    Spectacular price!

    • +5

      Shure is!

  • +4

Good price but don't forget you'll need an audio interface. Get a MV7 for a plug and play solution.

    • -1

Probably get an audio mixer for an MV7 anyway, like a Goxlr mini, good pre-amps on that and I'm running it at +65DB of analogue gain, which these mics really need to hear properly.

      • +3

I wish the negs could reply with why, this is actually solid advice and don't take my word for it, just look up some reviews. Yes I'm talking about using it via XLR vs USB.

If you can't hear the poorer performance of the MV7 used via XLR, you either need new audio gear for your output, or a hearing test. In response to that performance, Shure made the MV7X, because they couldn't wire the MV7 properly for XLR with the USB ADC installed.

Software mixer is fine for any other needs at that price level and typical use case.

    • already have an AI, should i just get the MV7x ?

      • It's definitely the better choice if you want to connect via XLR, but the MV7 is the better sounding mic.

But there are better XLR choices in the $180-$250 bracket. Check out Podcastage on YouTube for some options.

    • I'm using the Motu M2 with my SM7B, happy with it.

Make sure you use the autocomplete feature so this gets tagged under microphones and the correct product tag.

    Aaand it's been done.

  • This is an awesome price for a super good all round mic for voice over and singing. Just beware you may need something like a cloud lifter to boost the line level. I use a FET Head personally and does a great job.

  • +1

I have a GoXLR mini. Is it enough to drive this?

    • It is, I also have a GoXLR mini and it has a very good amount of gain, so much so you won't need a cloud booster or other devices to add gain, working great (I'm using an MV7 but same principle.

      • MV7 requires way less power, and also sounds a lot better via USB due to how it was wired. The MV7X is the XLR version that actually sounds OK via such means.

But yes, the SM7B does get just enough power out of the GoXLR mini, but I wouldn't recommend purchasing one for this.

  • +1

Love this mic, but remember, they're VERY hard to drive so you'll need a good audio interface or a Cloudlifter (or similar).

    • This is why I ended up getting a Neumann TLM102 instead.

    • Audient EVO 4 does a great job at $180-$200 with a controlled signal. You even do fine out of a Behringer UMC202HD at $100-$120, just not quite as controlled.

      • Yeah, I'm running it into an iD14

      • UMC202HD can’t even drive my Podcaster without adding a lot of noise. I doubt it’ll run the SM7B properly.

          • +1

@jasswolf: Interesting. Then it would be the noise introduced to the monitored audio. I have definitely heard quite a bit when connected using my DT990 250ohm

            • +1

@xenoic: Keep in mind the DT 990 isn't neutral and will let you hear any noise or peaks above 4kHz a lot more clearly, but yes, it's possibly the DAC/amp performance while monitoring.

              Check your cabling as well.

        • What is your podcast?

  • Wow you guys are MIC experts!

  • stares at my fifine K683

    • If it does what you want, you're $500 better off! #Winning

Sold by ZANBIZII who have only just launched and have only three items on their storefront, and no feedback

    • +1

The item is still there, just have to select Amazon AU as seller.
Or this link to the Amazon AU item listing: https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/aw/d/B0002E4Z8M/

    • +4

The ZANBIZII listing now shows $454. Anyone buying this would be wise to select the $459.29 Amazon Au listing In the other sellers list in Amazon. This will guarantee genuine Australian stock with the Australian distributors authentication label and serial number feature.

There are way too many fake Shure products being sold from various different sellers, buyer beware!

    • I'm PRETTY sure this is fake. I don't know how this listing is still up but it's got 6k reviews sooo…

The seller was also selling a version with a cloudlifter as a bundle so I purchased that. When it came I was very skeptical of it's legitimacy. I'm not an expert and spotting fakes but there were definitely some indications that it might be a fake. When I purchased the mic, I also got messaged by a different person who was selling the mic who had only one review on their page by someone else saying that they were sold a fake shure sm7b so I was uneasy from the get go. I messaged to seller to see what was going on and the seller never messaged me back. I let amazon know and I got a full refund.

So either the seller dropped the ball and I got a free shure sm7b or its a fake.

If someone is an expert and at identifying fake microphones please let me know :)

  • Very nice but for WFH i have the $100 https://www.ozbargain.com.au/product/audio-technica-at2020 and an interface and all the feedback is that its miles beyond anything else they hear.

  • Couldn't resist… I currently have a Rode PodMic driven by a Clark Teknic CM2 (Cloudlifter/Fethead but cheaper) with an Audient EVO 4 interface. Been podcasting/streaming for over 10 years and always lusting after one of these but never abale to justify the high asking price (never seen it below $750) so at this price I had to get it.
BTW, as indicated above, change the seller to Amazon AU and get one day delivery.

  • I've had a RODE NT-USB for a few years that has done everything I've asked of it, but isn't used enough to justify upgrades.

I thought about this mic a few weeks ago as pie-in-the-sky maybe I'll look at that one day option.

    Well… Now I have one, and need a mic arm… and a cloud lifter…. and a XLR interface…. What have I done :P

    • +1

It definitely does spiral out of control but I would leave out the cloudlifter for now. If you are still choosing your interface, you can find a many options with enough gain to drive the SM7B. The amount of gain needed also relies on the volume of the sound source and proximity to the microphone.

There is a general myth online that a cloud lifter Is needed to use an SM7B, this has more to do with having inadequate mic preamps in an interface that become noisy when turned up to higher gain settings. I have four SM7Bs and have never needed a cloudlifter. It is definitely worth experimenting first with your interface and recording situation.

      • Thanks! Yes I was waiting for now until I did more research and decided on my interface, but that definitely is great feedback to consider.

  • -3

How do podcasters really need $400 microphones. Seems like a fad to me. Utterly over-priced non necessity goods.

    • $400 is not really a huge cost compared to the rest of the hardware. A MBP nowadays would be hitting almost $4K

  • Damn missed it, so $499 now but the only seller is ZANBIZII with no feedback and a new store. LOL

  • +2

I received my 3rd party order yesterday from ZANBIZII.. Its a counterfeit.. id love to tell you how it sounds but it doesnt even work to begin with (Using with a GoXLR) Beware of purchasing from 3rd party as im pretty sure they are just dropshipping the one from aliexpress. Amazon has been contacted for a refund.. so far seller has not responded so i have a chance at making a claim.

    • That's a shame… I ordered mine form Amazon instead on ZANBIZII and I got a legit one, still can't believe I got it so cheap, and it's working beautifully, BTW, I do have a mic activator connected to an EVO4 and I have WAY too much gain to play with, SMB7 not as quiet as some people say.
I hate these scams and so sorry that you got done, but good thing is Amazon are pretty good with returns and refunds in these situations.

  • +2

BTW Amazon has this back on for $453! Go to the original link (https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0002E4Z8M) and got to the "Other Sellers on Amazon" and choose Amazon AU.

    • +2

$453 is from yet another "just launched" scam store — the Amazon AU one is $458.79

      • +1

You are right, I pasted the wrong price
