on the next scheduled meter read.

So yeah - if you are taking up this offer, make sure you stay on top of it/them because it seems they are effing useless.

    • My rental was vacated in Feb, and I forgot about changing the gas over and it also defaulted to Kleenheat. I would have thought Alinta was the standard supplier but guess not.

  • +1

AGL seemed pretty slow when I switched from Kleenheat recently, perhaps I did it after a recent meter read. Was pretty painless and the 55% of supply and usage can’t be beat. Amazon prime stacks on current membership as well which is awesome.

Some hero made this a few years? ago. I modified and kept a local version but looks like it might have been updated recently as well

  • Haha,. How long do I have to stay with alinta after using their 5 hours iremoval services?

  • How long did it take to get the Amazon sub?

    • +1

Don't know, signed up last night, no Amazon prime sub code come through yet.

    • +1

      When the gas is connected

    • Last deal, got it 4 days after activation.

  • I'm currently with AGL , so if I change provider for a month and come back to AGL for this offer, will I get counted as a new customer and be eligible for the Amazon sub?

    • Should be right, but probably try under your partners name. But doesn't it change only after a billing cycle?

  • I'm already on Set and Forget but only getting 52%. I guess I could ring/chat and ask to be moved to this new plan, I doubt they would give me the Prime for free though. It's a bit of a pain to switch in and out, they always call you and ask why you are leaving then offer to match/beat what the new provider is offering.

However AGL is the cheapest available at the moment.

    • Yeah just live chat them to ask for the 56% Gas and supply, should take under 10 minutes. you wont get the prime someone mentioned above already. I never pick up phone calls these days anyway as its 98% spam/scam but i cbb switching in and out lol

      • Any idea how to open a chat? I go to the Help section, click Message us and it just sends me in a loop back to the My Account screen. On the contact us page, chat is just a white box with no label, like it's disabled.

    • you can change the plan yourself. there is no need to chat/call.

      • Ah cheers, found it - all done.

  • Thanks OP, great deal coming from alinta with 35% off usage only.

  • 12 months Amazon Prime on us when you switch your home energy or internet to AGL.

so signing up new nbn plan will also get you 12 months Amazon Prime.

  • Why does it seem to mention the Amazon Prime Offer, everywhere it also talks about the Carbon Neutral 50c/month option? Like do you only get Prime, when you opt-in for extra 50c?

    https://imgur.com/a/RDnPlEN

    • +1

I got the Prime and i didnt opt in to the carbon neutral thing. But it looks like its free anyway?

      • Go Carbon Neutral
Add Climate Active-certified Carbon Neutral to your new electricity or gas service at no extra cost for 12 months.
  • Just signed up with AGL, and they have sent the redemption code for 12 months amazon prime - we are already with amazon prime, pay annually, and renew in feb 2023 - what happens here - if I apply this does it cover from feb 2023 to feb 2024 and then go back to billing us?

    • +1

Yes, mine just added 12 months to the existing expiry date
