Looking at travelling to melbourne and was wondering if anyone could recommend cheap hotels which are around 3-3.5 star. Would prefer to be in a safe area in the city.

A few years ago, before I started taking my ex-in-laws up on their offer of their vacant city apt near Crown, I stayed at the Jasper hotel near the QV markets.

It was pretty cheap for a cingle. They let me check in at 4am no problem. The rate was considerably cheaper because I wanted a single room.
