Disney+ Launched in Turkey

Disney+ has launched in Turkey for TL350 (~au30)/yr

I got it working using a convoluted method. (Note, local Turkish phone# isn't require)
You need and Android Phone AND a PC running BlueStacks.

  • Android device
  • weVPN android app (free 7 day trial, via IAP, don't forget to cancel, which you can do immediately). I have had some luck with Nord, so it worth a try. Ivacy doesn't & PIA didn't for me either.
  • Windows with BlueStacks 5 (Android emulator)
  • Credit card (used 28 degrees)

Here's what I did
You need to follow all the steps for both Android Device and PC. Just using an Android device won't work.

Android Device

  • created a new Google account, set the location to Turkey (used a fake address & phone# of some random hotel in Istanbul)
  • Added my 28 degrees to my Google account, using the fake Turkish address, but my real Oz mobile. Note I had several checks (SMS's from both Google & 28 degrees).

Then

PC

  • Installed BlueStacks 5.0
  • Setup using the new Turkish Google account
  • Installed WeVPN (the 7 day free trial is via IAP, so you need to cancel the subscription, which you can do immediately otherwise you'll be charged $us75). Or Try another VPN. To test it out, open the Chrome app and goto disneyplus.com if it redirects you to www.disneyplus.com/en-tr (you can see the Turkish pricing), then you're in luck. If it goes to Oz/etc or you get a blank page, you're VPN isn't working.
  • Launch WeVPN and connect to Turkey
  • Install Disney Plus from the Play Store
  • Create a Disney account. I'm not sure if you can use your old account or not I created a new one to be safe.
  • You should get an offer (possibly in Turkish) for 349.90TR,. click in this to subscribe (via Google Pay/Playstore). If you get an offer for $119.95, then it (your VPN) has failed. You need to uninstall Disney+ and try again with another VPN.
  • Setup one profile.

Then you should get emails from Google, Disney, etc then I was good to go on my TV app.
No VPN required after activation. Full local content available.(i.e. Oz content if it thinks you're in Oz, US content if it thinks you're in the US).

Good luck!

Seems like there's going to be a random two-storey apartment in Turkey with 10,000 OzBargainers living at the same address. Nice find, OP!

    • +4

We all live in the Grand Bazaar, plenty of room.

    • I doubt there would be thousands of people doing this. Unlikely to be even have a hundred people who would bother with paying through a VPN. It's too complicated for most.

Even speaking for myself, as someone that is tech savvy having worked as a server admin, can't really be bothered with doing the VPN method when I can just join someone else's family plan for $30/year. So much easier.

  • You only need a VPN just for activation, right?
    (Just like Turkish Netflix)

    • +2

Yep, once activated, just use in Oz. With Full Oz content.

    • +2

Managed to subscribe using an existing account without vpn and bluestacks

      Steps I followed:

      1. Changed the address in an existing google account's payment profile on PC (deleted the one with old address).
      2. Sign in to that account on your phone and clear play store's data.
      3. Open play store using that account and try installing Disney+ (might ask you to add a card to your account, add it there or add later when you are about to pay for the subscription). You can check if it worked by going to the top paid apps section and see if the currency is in TRY.
      4. After installing Disney+ I tried using a VPN but was stuck on the loading screen so I turned the VPN off and the prices were displayed in TRY.
      5. Subscribe to the annual plan and done.

Why can't you setup Turkish google account and install WeVPN on your Android phone?

    • +1

      Good question… seems easier?

      • Confirmed it works, see my other post. I used Nord. All done on the phone.

  • Wevpn and ivacy did not work for me on Disney so what else is successful, I had no problem doing the Netflix subscription.

    • Hmm I just tried again via BlueStacks and I get the Turkish Lira option.

It also offered it to me when logging in with an old account. So maybe that will work.

      • I've followed the Android tut line by line, I'll update when I find a solution.

        • I noticed NordVPN just worked for me, so maybe they've banned some servers, but not all of them.

Maybe close the VPN, force stop the Disney+ app, clear data/cache, reconnect the VPN and see.

How far did you get? did it just stay on the startup screen? or do you get subs offered in $au?

