Things to Buy during Amazon/eBay/AliExpress/Banggood Site-Wide Discounting

I was surprised that I can't find a post like this already, so I've started one myself.

This thread is to post ideas for things to buy when site-wide discounts occur, to avoid the "I don't know what to buy" problem. These ideas can also be used to solve the "I need a few more things in my order to reach the free shipping threshold" problem.

Please give ideas for any seller that periodically has wide-ranging discounts. I listed Amazon, Ebay, AliExpress and Banggood as the typical suspects, but posts for other sellers are welcome too. For example, Supercheap Auto frequently have discount days.

I'll start with the sort of things I buy when there is a site-wide special:

Batteries

  • Eneloops!
  • Alkaline AA or AAA batteries
  • 18650 and similar lithium batteries, if you use them in flashlights
  • Car batteries
  • Drill/lawn mower/hedge trimmer rechargeable batteries
  • Batteries for watches and car keyfobs

Consumables

  • Lawn mower blades
  • Oil for cars/mowers/chainsaws/trimmers (including two-stroke oil)
  • Chainsaw bar oil
  • Car windscreen wiper blades
  • Car perfume trees (the cardboard thing that makes your car smell nice)
  • Brake pads/brake shoes for cars/motorbikes/pushbikes
  • Tubes and tyres for pushbikes
  • Spare blades for utility knives
  • Filament for 3D printers
  • Car cleaning products

Cables and electrical

  • USB cables
  • Lightning cables for Apple devices
  • HDMI and DisplayPort cables (and VGA, DVI, etc)
  • Mains extension cables
  • Mains power boards

Memory and hard drives

  • USB sticks
  • SD cards and micro SD cards (perhaps the one in your dashcam is wearing out?)
  • Portable hard drives
  • SSDs

Sporting equipment

  • Shoes
  • Clothes
  • Protective gear (helmets, gloves, etc)
  • Racquets/bats/golf clubs/balls and so on

Food available from Amazon and Ebay

  • TimTams and similar biscuits
  • Spices, sauces, condiments

  • Some cheap IEMs on aliexpress and Enders v2 3d printer.

  • I buy anything and everything on Amazon. Amazon is a bit like Costco in that you never know what they will have as a good price. One week you'll check for something and they have none, the next week they have it in all the flavours at a cheaper price than the supermarkets.

    • Let me introduce you to camelcamelcamel AU…

      • Do you mean "paste an Amazon AU URL" into camelcamelcamel.com? That's how I set my price alerts.

  • Discounted gift cards for extra savings.

  • I don't recall ever seeing Amazon have a site wide discount and ebay hasn't had one either in, what, 5 years now?

Anyway, just make a wish list or whatever a particular site calls it and when a sale comes up you don't have to try and think of what you need as you already have a list.

    • I don't recall ever seeing Amazon have a site wide discount

Well, yesterday's "12% Cashback on all categories" deal was effectively a site-wide discount.

With a heap of restrictions and conditions, not actually from Amazon and are declined as often as they're approved but yeah, as close as it's ever been I guess.

i imagine "Big Butt Enhancer Essential Oil Effective Hip Buttock Enlargement" is an essential for ozbargainers https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005003960881560.html

    • Your imagination can confirm that it works ?

      • it's got 18 5 star reviews, mostly from israel mysteriously. they wouldn't lie would they?

"Bought this about a month ago and use it after the shower almost every single time. I have seen such good results from it. It moisturizes really well, and it doesn’t smell like anything. I love that it doesn’t leave me sticky like most lotions. I’ve gained an inch just on my bust and my legs are clearing up. Definitely recommend"

    • Does it work on men?

  • Definitely baby/kids stuff from Aliexpress, I've bought toothbrushes, sock shoes (attipas style), baby bibs like the long sleeved ones, kids socks, those tap attachments that make the water stream further…. I have a list saved up that I've checked for affiliation and just get some of those whenever theres a free $5

    • whenever theres a free $5

I'm assuming that's a voucher from AliExpress? I've only bought from them once, and that was a dodgy seller who sent the wrong item on purpose. I got refunded, and have never received any offers from AliExpress since. How often do you receive vouchers?

No, sometimes cashrewards or shopback have the $5 bonus on $5 Min spend a few times a year, never got the aliexpress select coupons myself

By the time you get it though, your kid has moved onto the next stage…

I always allocate 2-3 months for my aliexpress orders 😂

  • I just got told by a seller, they set an item say $25. You see it's 25. But if you pick up a coupon, or click some ali coins promo, say you pick up a $2 coupon the price of the item becomes $28.
I mean, that crap has always been confusing, but to see it laid out clearly is a shock.
