    HODL!

  • +13

A little under two years for it to get under what I paid on release… insane.

  • +2

    Sub 1k soon

    • +7

They said that 2 months ago. Not much movement in last 1-2mo for 3080 / 6800xt / 6900xt.

      • +3

        I bought a 6900 XT 2 months ago for 1380.
There have since been 6900 XT and XTXHs for 1270 and 1250 respectively.
$100+ drop in 2 months is pretty significant IMO, enough for me to feel a bit regretful for not HODLing.

      • They said that 2 months ago.

I don't know who 'they' are, but the RTX4000 series should be announced next month, so once that hype builds up the demand for RTX3000 series will drop along with the price.

        • +1

They are the people in all the GPU threads, if you frequent the section, its nothing new.
Soon could mean next week or December, sub 1k in December, sure. next week, not likely.
Best rumors the 1st cards will be announced in August, 4090, maybe something else. who knows when stock will be available, 1 day or 3 months after.

We're all just speculating and guessing.

    • in another 3 months yeah

      • could be. Not soon to me.

  • +1

Sub $800 when eth hits $1K, now $1500

    • +2

Doubt it. The 1080 was $700-800 4 years ago before hyper inflation. 1k maybe but the 3080 won't go under 1k until the 40xx comes out atleast

    • -4

there are at least 3 other coins to mine besides ETH, their profitability will skyrocket once miners switch to them. mining won't die.

ETH was just $500 when I started mining.

      • +4

their profitability will skyrocket once miners switch to them.

If only I could sell a million widgets for a dollar each I'd be a millionaire…

        mining won't die.

Tell that to all the crypto coins that are no longer around. This is why Crypto bros are so often mocked. They seem to think that the laws of economics somehow don't apply to them…

      • +1

I’m not quite sure you understand the whole supply and demand thing. More people mining will drop the profitability of other coins.

ETH difficulty has increased 4x since it was last $500, so it’s making substantially less for you compared to then (and way way less than when it was first $500)

        • +1

difficulty increase 4x, but eth price went up from $500 to $7000. even now its $2000, which is on par with difficulty increase.

          • +2

@[Deactivated]: I was thinking in US dollars based on the above post saying it's $1500, it's increased 5 fold since it was last $500 AUD.

When the price was $7k the difficulty was about half of what it is now. Literally many times worse off mining now than the peak. More miners doesn't increase the price, the price bubble bought in more miners who are working on ever decreasing gains. The price is unlikely to keep going up but the difficulty will keep going up to counter the currency collapsing.

        • +1

the biggest threat is not eth price… imo eth merge is scarier than the price.. the price will bounce.. but this article https://bitproit.com/gpu-mining-profitability-after-ethereum… show the doomdays for miners

Holding strategy is clear - current gen can’t do 4K 144 max so just pass

    • +1

Agree. However I am happy with my purchase in March as I am only playing on 3440x1440 ultrawide 34" monitor, this card can hit 144fps in some games (not MSFS 2020 though haha).

      • Which 34" 4k monitor you got?

        • +1

One of the OzB's favourites - Dell S3422DWG. It is not 4K like I've said.

          • @edfoo: I thought MI was the OZB favorite.

            • @John Doh: I did say one of OzB favourites, not the only one.

            • @John Doh: nah, the Top Ozb fave is Dell S2721DGF: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/product/dell-s2721dgf

              • @[Deactivated]: Thats what I have, but it aint a 34 UWQHD.

                • @John Doh: 27" is perfect size for 2k, 34" is more for 4k, otherwise the dpi got stretched too much…

btw edfoo got this tuf 3080, I'd suggest you get one for yourself to join the exclusive club…

                  • @[Deactivated]: I have a MPB 16 in my amazon cart. Resisting. Its so nice and fast of development. Definitely not a 3080 now. And who is edfoo?

      • +2

We already have enough info in 4000 and 7000 series cards which look to bring around 50-100% performance improvement and around 50% performance per watt improvement, buying these cards now is a bad deal unless you're absolutely desperate for a new video card. Just wait a little more folks.

      • +1

I play on a 4K 60hz TV, so I'm also happy. Upgrading the GPU would mean upgrading the TV as well (and a CPU upgrade) and I don't play twitchy shooters anyway.

