Intel NUC M15 Laptop (15.6" FHD Touchscreen, i7-1165G7, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD) $1149.00 Delivered + Surcharge @ Shopping Express

910

Great price on this laptop by Intel that's packed with a lot of great features without sacrificing build quality or other areas that a lot of manufacturers do. I personally would argue this is what Apple would make a Windows laptop be.

Features a 15.6" 1080p IPS touchscreen 60Hz display with 460nits brightness, Intel i7-1165G7 (2.8GHz base, 4.7GHz turbo, 4c/8t) CPU, Intel Iris Xe graphics, 16GB LPDDR4X 4266MHz RAM, a fast 512GB NVMe PCIe 4.0 SSD and a 73Wh battery offering over 10.5 hours.

For ports there's 2 Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports on either side with PD fast charging, 2 USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 ports, 1 HDMI 2.0b port and a 3.5mm audio jack. There's also WiFi 6 ax, Bluetooth, front webcam and a glass touchpad.

For reviews Jarrod's Tech covers everything including battery, benchmarks, gaming and internals, while Linus Tech Tips explains why Intel decided to make barebone laptops for brands to build and sell.

      What's your point?

      • +1

Probably referring to how this deal is already posted in the other post, or they're making comparisons to what you can get for ~$200 more (if that's the type of product you're after)

        • Certainly not a dupe since there's no Intel NUC M15 in the title of the other deal. The ASUS certainly has some Pros if you're after gaming.

      • +1

He's begging for a fruit analogy

    • +4

If you're after an office laptop, which this one is, then this Intel one is much better.

  • +1

This is as good as it gets for this price. $19.90 delivery o.0

  • +5

Intel NUCs are tiny desktop computers, made possible by using laptop parts.

An Intel 'NUC' laptop, made using laptop parts… Isn't that just a regular laptop? What's so Next Unit of Computing about this?

    • +8

Intel NUC laptops are intended for other brands and manufacturers to buy a 'complete' barebones laptop where they supply their own storage, RAM, branding and so forth. Without having to actually manufacture their own laptop. It's quite similar to Clevo gaming laptops. Brands like Metabox buy these 'complete' barebones gaming laptops, choose their RAM, storage etc. and add branding.

The linked LTT video talks about it too.

        • +4

Yes it did. It explained exactly what they're made for.

          • -3

@Clear: Well I suppose then it did answer the question if we're talking about the question you made up out of thin air that wasn't in the original post.

I'm also failing to see how Intel can say this is for other manufacturers when they've then gone and thrown their own SSD and RAM into this one and sold it as-is under their own name.

Seems like this is just a cash grab on an already well-established brand name for the sake of it.

            • +1

@Tacooo: You didn't watch the video did you?

        • +1

It answered the first question (why it isn't just a regular laptop) but not the second (what's so NUC about it). Not that Intel is doing anything overly special here in relation to the former.

Answer to the latter is there's nothing much NUC about it. They're reusing and sadly diluting the brand.

  • Which one is better for light gaming

    • +2

      One with a dedicated gfx

      • This has thunderbolt ports so if you have a Thunderbolt eGPU should work very well.

    • You can also use cloud gaming, as long as your provider of choice has Australian servers.

Binglee page shows there is a $50 Intel cashback promo. Not sure if it also applies to shopping express. https://www.binglee.com.au/products/intel-m15-nuc-evo-notebo…

      https://www.intelcashback.com.au/terms
PARTICIPATING AUSTRALIAN RETAILERS AND QUALIFYING DEVICE(S). The Participating Australian Retailers are: JB HiFi, Harvey Norman/Joyce Mayne/Domayne, Officeworks, Good Guys, Bing Lee.
      Good spot tho.

    • I have just bought one from Binglee eBay and got $100 off from the eBay plus weekend coupon, so the price is effectively the same as shopping express's after the $50 Intel cashback without the credit card surcharge.

      • does the cashback still apply to the Binglee Ebay store? Wasn't sure if they consider Binglee and the ebay store as the same.

