Pretty standard. Can find tradies offloading them on marketplace most of the year at $90/battery

    • +3

A used battery. sold for cheaper than retail price?
Do you know how batteries and 2nd hand marketplaces work?

      • +10

Who said they were second hand? I am talking about brand new batteries. Tradies upgrade their tools all the time as they need the expenses, if you buy combo packs you usually get 2-3 batteries free by redemption so they just sell them.

        • +3

I've def seen this done and purhcased tools and batteries via FB Marketplace or gumtree that were brand new and obviously came from combo packs

        • The … second … Hand … Market … including … Tool … Batteries … Works … like … you … buy … you … loose … if … breaks

    • +4

      lol
Let's compare an unknown, used battery to brand new ones with warranty to save $9/battery

      • -7

Are ya'll thick or ? where does it say used lmao

        • -1

          tradies offloading them on marketplace

          Used or stolen or both.

            • +1

@callmechicky: Yeah, no warranty, plus if you did buy them what's the chances of living anywhere near them? dude gunna post em for free? see used Makita batteries on FB Marketplace all the time and most are dearer than you can get new same AH for with free delivery, warranty and for a few bucks, postal insurance

              • +1

@Series4Episode10: Tax write off with a tax invoice, probably not happening with FB Marketplace.

                • -2

@ATangk: first they were used or stolen or both, now proven wrong you pivot to the invoice lmao story as bad as amber herds lawyers

    • +1

No warranty on the batteries for the same price? Pass thanks.

  • The $297 is showing up now with free delivery, so you could maybe try for a price match with Total Tools or Bunnings now??

They might say no if it is a special package…. But three batteries can be done.

    • Tool Kit Depot is owned by Bunnings so should be easy enough to match?

    • +1

Bunnings will only match like for like, they do not have a 3-pack of Makita 5.0ah batteries.

      • I checked with Bunnings and you are right. They advised me to get it from Sydney Tools!

  • It's a great price - they say it's new - i am curious how they have gotten that price so low given that Makita don't seem to discount those items much.

    It's reasonable to ask how.

Is the company themselves breaking up multi-packs? or are they selling knockoffs?

Their Item number BL1850B3 seems to not match anything else that's comparable and only gets hits for their website for the same product.

    • That’s why I thought other stores might not price match.

    • +7

The 3 pack is on the US website just has a hyphen in the part number.

Sydney Tools also have a 3 x 5Ah pack for $295. What's the difference in batteries?

      • -2

Turns out the better deal is in the comments?

E: Neg to show better deal from Sydney Tools.

        • A neg for less than 1%. WOW. $2 difference doesn't mean the first is not a bargain.

          • @ozbreaker: It’s just a tool for awareness. And every other ‘bargain’ that people post, if there is a cheaper deal it usually does get downvoted instead.

Usually OP would add this deal to the post but it hasn’t happened yet.

      • +1

Nil, the extra bit on the battery model # on the page is to differentiate the deal, they are both BL1850B-L

      • Thanks, grabbed one!

      • Excellent find - thanks :)

      • Ended up order this 3 pack of 5Ah batteries from Sydney tools, arrived today without boxes and no charge in that batteries when they are usually shipped at 50% charged.
Hopefully Sydney tools didnt send me some fake batteries.

        • They won't be fake… see below comment.

        • Yeah … Sydney Tools is gunna loose their Atho dealer by selling fake Makita knock offs …

    • B3 is their code for 3 batteries, they are an autho'd Makita dealer, so if the batteries were faulty they have warranty.

  • Good deal to me! Thanks for sharing

  • The main issue I have is that it's for 3. Only need 1.

  • Just bought 2x 9ah generic branded ones off
EBay for $90 sure they might not last as long as genuine, but I think they will have a good runtime comparable to 6ah genuine

    • There has been a number of YT videos showing and comparing the differences between quality batteries and sub quality batteries. Even within the 18650, there are different chems which dictate if it's a high or low current draw performance.

It's a bit of a roll of the dice in short.

    • +2

it will start good for sure, but after a few charges its just an expensive paperweight. i learned that the hard way, and now only buy genuine makita products. you're not saving if you have to buy twice, or even 3 or 4 times.

      • Much better way of doing this is DIY. I made 2 x 9Ah Makita batteries using the battery shell and balance charge BMS boards from Aliexpress and 30 x genuine Sony VTC6 3000mAh high current batteries purchased from a legit local battery seller. Cost about $300 all up and the best part is that I know and confident about the quality of components inside. When you consider $/Ah cost it is still cheaper than original Makita even though they don't have 9Ah batteries.

    • +1

I have 2 of these and the batteries are only good for LED light and portable usb charger. Use them in your grinder and see how long they last. My genuine 5ah batteries outlast those cheap ones easy.

    • Messed with buying those twice, second lot were DOA and the seller would not accept that they were, one in the first lot caught fire after buying the second lot, ?NOT worth the risk, complete waste of money and dangerous!

    • Wait a few months, one of those caught fire, 4 were doa and the other 3 out of eight died after a few months, you will (as I did) regret that purchase!

  • Anyone in Brisbane wanna go splits? I only need one, happy to drive and pick up.

  • -1

This is a good deal, more for tradies who need 3 at a time. Not so much for me who is just an occasional home DIY and only need 1.

    • You always need 2.
Either that, or a 1 day job turns into 2! 😉

      • Actually I already have one 5Ah and one 4Ah batteries.

        • +1

          Good for you

  • Did Mac ever give old mate his makita back?

  • this is going to be great to power up my makita sandwich press.

    • And the coffee machine

  • +1

These would most likely just be 3 loose items from a bulk box sold together as a pack.
The free extra battery deals I've been getting from Total Tools have just been loose items taken out of a plain bulk packed box.
