@netsurfer: Your guess was wrong and I'm not going to be gaslit with strawman arguments. Add me to your blocked user list and move on. I'll do the same.

            • @[Deactivated]: I don't have notification turned on so there is no need for me to block you. All replies to my comments do not notify me.

We don't go to MSY for the service (nor their warranty service). I know. However, that's the gamble. When things gone pear shaped, we all regret buying from MSY (because of the additional legwork).

          • @netsurfer:

Apple refused to do the repair for me for free quoting the warranty period has elapsed (even that i-device was hardly used)

What has your device usage got anything to do with your device failure occurring outside of statutory warranty?

Apple isn't legally obligated to fix anything free of cost outside of statutory warranty, nor any other manufacturer or merchant.

        • Cool

Some of the reasons leading to MSY's decline:

      • General decline of PC market (Intel hasn't done much in the past few years) and computers being fast enough.
      • Tablets and smartphones (those are the shinny new toys). Less need for people to use PC (when did you last show off your PC / laptop?).
      • Direct sale discounts from Dell, Lenovo, HP, Microsoft.
      • School laptops.
      • feeBay funding half of the discounts on those 20% off deals.
      • Amazon USA (before the Harvey GST) was a viable option for us to get cheap parts.
      • Amazon AUS with stronger bargaining power and the Prime membership.
      • Some of their newer competitors import overseas parts (instead from the official Aus distributors).
      • Weak AUD.

MSY rely on buying a lot of items to get a discounted price from the distributor(s). In the past, at times, MSY was willing to sell items close to cost price and rely on rebates from manufacturers. It's an uphill battle for MSY.

I don't know why you feel the need to discuss this ( OPINION ) in detail in a MSY lead thread.

        • Why not?

  • +2

Far out I just bought 5900x for $570 from MSY last week.

  • why your website is extremely slow. Every page loads forever

    • +2

It's not designed to handle traffic from OZBers.

MSY needs to pay Jeff Bezos more. Looks like MSY is using AWS.

  • +1

Ok here’s the question for all upvoters includes me
    Where’s the deal ?

    • it starts 13/6/2022 00:00 midnight later.

    • +1

Simple, nowadays, what would you buy from MSY? Have a look at those and see if 10% off is sufficient. For me:

      • Cheap HDMI 2.1 cables ($10), LAN cables (CAT 6 or better), Spare 12V power supply (for 3.2 inch enclosures).
      • SD or microSD cards or USB flash drives (when I really need some urgently and cannot wait for the next OZB deal).
      • Desperate to complete a PC build due to buying some parts from other OZB deals and are one or two computer parts short.
      • Need an el cheapo monitor.
      • Unusual items where MSY stock is the cheapest. MSY used to stock a special blu-ray drive that can rip UHD blu-rays (I think it was $70). But, that's if you have UHD blu-rays discs. I know, even the MSY staff was shocked I bought the BD-ROM drive (so unpopular, even a couple of years ago).

Some MSY stores used to have some pretty good clearance items from time to time, but MSY has not been competitive since the failed takeover.

Check this item out. Price is pretty competitive.
        Just have to look around.

This price is not even taking into the 10% discount on top we're giving later.

        • website cant even load at the moment though. I hope it will be running smoothly tomorrow.

          • @interestedhumano: MSI Nvidia GeForce (RTX 3080 VENTUS 3X PLUS 10G OC LHR) 10GB RTX 3080 VENTUS 3X PLUS OC LHR
            $1,349

  • Worth getting a 12700K now or worth waiting for the 13th gen? Upgrading from a 6700K

    • +3

Wait, unless there is a super duper bargain. Because:

      • AMD's Zen 4 is coming up. Might as well see what it is like and whether the chipset leak is correct (PCIe gen 5 x16 + PCIe gen 5 x4, with the latter designed for NVMe gen 5 SSD, and apparently the chipset lanes could be PCIe gen 5). If so, I expect Intel to respond on its 13th gen chipset.
      • PCIe gen 5 advantage has not been realised (no PCIe gen 5 NVMe SSDs yet). DDR5 is also in its early stage. USB 3.2 gen 2x2 enclosures are not cheap enough. Thunderbolt 4, is honestly just a Thunderbolt 3 with all optional features implemented so far.
      • What exactly Apple is cooking (with M2) and what Microsoft is doing with ARM based apps.
      • The leak on next gen GPU will see nVidia going back to TSMC and having significant jump (but the latest news is nVidia trying to clear stock - honestly, kinda feel weird, coz. if nVidia really wants to clear stock, we should be getting fire sale).

However, if you need a new PC now (i.e. end of financial year), then it's fine to get it now.

      • Amazing reply, will be waiting then! Sounds like lots to look forward to this year.

