Sleep Tracker June 2022

Hi All,

I’m looking for a smart sleeping device to track my sleep. I hate wearing a watch when I sleep. Withings smart analyser has some mixed reviews if it worked then it would be the best deal. I don’t mind a small wrist band to try if it can measure my O2 level when I sleep and detect when I’m sleeping.

I have developed a bad habit of sleeping on and off few times during the day and can’t sleep much at night. My work life messed me up for years (thanks IT).
I’m trying to fix my habit and track how many times I fall asleep (deep sleep), snore and wake up in the middle of my sleep. My wife says I started snoring now specially during when I take power nap during the day.

Talk to your doctor about a sleep study-cpap machine.

  • Thanks a lot. Apart from that is there any smart device out there that’s good? Apple to Samsung they give us this sleep tracker marketing crap. It’s all BS or it works?

  • Nest Hub Gen 2 has sleep tracking (free for now). Tracks snoring too.

Haven't tried it though as doesn't work with GSuite accounts.

    • Note that it does not sync with the Health app for Apple users

        Seems like an Apple problem

    • doesn't work with GSuite accounts.

      Does this help https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/7571892?hl=en&c… ?

I know there are still somethings that don't work (I don't think Google cares)

    • Uses a radar to track movement (like the rise and fall of your chest) to track sleep. Comparing to a smartwatch its probably a bit more sensitive - don't pay over $100 it though, it's regularly cheaper than that.

  • Snorelap or shuteye app

Go to a GP, tell them this and get a sleep study done.
And see a dentist, tell them this too and they'll check if you grind your teeth. You might need a stint.

Apps and watches are just junk, it'll likely be covered fully under medicare.
Treating Sleep Apnea will massive improve your life.

Hey I fully recognise and appreciate the desire to fix this with a technology solution but as others have said the marketing may not match the reality. Unfortunately it may require a significant effort. Probably a good idea to see medical professionals.

Not having a go, but if you are overweight and/or inactive probably the number 1 thing they will say is to get some regular exercise. This applies to most of us. I think my sleep has improved a lot since I started running 3 times a week for 30 minutes (just mentioning this to show how little exercise is required to make a difference). Also I stopped drinking before bed which my wife says has eliminated snoring.

  • I think the best solution is the Wellue O2 ring which is apparently FDA approved and provides continuous monitoring of your blood oxygen levels and will allow you to download that data. The Apple Watch oxygen monitoring is only periodic and will miss crucial periods, not sure about the Samsung watch.

However, I highly recommend you go see a sleep specialist and get a sleep study done.
