Hornwort (Ceratophyllum Demersum) (Floating Aquatic Plant) $1.99 Each + $3 Postage ($0 SYD C&C) @ Sydney Aquascapes

90

Hornwort is a great plant to help clean up any excess nutrients from your aquarium water (This helps with Algae and keeping your fish healthy). Since it is a floating plant, it gets all its nutrients from the water-column, and is great paired with fish or even in ponds.

The only requirement is a fairly strong light, but as long as you have a dedicated light or sunlight that should be enough.

  • Would this go alright in an African cichlid tank?

    • Out of all our plants, its one of the tougher ones, but they still might eat it. I couldn't say for sure either way.

I got one of these in the last mega pack and it’s thriving something big.
Also seems to have helped algae somewhat

It would be eating the nutrients that algae would otherwise be taking, which might be what you are seeing.

      • I didnt know these plants could do this. Good to know as I have two of them in my freshwater tank.

All plants do to some extent, but these do not have roots, so get their nutrients from the water-column, which is the same place algae does hence they compete for food.

  • Thanks, bought 3 for my tank
