There's limits to how paranoid you need to be.
Surprisingly, Mastercard and CommBank already have these details.

      • +1

Their personal business is between them and their friends list on Facebook.

    • +15

On the website of the company that makes your card

      • +2

Only dangerous if there is cross site scripting which for reputable banks is unlikely.

But for random online shopping websites is a different matter 🤣

    • +7

It's good to be suspicious but if you are not confident about verifying websites before entering your credit card details then perhaps you shouldn't be shopping online.

    • +13

Step 1. Put on tin-foil hat.
      Step 2. Check your eligibility.
      Step 3. Remove tin-foil hat.

    • +6

You do that every time you shop online. As a matter of fact if you had shopped online, not only do they know your card details but also where you live…

    • Swing and a miss!

  • +10

This has been around a while but good reminder. I just tried my card again and can't do it more than once. First time was probably 12 months ago.

    • Likewise. What do you do now, do you pay for Prime?

      • I already gave into Amazon before that so this just extended it… Amazon service is too good

    • Random thought, if you report a card loss and have a replacement card, will you become eligible? 😜

      • I had a new card as mine expired, didn't work

  • +1

Thanks mate. Already had prime and got $15 applied to the account.

  • +9

Tells me my card has been declined for an unknown reason. Definitely have a eligible card. Oh well…

    • +1

      Likewise

    • Same happened to me first time, worked second

    • Same happened to me, tried with my StepPay card and it worked.

      • how to find step pay expiry date

        • +1

          In the app
          Select steppay account
Click the gold card at the top
Then the show button on the right side of the card

    • Same tried both my Platinum Debit and StepPay card and received same message.

    • +1

Turn off adblock, refresh page, and try again, that worked for me.

  • Worked a treat. Got $15 bonus :)

  • +1

Thanks OP - received $15 using STEPPAY..

    • +17

you do understand this is from Mastercard, the company that issued your "Mastercard"

    • +7

It's good to be suspicious but if you are not confident about verifying websites before entering your credit card details then perhaps you shouldn't be shopping online.

      • Have you lost your marbles? Lol

    • +4

Lol it's like trying to retain your commodore details secure from Holden.

  • Anyone know if this works for Bankwest customers (owned by CommBank)?

    • +1

That's like asking why my Porsche doesn't have a feature that a VW has - just because VW own Porsche.

  • Thanks!

  • +4

Mine is just Debit Mastercard. I don’t have platinum:(

    • Doesn’t work I guess

    • Mine too. Not working

    • just open a steppay account, don't have to wait for a card to arrive

  • Cheers, worked for me and got the $15 gift card

    • What’s better the $15 gift card or 3 months free prime?

I thought 3 months free prime is better value ?

      • About equal

      • Thought you can’t really choose. It’s one way or the other depending on whether you’re currently on prime

  • +1

How do you even get a platinum debit card?

    • +1

      by invitation

    • If u have a home loan with them they send you a platinum debit

    • You can call up and ask for it. It’s not nearly as exclusive as it sounds.

    • Don't bother. Activate StepPay instead.

    • If you work or previously worked for them.

    • +2

I randomly got a letter one day attached with a platinum debit card and they were like… activate it if you want to.

    • Back in 2016 when my regular debit card was scammed, I called and requested new card. Then I got the platinum card.

    • Yeh just randomly got one as well.
It is a nice black card tho

    • macquarie issue platinum debit cards

  • Thanks mate. Harvested my $15 as an existing prime member and a StepPay card holder.

  • +4

Just helping OP by letting you guys know, the offer is valid until 31.10.23, redeemable only once.

Plenty of time to get it redeemed.

  • +5

Your card has been declined for an unknown reason. Please contact your card issuer (bank) for more information.

Oh well. This is on a platinum debit card.

    • Same. Disappointing! Also haven't used the card for 6 months. Not sure if that makes a difference

    • Same here, doesn't work on my platinum debit card, got the message "Your card has been declined for an unknown reason".

    • Make sure you have not locked online payments via app on your card

    • Same on my platinum debit

    • Hey I got the same errorinitially. Make sure your name is exactly the same as it shows on the card in the app. Mine was in all uppercase. After I did that it worked.

      • tried that. didnt work

        • Hmm weird. I also changed the pin because I hadn't used the card in ages. Maybe that did the trick.

    • Got this message as well - then got a few emails from Commbank stating a recent transaction was declined because I've locked international payments - there were two emails - one for value of $0.00 and one for $1.45??

    • +1

Hey, I had this also for many times till I used all caps and typed my name exactly as on my card, including my MR part. Also in the app I temporarily renabled the international purchases settings I'd previously blocked. (blocking them again now that I have the credit)

  • +1

I got this error: "Sorry, you have exceeded the maximum quantity of 1 allowed for this product"

    • Same

    • Got the same error with my step pay card that has not used anywhere previously.

  • Legend, thanks OP, received a $15 credit to my Mastercard

  • still on my free year from Optus subhub, anyway i can use this for the $15 gift card?

    • Yes.. im same like you.. received the credit applied to the Amazon account, which you can use to do any Amazon shopping

  • +1

used debit mastercard platinum, online payment allowed but got the below message:

    Something went wrong
Your card has been declined for an unknown reason. Please contact your card issuer (bank) for more information.

Does anyone know how to solve this?

    • Me too, exactly the same card and error message.

      • refreshed and tried few times already..but still getting same message

    • +1

Turn off adblock, refresh page, and try again, that worked for me.

  • +2

Claimed this about a year ago, won't let you claim twice just FYI.

  • Unsurprisingly it did not work on my standard Mastercard Debit card but figured I'd try it anyway.

  • +2

Got $15 with StepPay. Thanks OP

    • +1

Thanks! My CommBank MasterCard wasn't eligible. But I have StepPay and it worked.

StepPay seems to be the easiest way meet the criteria.

    • How do you get the expiry date with step pay? I have the step pay account, but could not find the actual card.

      • +1

I had the same trouble. I found the card on the mobile app under cards. No idea where to find cards on the web site.

        • Thanks!

  • +3

FYI can only be claimed once. Thought it was a new deal but it turns out it’s this same deal from nov 2021 https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/661689 so if you had already claimed that one then save yourself some time and skip.

  • Thanks! now I can link it to prime gaming and collect all the prime games in a few day muahaha

Title should be “Selected Commbank cards only”
Not all commbank cards are eligible!

    • Click Report

      • +1

I did and got message back “content modified”
Yet still not modified. Can’t report again

        • +1

“content modified” 12min ago - but no clearer
Yes, can’t report again. TWAM is only other option.

    • @moocher @hamza23 (can’t report again either)

    • Title has been updated, thx

  • I can confirm that even putting an existing card number still works
