Best Value 65" OLED TV Recommendation

I haven't needed to think about TVs for the past 8 years but now we have moved into a new house I am looking to upgrade from my 50" Panasonic (P50ST60A) to a 65" OLED TV.

Is there a well-reviewed model or two that go on special often enough that I should keep my eye out for?

I don't have any consoles or anything to think about and my main focus is picture quality over all else.

My budget is around the $2800 mark.

Thanks.

I'm currently having this same debate. The LG C1 linked above is the essentially the OLED reference set and is $2810 delivered at the moment with the eBay discount.

The other choice, little known here in Oz, is the Philips 805 OLED. It's missing HDMI 2.1 which you may care about if you're a console gamer (which you aren't), but it's otherwise as-good-as or better than the LG offerings (with better sound, support for more HDR formats and it's got Philip's awesome Ambilight bias lighting system). It's $2499 at Harvey Norman (I think it's exclusive to them) until May 31st. It reviews basically as well as the LG C1 at What Hi-Fi (who are well respected), HDTVTest and FlatpanelsHD.

Finding an 805 to look at can be problematic, I'm just about to travel to Newcastle to have a look at one in the flesh, but from all I've read and heard the C1 and 805 panels are indistinguishable from one another. Assuming that's the case, I'll probably be choosing the Philips (I don't console game).

  • Thats awesome, thanks for the considered response.

I'd love to hear your thoughts once you've had a chance to look at the Philips.

  • I must say the C1 does look gorgeous.

I've read and viewed everything I can get my hands on and there's only one thing thing which is troubling me - how can you fit a soundbar in front of the C1? (i.e. not wall mounted but on a TV unit)

Earlier today I ordered the Denon DHT-S216 sound bar which is apparently only 6.6cm high but now I'm wondering whether even that may be too tall.

    Am I missing something here?

  • I've got my LG OLED sitting on a piece of timber similar to this from Bunnings, which is the perfect height to lift the TV above the Sonos Arc - https://www.bunnings.com.au/specrite-1200-x-300mm-18mm-timbe…

Bunnings have many different varieties and sizes of timber to suit pretty much any scenario. If required you can cut the timber down even further and you'll barely even notice the extra bit of wood under the TV stand.

    • That's really clever, thankyou.

I may not even need a soundbar in the end. Our family mainly watches (embarrassingly) reality TV and for any action movies I mainly wear noise cancelling headphones.

Can anyone comment on the sound coming from the TV?

  • I ended up purchasing the 55 inch (long story) LG C1 from here for $2160 delivered:

    Thanks for everyone's help.
