  • Any reviews from the ozb community? Would these be good for basic browsing and using office?

    • +6

Fine. The only concern is the screen resolution is a bit low.
If that isn’t a factor you look for when buying a laptop, you might not notice it with these quite small, portable laptops.

      • Did you buy one from the last deal?

        • +3

I did. It’s pretty snappy laptop. I love it. I frequently touch the screen assuming it is touch enabled though it’s not.

          • +1

@search: So what are your thoughts on the screen & how's the battery life?

Hopefully they won't send out more laptops in the same condition that this member received.

            • +3

@WatchNerd: Screen is fine from unless you look at it from 10cm, then you see the pixels. Battery lasts at least 6 hours. And mine came with a LTE modem. My only gripe is no backlit keyboard.

              • @Sharp: 6 hour battery life? Damn, not bad for a sub-$400 laptop.

              • @Sharp: Second that on battery life. Also, I could charge via USB C port for which I have my work charger and dock with dual monitors.

            • +1

@WatchNerd: My screen was ok. I’m not a gamer nor watch any videos on laptop. Screen is not bad at all.

    • Got one last deal, runs well and pretty good nick.
The windows went straight to desktop which was a touch concerning, but a restore of windows did the trick and no issues with licence.

    • We have latitudes or HP elites at work. This gen latitude we had a few issues, particularly wifi but you never know if that is the fault of the dell or the profile that the. IT dept impose on them.
The crew prefer ordering the HPs because of this history, which shows how bad it was at the time.

If these have been tested probably OK

  • +2

Looked amazing until I saw the resolution

    • +1

Can you output 4k60 to an external monitor or TV though?

      • +4

Probably can, but then the fans would have a competition with each other

  • +3

16gigs of ram & a SSD. I'd reckon that'd be more than capable.
But I'm more a desktop person, can't speak for laptops

  • If it was compatible with the old E dock, I would have got one.

    • Just get a refurbished wd15.

  • +2

This would be great value for anyone who works at a desk, but needs to be portable sometimes. Just add external monitor for FHD or whatever.
Specs say "DisplayPort over USB Type-C (optional" - is that included? Otherwise FHD max over hdmi 1.4.

    • +2

The one I bought from the previous deal has thunderbolt and plays nicely with my WD19TB dock.

Overall, I'm really happy with it. The screen is ordinary, and it is a bit chonky but excellent value and nice to type on.

I bought it for use in rough-ish environments - used it last Friday to do a bunch of datalogging in a seafood factory and it was great.

      • Your dock would have costed more than the laptop.

        • My main laptop is an XPS13 2-in-1 so I already had the dock!

Handy to be able to use one dock for either, or my wife's.

        • Just get a refur wd15, op might have some.

  • +3

Sounds great for child first laptop for home or school.

    • +12

      … or seafood factory.

      • what!!!!

        • Yeah how else do they send their last words to those friends are still in the ocean.

    • +1

Unless the child needs touch screen.

      • +5

        No child needs that

  • Hi Rep, is the screen at least IPS?

    • +4

They're TN - It looks like it might be possible to retrofit a 1080p IPS panel from Aliexpress but I haven't pulled the old panel out of mine yet to confirm.

  • Absolute bargain but a bit too a small form factor for my likings unfortunately

  • +1

Bought a 7290 on Friday with 8Gb RAM for $358.20 - handing in OzB licence for my impatience (rep did clearly say another deal coming :) )

  • Hi @Calmago, Is it possible to get this with Win 10 Pro rather than Win 11?

    • +1

You could install Win10 Pro when you receive it and it should activate fine.

  • Any comments on battery life? Wondering it it would get through a full school day without issue. Looks potentially like a good school laptop since it seems to be a bit of a tank and compact. But no mention of battery specs.

    Thanks.

  • great laptop, business grade just a pity on the display. not great for gaming

    • +2

      Thanks for letting us know

    • Why does that not appear in an ebay sold items search?

      • idk ask ebay? I can give you the item number if you want

        • +1

Was it from a private seller or a store?

    • Had a look at a lot of thinkpads when I bought my 7290 on Friday 10th - didn't see this one and if I did trigger would have been pulled. Thanks for posting after the fact…

    • +1

Yes, we get it. You got a great deal! No need to post on every laptop post.

      • +1

Must have thought it was Ozbraggin, not Ozbargain.

      • +1

        Mentions it on every post.

  • +1

Bought from the this deal last time. Snappy, great experience, mine had thunderbolt too. I use it attached to an external monitor 99% of the time, so I can live with the resolution

    • -2

then what is the point of getting a laptop?

      • +1

desk space constraints , how much for desktop at such size with similar spec/performance

      • +1

Would you prefer running around with a desktop the remaining 1% of the time?

  • Put in the code it said 375.20 instead of 365.82?