      • If any of the Macs had DIY upgradeable RAM and SSD I would have completely abandoned the x86/64 architecture. But I'm not ready for a completely unupgradeable and irrepairable computer.

    • I’d upgrade if you are using most of your existing parts. Even a new i3 will be supposedly better than your 6700k

  • +3

MSY used to be the cheapest because they had the inside deal with Synnex

In the famous words of a competitor "those guys are selling for retail at prices I can't get wholesale"

After a few run ins with the ACCC and management changes, you have the current version of MSY

Straight 10% off is a good deal but the fact that they are the only national PC store doing this kind of deal for EOFY says everything

    • +1

additional 10% off on top of already running deals. It's more than 10%.

      • Please suggest some double stacked deals worthy of our attention then

Taking the Ryzen 5600 as an example because that is low margin, widely distributed and price competitive across the country

CCPU Sydney is selling it for $270 which is the barebones no service price the old MSY would sell at

The new MSY currently sells it for $285 so with 10% off, it is $256.50 - a 5% saving compared to CCPU which is basically FA

"We" know this sale is designed by you to bring forward sales to hit some EOFY targets so it is a deal, but a weak one

        • We have other products which are best priced in the market.

          • @NSCx: Not those specific models of high end graphics cards.

      • -1

Agreed with highmargin. You need to provide better deals. Nothing stands out. MSY really needs to get some love back from big brother Synnex. There is an item I was somewhat interested, after the 10% discount, your price is still worse than EB. Obviously, worse than Officeworks.

Are you willing to at least price match Officeworks? I cannot believe I am asking MSY to price match Officeworks.

        • Hi Netsurfer, please let us know which item is that and we will look into it.

          • @NSCx: I picked a hard one for you to price match.

logitech g203: Amazon: $29 (Blue), Bing Lee: $19 (White). However, you are selling the black one, so Officeworks' $45. Just an FYI, I asked OfficeWorks to price match Bing Lee on the white one today so I won't be buying from MSY even if you matched $45. $19 for the black one from MSY is unrealistic / wishful thinking.

Some of the mainstream SSDs, your prices are not as good as your competitors. Sure, after the 10% off, they are better, but then that feels like 5% off only. Without active Samsung SSD promotion, it is a hard sell. The ones where you are the same price as your competitor before 10%, those ones are cheaper grade ones, which really need to be at bargain price for me to consider.

            • -2

@netsurfer: You went full geek with the essay, never go full geek.

            • +3

@netsurfer: Dude when shopping express have their 10 percent off sitewide, it's literally the same thing. You think a store the scale of MSY is gonna give a rat's behind to appease someone that wants to spend $45? A bit of a reality check for you, they don't care.

Just like everyone does on this site, compare the prices to other stores and see if it's cheaper and entices you to buy. "You need to provide better deals", the absolute entitlement of that statement jeez.

  • Any HDMI 2.1 monitors?

  • Looks like they removed the option of cash payment on pickup for this promotion at my local MSY.

    • Not seeing any option to pay on pickup for me either, so you're getting hit with an extra 1% CC/PayPal transaction fee.

That makes the net actual discount = 9%

      • 9.1% net
10% discount then adding 1% results in a 9.1% net discount
        Sorry I had to

    • I try to settle with paypal but ending up payment is rejected by paypal due to potential risk.

  • Thank you! I have been wanting to get another curve monitor. Perfect timing

  • wish their wd red 10tbs were cheaper, could do with a good price so I can price match with 28deg ;(
$399 is a bit of a rip as a starting price

  • +9

I think a lot of these comments are unfair towards MSY. Guys it's a good deal at 10 percent off. MSY is not a bad company, they operate on small margins so when it comes to returns they are just more picky and need to make sure your product really is faulty. I don't think they are dishonest.

  • Compare to other PC shop, Most of product at Msy is overpriced event after 10% off.

  • +1

I'm in the market for a new psu. My HX850 has served me well for the past 12 years, including several upgrades along the way, but I feel it might be time to get a new one for the next rebuild. MSY's 10% doesn't really bring the hx750 price down much, tho….pity.

    • +2

Wait a month or two for a new PSU. The new ATX 3.0 standard and 16 pin connectors will be a huge bonus for powering next gen graphics cards.

  • is this NSW and VIC only because its not the queens birthday in Queensland.

    • Extra 10% off Sitewide @ MSY

  • Any portable hdd with usb c? Not ssd, unless it's priced like a hdd.

  • Website results sort function doesn't work properly. I.e; sorting by price does not actually order the items by price. I have no idea how the sort function is done, but it doesn't sort by either current, nor regular (ignoring discount) prices.

  • Do you know how long they will dispatch if you order online? I've only ever picked up at Auburn but chose delivery because it was free. My order is at "Processing in progress"
