Ghost Shrimp (Aquarium Cleaner) $1.50 Each + $12 Postage ($0 SYD C&C) @ Sydney Aquascapes

410

These Freshwater Dwarf Shrimp are a great addition to your clean-up crew.
The Neocaridina family being one of the hardiest dwarf shrimp out there, they can survive temperatures as low as 15C up to 30C but thrive and breed readily between 21 and 26 Degrees.

Ghost shrimp are scavengers. They eat algae, bacteria and other microorganisms around the tank, and will never attack other live animals. They have a minimum bio-load and are a great addition to almost any tank's ecosystem!
Don't forget to check out our plants for combined postage and keeping the shrimp happy in transit!

Keeping with fish:
The general rule for all aquatic life is "if it fits in their mouth they will eat it." Unless you have specifically passive or vegetarian fish, shrimp may be eaten by any fish which is large enough to swallow one hole. Adult shrimp grow to 2cm in length, with juveniles being at least 1cm. Conversely, any smaller fish will live with them very happily. They may eat the baby shrimp if they breed, but if you have enough plant cover, usually enough survive to keep the colony going.

If you have any questions or problems feel free to ask!

    Are they ghost type?

    • striped ghost shrimp (neocaridina davidi)

    • +8

No, I believe they are Water-Dark. Confusing I know.

these are great pets on their own

    • They are, super cute.

Decent price, and the shipping isn't a killer either. 10 will do nicely for my newish tank.

  • Don't they still poop? Meaning what they clean they dirty again?

    • Yea I wanna know too, apart from the algae, do they eat stuff that's also fallen to the floor (poop and uneaten fish food)

      • +5

Yes they do, they are not a replacement for water changes and other regular maintenance, but they eat food stuck in places your fish can't get to (which would otherwise decay and cause problems) + eat some types of algae etc. The main benefit is a more rounded ecosystem which is what you usually call "cleaners".

In summary, as long as you are not overstocking your tank, adding them would mostly bring positive changes to your tank.

  • Also; how does on post live animals?

    • +1

They have a dead on arrival guarantee… So if you can prove they're dead… Then they'll replace them.

Express post should almost be next day delivery… Or within about 2 days.

Plenty of water and an air pocket will mean they will keep alive for the journey… As long as AusPost don't break the bag ;)

    • Exactly as previous poster mentioned, we guarantee DOA but especially recently AUS post has been particularly bad with ~5% of parcels taking over a week.

If that happens you will get a refund or replacement.

Have to give credit to @Brandingo for being so active in all the posts that they do…

Always a good thing to see and always willing to answer any questions :)

          Thank you!

  • Do they wash dishes .

    • +12

      Only if you pay them.

  • guessing an angel fish would eat these little guys

    • They likely will yes.

      • Dinner Dinner Dinner…

        Yummy Yum Yum LoL 😋

        • If you have enough cover for enough to hide to keep the colony going, it is a great extra food source. But that is at your own risk.

      • How about 12cm comets?

        • +2

The general rule is "If it fits in their mouth they will eat it". I would put a conservative fish size of about 3-4cm to be safe with them, but this depends on species and temperament as well.

  • Are these cherry shrimps? I thought ghost shrimps were Palaemonetes paludosus?

    • These are Neocaridinas, so yes, same as cherries but with a clear or spotted color.

  • I want them, but I’m positive my feisty betta will devour these. Maybe he deserves a treat!

  • Been waiting for this. Thanks

  • You guys rock, thanks and keep the deals coming.
Some catfish or loaches would be welcome deals!

    • We have some catfish for $5, 3 in stock I believe. No loaches however.

  • What’s the normal price?

    • +1

When not many are available we usually sell at $2, though most pet stores sell for much more.

  • I bought 2 lots so far and both came alive and well packaged… I bought 5 and then 8. They are hard to spot, but I think I have about 10 left

    • They are, you often have much more than you expect, but it is the case that a few can die in new tanks over time for various reasons.

  • Can I grow them in a jar

  • OOOOH! I need this, what are the best water parameters for this shrimp? I have 14L tank how many can I put into the tank?

    • These are pretty hardy, so no need to do anything special (We don't worry too much about our water parameters.)

For a 14L though less than 10 would be ideal, especially if there are no fish.

      • gotcha :)

  • Upvoted purely because this is awesome

  • when will this offer end

    • Not for the foreseeable future, it depends on breeding and demand.

  • sorry but $1.50 each is WAYYY too expensive.
check gumtree people selling like 50cents each or even cheaper if you buy in bulk

    • think the appeal is postage because some people don’t like to drive if it’s a long distance …depends where you live and how close sellers are …..

    • As garage sale said, you will be able to find most things from gumtree/ebay every so often at a low price from hobbyists etc, but they usually don't post and are not consistent.

  • Can I deep fry those? or use as fishing bait ?

  • now I've seen everything on ozb

  • so with the temperature limits, I guess they are not for outdoor ponds

    • Depends on your location: We keep our tanks outdoors in Sydney.

  • Do you have any lobster for sale?

  • If they die in transit you will still get your ghost shrimp 😂 but on a serious note, I have bought from OP and they are very good and make sure to post them out on Monday morning so they don’t end up sitting in the mailroom over the weekend.

  • Where is your click collect location ?

    • Ultimo Sydney.

  • Do you post to Melbourne and would they be ok outdoors in Melbourne ? Also, would they be ok with small goldfish ?

    • Goldfish are not the best, they may get eaten. Melbourne is fine however.
