+1 voteCrownanchor on 28/05/2012 - 12:55 ¶Will be interesting to see how this scoopon deal goes, the $10 one through Groupon was a total sellout, if this scoopon one sells well, we may not see a Red Bull mobile deal as the higher priced deal may set price for future deals.
+5 votesKing Tightarse on 28/05/2012 - 12:49 ¶Still a bargain @$22 but yeah bring back the $10 deal!
+2 votesmr_fjackson on 28/05/2012 - 12:58 ¶I spent $10 and got the access 7 with free sim starter kit. The service was so bad I only used it for 3 days, It's not a bargain at any price if it will not work ! (I was using a phone that did support the new 850mhz network)
try it if ya want, but don't say you have not been waned
zigpy_siva on 28/05/2012 - 13:13 ¶Data(or the other unlimited) is only within Australia(will not be available if you are traveling outside Aus).
It has to be activated within 3 months.
-1 voteWoolworths had only advertised the temporary 1/2-off promotion/superspecial earlier this year, and also during late last year, but the promo by Optus (an accepted stronger network) ran for several weeks. :We stocked up on our SIMs+vouchers, which would see us through 3rd quarter '12.
Optus is welcome to bring back such deal again, but you can read how it went here http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/64395 as you can see, was verry well received.
greenpossum on 28/05/2012 - 13:34 ¶You mean tethering? Never had problems tethering with Android with Optus or providers using Optus. They may say that in the T&C but AFAIK it's not an issue. Don't know about Vodafone.
+2 votes"You mean tethering?" - No! 'tethering' is using a USB cable.
"personal hotspot" (aka: 'personal wifi hotspot') means having your mobile handset create a wifi access point to which it can provide a wifi connection with internet access to one or more other devices (802.11 b/g/n) eg. laptop/tablet/desktop/non-hspa-mobile/iPod etc.
greenpossum on 30/05/2012 - 20:21 ¶Technically you are correct as the Android setting menu says Tethering & personal hotspot, but the question was really about whether you can do NAT on the smartphone, so I just call it all tethering, as personal hotspot is more of a mouthful.
I usually prefer to tether when I can; it charges rather than drains the battery, it just works straight off, and there is no question of anybody snooping on your session.
zigpy_siva on 28/05/2012 - 14:50 ¶it is working now, though it was not working 1 month back( or it might be only me :) )
Edit: i used Nokia and Android

+1 voteTo those apple fan boys who negged me. Let me see you use Facetime without a jailbreak on 3G without wifi.. It works perfectly and flawlessly on 3G and i use it all the time. Oh did i mention that the only reason why Flash is not supported by the iphone is due to Steve Job's ego? Another stupid "restriction" by Apple amongst many others.
bemybubble on 28/05/2012 - 13:34 ¶Last time I checked no tethering and doesn't work on all iphones. Only works on blackberry if your willing to forgive data services… :/
+1 votevpsreejith1 on 28/05/2012 - 14:01 ¶it is a good price. But let me tell you, network is crap for data usage, phone calls good. you cant think of making the android hotspot ( I use samsung galaxy note). It disconnect as often as our eyes blink !!!
+3 votesI bought the $10 deal previously for the 8 GB of data. It is very intermittent and not at all reliable. Luckily I only use it to keep my emails up to date on the laptop I have at work but it would be annoying if I was to use this as my main data service. I have struggled to download more than 2 GB of the 8 GB in almost 60 days as the service times out. I also use a Telstra SIM in the Modem when they offer the starter kit for $10 at Woolies and that is a dream to use. You get what you pay for. The calls on the other hand are good value !!
+4 votesRed Bull uses the Vodafone network.
If you're using this for calls, it's an awesome deal.
If you're thinking of using this for mobile broadband, forget it.
Vodafone say they're upgrading their networks? Even their 3G is slower than Telstra's Edge (2G) network… and that's if you can get the blody thing working.
-1 voteOptus=Strongest Network
Go with boost, means optus network, stronger receptions and no drama.
$40 unlimited per month but introductory starter pack with full month credit is $20.
http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/70422
I will make it clear for everyone !!
Wanna get this for data ? Don't even Bother as its very slow and not reliable at all.
Wanna get this for calls ? You may give it a try at your own risk. From my experience , Receiving calls in Melbourne CBD worked fine 75% of the time but Northcote,Preston, etc had been terrible for 2 weeks where I couldn't even make a single call which is clear. Now this week's been fine.
bemybubble on 28/05/2012 - 15:27 ¶They are bragging about updating their network but I really fail to see it…
Optus sent me a letter not too long ago saying they have updated their towers and I noticed a substantial difference! Had 1 Bar with very little 3G in my office to now full bars with 3G. Vodafone haven't done squat IMO
Explosions_Hurt on 29/05/2012 - 08:57 ¶Vodafone invested nearly $1 billion in new infrastructure. It's all there to see in their financial statements. It's just that these changes take time to take effect.
+6 votesTo be honest guys, I think it's still a good deal purely for the voice calls alone.
Just think, you can now call girls on any network without looking like a cheapass! They'll think you're a highroller if they see that time spent talking doesn't phase you one bit ;)

I bought the groupon deal in order to download updates for an old computer I rebuilt for a friend. Wifi is okay, but a little tricky to setup (need to setup proxy and delete your old apn). Tethering via usb worked much better. Email support did respond with a solution that worked to an issue i had in under 3 hours. Service has been upgraded in my area (mcleod) so calls and heaps of data are excellent value. Considering getting the acres 365 with spare crappy handset to avoid recharge hassle.
-1 voteCan you print the same Groupon Voucher out 10x times and use the one Voucher, multiple times at different BP's?
You collect the Recharge from a BP petrol outlet.
Since BP staff print out the Recharges from the prepaid terminal device, just like a Virgin or Telstra Recharge, there is no "code" for the staff member to enter anywhere.
So you can SCAM this quite easily, by going to different BP's…
greenpossum on 28/05/2012 - 17:37 ¶You're assuming it's a recharge voucher. I think it's more likely that you collect a SIM starter kit which is associated with your Scoopon voucher, either at the point of sale or later, online.
greenpossum on 28/05/2012 - 18:09 ¶Yeah so what? Servos do sell SIMs so they will have stock of them.

"Scoopon must be collected at the selected BP store by 4 July 2012 - go to http://mymap.co/bpau to find your nearest location and enter this location at checkout"