          • @M00Cow: It's the app, it either hangs or shows Australian prices, using Turkish Google account download Disney from play store whilst logged in with Turkish account whilst VPN is running.

            • +1

@stemcell: Hmm one method to test if your VPN is working is goto

              disneyplus.com

Then see if it redirects to you
              https://www.disneyplus.com/en-au
              Then your VPN isn't working
              Or the correct Turkish one
              https://www.disneyplus.com/en-tr

The other thing to check that you're in the Turkey Playstore
              * Open Playstore
              * Tap/click on your profile (top right)
              * Scroll down & tap Settings
              * Tap/click General
              * Tap/Click Account and device preferences
              * Under Country and profiles, it says Turkey (and a green tick to the right)

Apart from that, I can't really help, sorry

              • +1

@M00Cow: I gave up after trying another phone and tried the bluestack way and it worked thanks for all the help.

                • @stemcell: Cheers, I've just updated the description and made it clearer that you need to follow both Android Phone AND PC(BlueStacks). Sorry about that.

I used an Android mobile to create the account as I've previously had issues with creating new Google accounts on BlueStacks & adding payments.

I don't have an Android tablet anymore, but it's possible that the Disney app detects your location via the mobile phone network. I did try spoofing my location, but it still fell over.

  • Looks like Tunisia is even cheaper?
Any reason to stick with Turkey?

    • None what so ever. I just chose Turkey because a lot of the other countries needed a local phone#. How much is Tunisia?

      • +1

        Circa AUD16 for the year.
Didn't turkey require a phone number as well?

        • +1

Not via Android App & Google Pay.

What VPN provider did you use for a VPN to Tunisia.

          • @M00Cow: None of the VPNs I have, Nord, Tunnelbear and Windscribe has Tunisia :-(

  • Disney+ launched in Turkey

Will they allow Armenians to join?

    • Only if you say you're from Ani or get express permission from Vlad or Recep

      • thanks

  • do you really need a new google account? how do you get past the phone verification?

    • you don't need phone verification if you create new account in google app on your phone (because it's already registered a phone number)

  • +1

This worked for me but I had to use a combination of Bluestacks and my existing NordVPN sub to get it to work. It wouldn't work from my existing phone with a new Google account.

    1) Create new Google account via Android phone
    2) Add a payment method to your new Google Account, in my case a credit card (used ANZ credit card), ensure that you use a turkish address when inputting the card details
    3) On PC, download and install Bluestacks 5
    4) Install NordVPN, sign in and connect to Turkey
    5) For good measure, Force Stop Google play in the Settings of Bluestacks, clear data
    6) Open Google Play Store and install Disney
    7) Sign up now for 350 Turkish dollary doos, proceed with payment and it should all go through smoothly

P.S I didnt need to link this new account to any phone number for it to work.

    • how long does it take for Disney+ app to launch on Bluestacks 5?

      • Not long at all, though it took a while to download over NordVPN.

It should be a few seconds to open it.

        • mine doesn't launch at all.

so I tried opening the browser and it detects the location and was able to enter cc payment. however my card is currently blocked by Latitude. so the payment failed.

by going through these myself, I don't think we need a google account to sign up at all. and there is no need to use the mobile app on the emulator.

          • @PissLUR: update:

yes looks like the steps are necessary and working. yay. thanks @M00Cow and @Lukey90

          • @PissLUR: Lol.. same. A few days later Latitude sent an SMS saying my card was on hold, referring to 0.17c from Google. I replied confirming the transaction (this relased the hold). Then tried later and payment went through.

  • +1

Followed all the steps but in BlueStacks the Disney app is offering prices in UK pounds.

I know the VPN is working because if I go to the disney plus site in my browser I get offered the sub in TRY.

    Any ideas?

    • I had the same problem, I followed Lukey90's instructions above and "5) For good measure, Force Stop Google play in the Settings of Bluestacks, clear data" fixed it for me.

  • +2

Okay so you don't need this BlueStacks nonsense at all - it didn't work for me anyway. It is much simpler.