        • From experience, there is generally no distinction between the invoices bought from eBay and the website

        • My Intel cashback has just been approved, so the final price is also indeed 1149 from Binglee ebay

      • Ordered one on May 3, tracking number added a whole week later and then nothing. After contacting Bing Lee several times with no-one able to provide an update on the status, I escalated the case to eBay, who processed a full refund. YMMV

Would be great if it came in a 14" display.

    • +1

Yep if have bought it if it was! I'm not sure why something that's clearly a business laptop wasn't a smidge smaller. Better portability, and TB4 makes it easy to dock at a desk (so screen size matters less).

      • +1

Despite being a 15.6”, the 1.65Kg weight makes it pretty darn portable.

        • +4

A 15" laptop without a number pad seems a bit pointless, it's the main reason I'd choose one over a 14"

          • @Borkbork: Not sure that’s the demographic this laptop is aimed at.

          • @Borkbork: Amazing - every 15.6" notebook I've seen has a numeric keypad. Seems like a strange thing to miss.

    • Why 14”? Is smaller better?

      • +1

        Depends where you're putting it.

      • -1

For whatever reason, some people can’t deal with multiple concurrent open windows. For them, 15” screen is a waste of space.

        • +1

It's about portability more than anything else. A 1080p screen at 14" or 15.6" will display the same content.

          • +1

            @jwh:

A 1080p screen at 14" or 15.6" will display the same content.

Only if 14” is unscaled - 1080p becomes 1203p once scaled to same raster as 15.6”, hence more scrolling (eg. Excel).

Waiting for 12th gen version of this then buying. So much more efficient. Only 4 cores on this model yikes

    • +3

According to Jarrod's tech's review, the TDP of the CPU can reach 40w which is a lot higher compared to the same CPU TDP limit found in other laptops, resulting in better performance

      • How does it compare to 12th gen though, because the gains were insane no?

  • -1

Is this reliable enough for work?

    • +7

      Are you from Earth?

      • +1

        It's Elon, he works/tweets from Mars :)

      • +2

It's possible, after all, he is cucumber

        • +1

          A cosmic cucumber perhaps

      • +2

That's it. I'm going to buy ozb from Scotty so I can delete your comment.

  • This laptop looks very macbook pro style, better than MS Surface laptop?

    • Ms heatsurface.

  • +1

If this had an additional m.2 slot and came in 14" I would probably buy this

  • +2

I saw this for sale at mwave for 1249, but they include a Logitech MX Master 3

  • No haptic trackpad on these NUC models?

  • Redmond Santa Clara, start your photocopiers.

    • +1

Didn't copy their design at all. M1s are ARM chips, Intel still makes x86 processors…

      • Anyone with a long enough me memory will remember the Motorola and Ppc sanctimony

It hasnt really changed that much.

  • +2

Thanks, ordered. Would have ordered via mwave but I have a razer basilisk that I'm happy with…

  • +1

I was thinking about the Asus TUF because it's a better rig but I need the touch screen for work purposes.

Otherwise the extra gpu power, full size keyboard would have been great… Sigh. The extra weight would have been unpleasant but lived with it.

I believe I made the right choice.

    • +1

The touch screen won't be great, assuming you're looking to draw things for work. It doesn't support any pen protocols so you can only use a passive pen. It's a bit of a step down from what you would find on a Microsoft Surface or iPad.

      • +1

Thank you for your feedback / input!

Naw, just using it to scroll up and down and the pinch to zoom. No drawing.

I'm a clinician. I need it for chart notes and to run a 3D anatomy software.

        So it's perfect for me.

I actually have the iPad pro as well. Just want to decrease my office bulk but also increase the efficiency of my practice. At this price, it really isn't bad.

What about the warranty, is it provided by SE or Intel? can we claim a warranty in Australia?

    • +1

I'd also like to know this and if the warranty can be extended to onsite 3yrs

  • Is it free upgrade to W11?

    • Yes

    • I received it today. It is installed with W11H already.

  • Does anyone know how long delivery is? Thx

    • Delivery was 3 days

  • Anything comparable I could pickup from JB hifi?

Need a new work laptop :)

  • If this is aimed at business users why does it come with W10H?

    • It's not aimed at business users.

  • Can you upgrade the RAM and SSD?
