Dell is having a serious discount for its XPS 15.

According to Dell, the original price is $1699 before it is discounted to $1002

Here are the specs:
Intel Core I7 2670M
Ram 8gb
Nividia gt 540m 2gb
HDD 1tb (upgradable to SSD for $400)

I love the JBL speakers in this computer, they are better than any laptop integrated speakers I have heard of. My experience with Dell computers is really good, with one is still going strong after 7 years.

I would personally rather go for the Dell Inspiron 15R Special Edition, mainly due to it having Ivy Core.

    http://www.dell.com/au/p/inspiron-15r-se-7520/pd.aspx?c=au&l…

    • And Inspiron 15R SE also has AMD 7730M 2GB graphics which is a newer model compared to the ageing 540M on XPS 15. Unless you plan on using Linux/Hackintosh which has better support for Nvidia drivers

  • Not bad, but I'd like (read - hope) dell give Alienware discounts in the near future.

  • Pretty good. Btw it's 2GB graphics card not 2TB!

could you imagine if it was though?

      shiii

      • Even then it wouldn't be good enough ;)

Can you imagine if it made a difference?

good but only a second generation i7

Weird, you can't get the 1080p screen upgrade anymore. Besides a nice aluminium shell, there isn't much that makes it special then.

    • Yup i'm certain that the laptop companies have all gone full retard, because you find all these laptops with medium/high end gfx cards and blu-ray players.
But none of them have bloody 1920x1080 screens!!

      Whats the bloody point!

      • Too play on external monitors…….

The average home blu ray user wouldn't gather around a 15" screen, regardless of its resolution.

    • Interesting! That might help me sell my current XPS L502x :) It has the 1080p B+GLED and luckily I bought it with 3 years warranty, so now has 2 years left. i7, 8GB ram.. hopefully get a bit back for it. 2GB GT540 too

  • Still waiting for an "Ultrabook" with a matte IPS/PLS screen, Ivy Bridge & Nvidia Kepler graphics.

An ultrabook you can actually play games on.

    • go buy a viidock the you can play on an ultrabook.

Battery life and high performance gpu…. does not fempute

      • It would have switchable graphics so battery life wouldn't decrease when not gaming. Would just need to be plugged in whilst gaming. Something I'm also holding out for, sub 2kg 14/15" gaming laptop with higher res than 1366x768

2620 is only dual core! how did no one pick this up.

Edit: Description is WRONG, its actually a i7-2670QM which is Quad

If anyone's going to buy, make sure to use http://www.powerbuy.com.au/offers/dell-xps-laptops-and-noteb…
for a 10% off and combine it with http://www.buckscoop.com.au/cashback/dell-consumer/ for a 5% cashback.

    • I tried to use the powerbuy coupon and it doesn't work!

      • Strange, it brought the xps 13 to 1080. Guess it's only for that model then.

  • Give me almost any laptop with a SSD in it over this. Their SSD upgrade is stupid.

I bought an Inspirion 15R for $600, then upgraded to SSD for $170 myself. Would boot up and run day to day tasks so much faster then this XPS

    • Why not just upgrade this one yourself as with the 15R……?

  • when I spec it up to compare with the xps17 I bought in Feb, it comes out more expensive, even with the smaller screen, lower res, less gfx memory.

As noted, the 256MB SSD for $500+ is a joke.