  • +1

Thanks! Bought to upgrade my car pc :D

    • You got it for your car? How does that work, do you have a laptop mount in the car? What do you do on it

      • +1

Not exactly. Currently i run a NUC in the center console linked to a screen I've mounted in my dash that displays ecu information, data logging, live tuning etc. nuc has been great, but I want to try something with a battery again

  • +2

At this price anybody considering buying an Intel NUC could consider one of these instead IMHO. Just leave the lid shut and run it like you would a NUC.

    • A NUC is still more compact, it's also not going to explode if it lives its life powered 24/7

    • I got sick of laptops as HTPCs. Too much pain with opening the lid to power on, needing to fiddle to make sure the external monitor is the primary, for this one in particular you also can't mirror because the internal screen is 768p.

      • Some laptops have a setting in the BIOS to turn on as soon as external power is applied… My Dell has…

        • Sure, but still a bit annoying to have to pull and replug the barrel jack to turn it back on.

          • @coxymla: I use the function all the time as my laptop is mostly connected to a dock.
Turn on the power at the wall, happy days…

            • @vinnycol: Hah, my house doesn't have power switches. :)

  • ok does this come with thunderbolt 3 or is it just usb c?

  • Thinking about Lan games. Just wondering if Windows XP could be installed on this laptop? Thanks

    • Doubtful, but what do you want to run on XP that doesn't run on 10?

      • Thank you for reply. Reading the cpu model number I mistook it for a much older cpu. This cpu was released in 2017. XP is not gonna run. My main problem is that although win 10 can run old games fine, Lan ports are not being recognized properly. So Lan games from XP era with windows 10 doesn’t work. I will wait for a much older model to show up I guess.

  • -2

This resolution is no good for anything but basic web browsing.

    • +3

Lol what says who? Have you even used a device with a resolution like this? Keep in mind it's a 12" screen, it'll be perfectly fine.

      • Yes. I purchased similar to this 2 weeks ago. The resolution is the problem not the size.

        • Take your glasses off and all resolution is suddenly not a problem!!

  • Do these units come with a WWAN / LTE module too, like the last deal?

    • Yes, pretty sure all are LTE. Just leave a note at check out and we will double-check for your order

      • Thanks, got an order in.

      • Does this mean I can insert a SIM card to get mobile data when wi-fi isn't available?

        • correct :)

      • i know these are sold out but do you get any with a FHD screens? any a similar price point?

  • Does anyone know if this can charge over type C? It says it has thunderbolt, but thunderbolt doesn't mean it has pd charging right?

    • +1

It can with the right charger (probably needs 20V PD) - I've tried:

      Dell WD19TB Dock (Charges)
Dell 45W type C charger from my XPS13 (Charges - but says 'slow charger'?)
Xiaomi Power Bank 3 Pro (Charges)
      Asus ROG 30W Charger (Doesn't charge - 11V 3A only)

    • Yes from the last stock,

  • Does it have usb3.0? Also it has M2 slot? How many memory slot they have?

    • +1

      USB 3 - Yes (& Thunderbolt)
      M.2 - Yes
      Memory Slots - 1

      https://imgur.com/a/0lWaOhP

      • Awesome … Thanks for the photo. Did you bought one from them?

        • Yes, it's from the previous deal a couple of weeks ago.

  • -1

the 720p would make this laptop essentially useless without a external monitor.

    • +1

I'm confused, this was your previous comment to someone who was doing exactly this -

then what is the point of getting a laptop?

      • +2

This person just moans, look at their comment history, filled with constant negative comments.

        • +1

If you were a scooter in Canberra, you would probably moan too

  • How often do these come up? I need something to use as a car diagnostic computer, something I dont have to fuss about breakage.

    • Never. The only way that we can make these work is with the eBay discount codes

      • Not specifically these models but refurbed older work machines? I am a bit partial to Thinkpads due to their rock solid performance in the past, do you get any T series popping up at all? Appreciate the response either way, if the answer is a no I will likely grab one of these fellas by the end of the week(if car parts dont trump the list of thing to grab!)

  • +1

You buy it or you don't. Pay 3x as much and you'll get all the resolution you want…
    Who cares…

  • +1

Hi @Calmago, Can the ssd easily upgradable? Does it come with backlit keys?

    • yes, SSD is upgradable. I don't think they have backlit keys.

  • Could I charge this using USB-C with something like this? https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-26800-mah-powerbank-118w-…

    • +1

Should work although Dells can be finicky.

  • +1

I hope no one ends up with the bested up and bruised unit I returned back ;/

  • Which of these models have a backlit keyboard?

  • These look like good candidates to convert to a Chromebook by installing ChromeOS Flex - especially for kids, and especially if OP will discount further without Windows installed.

    • An 8th gen CPU and NVMe SSD is going to be fine to run Windows acceptably. The hardware will have a Windows license tied to it already.

    • Depends on what you want to do with it, but I don't see the appeal when this will have no issues with Windows. Flex doesn't allow you to install Android apps, if anyone was hoping for that.

  • Looks like the 256Gb one is out of stock already. Wanted 1.