Revised steps (all done on phone):

    1. Create a new Google/Gmail account.
    2. Sign in to Google Play with the new account and add a payment method, setting the location to Turkey.
    3. Run a VPN (Nord in my case), set to Turkey.
    4. Deleted existing Disney+ app (if you have it).
    5. Download Disney+ app.
    6. Open and sign up. It will use the Payment method above.

It works fine without a VPN from then.

    • Tried this with Up bank, and at step 2 it said card declined at the issuer level

      • You'd need to contact up to let the transaction go through.

      • That's down to your bank. I used 28Degrees. I got a text message asking me to confirm from them but after that it was all good.

    • So you don't need to set the Google account to Turkey just the payment?
If that's the case can we just add a new payment type to our current Google account and set that to Turkey?

      • +1

No.I believe you need to set your Google a/C to Turkey, which determines your PlayStore region, which then gives you access to that region's apps. I've got the same CC on Google a/c's setup separately in AU,UK,UK,Turkey, Brazil, Argentina.

    • Oh good! They've made it simpler..

      When I tried that,
      1) The Play Store didn't have the Disney app.. but that was yesterday (yet using BlueStacks it did)..
      2) when I sideloaded it/installed via another Google a/C, I got the $au offer, (when it did actually get passed the splash screen) even after switching back to the Turkey Google A/C and using various VPN's.

Maybe a few others can verify this method works?

      • They didn't do anything. LOL

Someone asked if could be done with BlueStacks and I tested and confirmed it. Maybe you can update the original post with my procedure and steps?

        • They didn't do anything. LOL

No we did.your steps & they didn't work yesterday.
There was a group of us from different countries that tried lots of methods to get it working, no.one yesterday (or overnight) got it working via a phone (,we tried lots of variations)..you can see the same problems further up the comments.

But tomorrow I'll have a look and add it in if I can replicate. Cheers for your work, much appreciated.

    • Gadgetguy your instructions do not work.

      • The upvotes for my post on the other thread would suggest otherwise. I am sitting here watching Disney+ on my new account paid for in TRY. If it doesn't work don't for you, you are doing something wrong. You have provided no details.

        Things to check:

Did you add a payment method in a new Google account with your address set to Turkey?

Did you check in the Play store that your country was set to Turkey under settings?

Did you delete any existing Disney+ app on your phone?

Did you check via your browser that your VPN was working and set to Turkey?

I go to https://www.dnsleaktest.com/ to check in my browser.

Are you trying to sign up via the Disney+ app and NOT via a browser?

        • Hi gadgetguy maybe you can help troubleshoot my problem.

Once I create a new gmail account, I try to add payment method using a VISA ANZ card with a turkey postcode, however it doesn't go through and says they are unable to use this method of payment.

Does it matter if I have other google accounts that are Australian?

Also how would I set my Google play country to Turkey?

          • @ramona: When you add your card as a payment method, Google is trying to verify the card by doing a small authorization on it. Unfortunately it is your bank/card not allowing this authorization. Possibly overzealous fraud detection.

You need to use a card that will allow it or ask your bank to allow the transaction.

        • I checked all of these and still it showed the AU prices to me. Maybe they did some random check of the actual location of the device (although the app didn’t ask for location permission) or something. I’m going to try on PC then.

        • +1

The upvotes for my post on the other thread would suggest otherwise.

Upvotes doesn't mean it worked. And there's no one else who confirmed it worked via your method. But there are plenty who commented it doesn't work.

    • Although I had the error google pay is not accepted in your country.
If you get that error, from a Windows PC visit; https://pay.google.com/
Removed and Re-Added the same card. (TIP: Need to add a complete Turkey Billing address), if you do this correctly the address will appear in the address tab.
Google put a small amount on your card, this can sometimes cause a temporary block. So you may need to perform the actual payment later.
? For me adding payment via Google Play, kept saving an incomplete address, leading to the not accepted in your country error.

    • This worked for me if anyone wants to avoid the extra steps. However don't forget to clear your play store cache.

  • -1

    Turkiye*

  • MooCow as an extra can you add in what Turkish buttons (translation) to click within the Disney app after completing sign up because when I got it working I had to find the option to get everything back into English and then to turn off the Turkish audio dubbing. Otherwise everything works as it should.

