BlackVue Camera Extended Power Source

My car was badly damaged tonight. Crazy ex girl I was seeing, slashed both rear tires and scratched and dented my new car on most panels.
21.75 Ranger XLT. Done less than 6000km.
Have front and rear dashcams, BlackVue DR750S-2ch

Unfortunately, with the PMP hard wired installation, it usually goes into park mode and still records for a a period of time while in garage or parked up
Car was parked on front verge of friends house for a few hours, while we had dinner etc
It didn't record anything as both cameras were off, due to voltage cut off.
Police took statement, but have no hard physical evidence. Def the crazy ex girl, but obviously now I need some form of external power source and way to keep the cameras functional for longer periods of time.
At home, car is always in garage and I live in a complex, if it is outside of garage. It's more for if I'm elsewhere, so I can recprd longer and if something happens if needed. I've adjusted the sensitivity on the settings so it records and saves very minor bumps to car.

Please help

Edit: Front windows smashed at my home last night while I went out for two hours.

Car tyres
Panel and paint
Windows

I now need CCTV camera set up ASAP

    Blackvue has this
    https://www.blackvue.com.au/product/accessories/blackvue-bat…
But you might need a larger size sd card for park recording.

    • What's size do you suggest

      • As large as your dash cam can accept. Larger size also means less overwrite, and should have longer lifespan. The current largest size endurance card are Samsung Pro endurance 256GB and SanDisk Max endurance 256GB.

        • Thankyou. Appreciate the information and help

  • Get the DR750x I have one of these in a Ranger and it lasts for about 4 days in parking mode before powering down. You could probably go even longer if you turned the cloud features off.

    • I have the BlackVue PMP and maybe I can set it to go off at a lower voltage?
I'm not sure what I can safely set it at though.

Sounds like something is wrong with it or settings are wrong. Surely a unit like a dash cam wouldn’t use enough power to drop the voltage below a cutoff point in a couple of hours.

I routinely run the car radio for 90mins and he car starts fine.

Maybe disable the smart alternator. They seem to cause the battery to prematurely drop below usable voltage. I disabled the smart alternator in my wife’s car and it’s improved the battery life a lot. Used to die after about 1/2hr of radio use, hasn’t done that since disabling the alternator ‘smarts’

    • I done know how to do that. I'll ask Ford or ayro electrician on Tuesday. Monday is holiday in WA

  • Sorry to hear about the damage done to your new pride and joy. For accountability, see if the police can have her admit liability, using her phone metadata, public camera footage, etc. Violence is never acceptable, and get a battery pack as suggested.

    • Last night my front window of my house was smashed. I've been cleaning up the glass and shards for a while now, inside and out.

      • You probably have better chances of success wiring up security cameras in your home (either inside or mounted to the roof of something externally) than trying to position a dashcam in such a way that it would capture anything useful besides seeing her face near the car at best.

        • Yes, I'll get onto cameras at home ASAP. Car was parked on verge out front of friends place last night, where tyres slashed and panels scratched whilst there.
Only a couple KMs from home, either followed me there or found my car there.

  • You could do a dual battery setup with one battery being a deep cycle and using by a camera as well as other devices you may wish you install in future.

I did this and with the setup I have it alternates between charging the main battery and topping up the deep cycle.

    • Was going to suggest a dual battery install, but seems overkill for just a dash cam.

    • I installed an Anderson plug in the tray and I plug in a HardKorr battery box with deep cycle on a temporary unit/install if running fridge or power etc. And take it out unless I actually using it at the time.

  • For your home this might be enough if you don't need to cover a large area or want to spend too much on a full system.

    • Thanks
But I don't mind spending, to get a good system.

It'll still be cheap, compared to replacing house windows and repair/respraying car panels

    Linking both these posts.

It's been suggested by police to get a front door camera installed too. Record and voice.

    Thanks

  • Can you switch the PMP on and off, depending on where your parked?
Eg, in my garage under main roof at home, or in secure parking at work with CCTV, it won't be needed for parking mode…. but if I was to park in the street or down town, can I switch it on and off depending on where I park, when I pull up??

    Thanks

    • I've googled a photo of it, and there's a big on/off switch on the side, so I assume yes?