      • +1

I definitely think 34" ultrawide 1440 is the sweet spot for gaming and everyday use. Once you go ultrawide you cant go back. Plus most last gen gpu's have no problem running graphics heavy games to at least medium settings. I commend you for your choice

        • LOL, not only that but once you go ultrawide and curved, you can't go back XD

    • You're literally reading my mind. 4K@120 even would be enough, and let's be honest they 'can' but you'd need to reduce some quality settings. Next gen should be quite a jump.

  • Wow I feel so dumb paying this price last Christmas for a 3060ti..

    • +6

Why? have you used it and enjoyed the card?

If so, I don't think it matters.

Alot of people have stated at there half built ma Hines without a card.

      • +3

If you calculate the number of hours I got out of it. I got an amazing deal entertainment-wise.

Already sold the card off with my gaming rig and downgraded it to a cheap Thinkpad till the 4000 series comes out.

There aren't many good "online" games right now that I can justify paying over a grand to play.

  • I am sorry, but that’s still way overpriced for a 3080 10 GB. This card should be below $1000 by now.

  • +2

Hi all, this seems to the cheapest RTX 3080 available in Aus atm. There are others priced slightly higher at $1299 (MSI VENTUS 3X PLUS; Gigabyte EAGLE OC Rev 2.0). I'm putting together my first build - is this ASUS GeForce RTX 3080 TUF better than the slightly more expensive alternatives? Use case is 3D rendering. Cheers

  • this or 6900xt?

    • I have this TUF 3080, but if I am to buy a GPU now I would go for that cheaper 6900XT.

      • No one can tell you, esp as you've offered no context to your usage.
I went 6800xt, price was right and I'm not a fan of DLSS.
RT is nice, but really in jts infancy.

    • Depends. What res? Do you need DLSS? Raytracing?

Do you use any of those work apps that have good GPU acceleration for NVIDIA but not AMD?

  • TUF LUV

  • Damn it, I paid 1500 for this a month ago.

    Great card though

    • Thats the game, esp in these times of new gen coming and the shortages that were

      • Ah well. I'm enjoying it. Wasn't going to wait forever.

This is a great price for a great card though.

  • +1

I paid $1399 delivered about a month and a half ago for the same card but I have no regrets.

At the time I only found one place that had them in stock and had no idea when they'd be back in stock.

Plus the price could of gone up again. As has happened before.

    LHR Yuck

    • Do you know of any shops still selling FHR version?

      • I don't believe so - just the 3090 now.

        • +2

Then why are you saying yuck if there isn't any FHR stock available now?
Anyone still actively investing in more GPUs for mining at the moment?

          • @edfoo: Because you're investing in a limited and IMO unnecessary piece of hardware. It has to have freedom. Freedom, freedom, freedom forever!

            • +1

@LuCJ: Not everyone care about crypto mining. Some of us just want GPU for gaming. And since there are no more FHR 3080 available for sale, stop complaining.

              • -2

@edfoo: Well while you're playing computer beep-boop some of us are making tremendous profits.

                • +1

@LuCJ: Well good for you to use GPU for different purpose. Like I’ve said since there are no FHR version available now, no point complaining.

                  • @edfoo: There's every point in complaining as consumers. Hopefully the companies listen to the real fans and get things moving again.

                    • +1

@LuCJ: The real deal is to manufacture more GPUs for gamers, rather than selling them at high prices to miners, wrecking the GPU market in the past 18 months.

                      • -1

@edfoo: The tremendous profits from the GPU miners drive the prices up and the profits for research. The only ones howling at the people at the bottom complaining they can't play a 5-year-old steam game because the most industrious chaps have the first mover advantage in the crypto world. I see it all as a positive.

                        • +1

@LuCJ: BS from a typical crypto miner.

                          • -1

@edfoo: Some choose to be productive innovators while others decide to sit indolently, whiling away the hours watching the opportunity pass them by. I'm proud of why my brothers and I have accomplished in the crypto world. One day a righteous rain will wash the world of the corruption in banking and then Government and we will be hailed as heroes.

                            • +1

@LuCJ: Another BS from a typical crypto miner.

                • +1

@LuCJ: No you're not. You've been sucked into a ponzi scheme.

  • I think I will HODL no more and retire the EVGA 970. Thanks for the deal!