  • Is there a cheap Stan subscription, that can utilise my existing Stan account for current lists and episodes etc

    • +1

I believe Stan is Oz only, so not as far as I'm aware.

  • 🦃 have +70.0% inflation.

$DIS setting up shop when people can't afford food shows how desperate they've become for new users.

    • +1

70% is across all areas, streaming services haven't been going up 70%. Sure they raised Netflix prices, but I'm still paying a tiny amount compared to AU pricing.

  • I would suggest using flyvpn as they are offering free Turkey IP address, you only need to register an account (No need to put your credit card details down at all) then you can enjoy 3 times per day of free turkey IP connection. Please be aware this one looks like a Chinese vpn provider so I suggest you should only use this vpn on this kind of trick only.

    • To be clear, I have used flyvpn myself and successfully register Turkish disney plus serivce.

    • You don't require VPN at all for this.

  • I have never used an Android phone so would appreciate some help.
First, what do they mean by create a new Google account and set your location to Turkey? Where are location options for creating Google accounts? If they mean in Play Store, is this why you need the VPN, to connect to Turkey before entering the settings there? I just see language options in the bottom left when creating on browser.

    • Managed to do it in the end after much struggle haha

  • I'm having trouble with purchasing, I am getting an error "Google Play purchases are not supported in your country". Anyone know why?
    https://imgur.com/a/e5C2zg1

    • If you have a VPN on, turn it off,
Then tap & hold PlayStore icon
Click in Force Stop, and also under Storage, tap Clear Cache. Open up the Playstore again make sure it's set to your Turkey a/C and then try to go in & pay.

      • No luck, same issue with bluestacks where I have only logged in with the new Turkey account.

    • I had this issue, it was a result of using BlueStacks, here is my recollection of how I fixed it.
      * Went a Windows PC not BlueStacks
      * Used Edge to visit https://pay.google.com/
      * Went into Payment Methods then Removed the Credit Card
      * Added the same card back in with Identical details (ensure Country is set to Turky, but ensure you enter a complete Turkey billing address).
      * Check the Address tab to ensure the Billing Address was picked up. Otherwise remove\add your CC again.
Then went back to BlueStacks, Killed Google Play and Disney (probably not required)
      Then it worked.
I don't believe I used VPN, sorry was a while back not 100% sure. The key for me was using the PC to remove\add the credit card. Could also have been just removing\adding the credit card.

      • Good idea, but still getting the same error unfortunately.

        • Dang, confirming that you did enter a complete address when you added the card, street, province, postcode ect.. and you actually killed\stopped the Play and Disney apps? It's not like ios, you need to go into settings, apps then force stop. Ideally also go under storage and delete saved\cached information.

          • @UltimateAI: Yep, copied the address from google maps and tried two different ones. Unless I'm not seperating the district correctly but the address was still there after checking again under pay options.
And yep force stopped and even reinstalled disney plus quite a few times.

I might try again with a different card tomorrow

            • @dlaurentiussen: it is tricky on that bit. The only issue is getting turkey payment added and accept. Took me a while to get it sorted out. Basically adding a second account on existing android is too risky, when I did that, google play keep going back to the main account. So went to google play store in secure folder (samsung), managed to add card and get disney plus in there but google payment not accept in the country.
So I got a spare phone to set up new google account, add card, open google play store, download disney, got to the final google payment screen so I thought I hit it but in a moment of OCD, I logged out of disney and used existing Disney account with free telstra 1 year service, didn't work and it screwed up the google payment for any subsequent attemp.
So third time use set up another google account, add turkey payment in play store and download disney, google payment window popped up, enter password and it's good.

So the key message is to get it done in one go and if you have any doubt get a card that hasn't been used with google payment in Australia before. I got wise account that can generate digital visa card so used that option.

Also VPN is not needed, at times disney app showing price in AUD but on that doesn't matter, the final google payment screen will show TRY. And adding Turkey payment in google play store only requires postcode, not a full address.

  • None of my payment methods want to go through, one visa and MC got decline at the last step, and the debit cards won't even let me add it to google for Turkey.. I probably am getting shut down by a postal code/country mismatch?

Any suggestions for redeem code or gift cards? Thanks
